Lu-Bu Heavenly Kitchen

Lu-Bu Heavenly Kitchen is the current location for the ever-popular ADAMANTIUM CHEF:: GAIA television show. In an effort to accomplish some cross-over appeal with fight fans across the multiverse, Adamantium Chef has decided to redecorate their Kitchen to resemble the famous Lu-Bu Dojo.

Terrain

General: The are inside the semi-circle of cooking conter-tops is 40' in diameter, but the overall room is 75' by 75'. The floors have been layered with tatami mats, and the walls are lined with weapon racks, punching bags, dummies, and other assorted training gear. The "north" end of the stage is on a raised dais that is 10' higher than the rest, where the judges would normally sit. This area is empty of people, but the four chairs and long-table are still present.

Weapons: Assorted kitchen gear, ranging from the mundane (chef knives) to the arcane and complex (sous vide machine). If you've seen it in Iron Chef, it's probably here. On the far walls are wushu weapons: staves, nun-chucks, tonfa, sais, and the like. There are punching bags of all shapes and sizes, a mu ren zhuang (Wing-Chun training dummy made of wood), and many mock-up human targets made of ballistic gel. Along the walls are also a fully pantry and fridge full of various foodstuffs.

Bonus Features: None, other than the possibility of being able to cook a meal in the middle of a fight.

The first of the camera crew would arrive at the Lu-Bu Heavenly Kitchen to find Lopez inspecting the wall of weapons, seemingly engaged in her thoughts.

”I’m just saying, there are a lot of weapons here, Miss Lazuli. If only you had taken those armed martial arts classes I suggested for you last summer, you would clearly have the upper hand here.” a woman’s voice spoke into Lopez’s earpiece.

“And skip out on my skate tour? Please, Taylor, I love you, you’re the best manager ever. But sometimes you gotta let me do my own thing.” Lopez replied. To the camera crew, it appeared as though she was talking to herself; they shrugged in confusion. “And besides, how hard could it be to swing one of these around?” she added, taking a long staff off from a weapon rack. She spun it above her head, and maneuvered it around her body; she made it look like the most natural thing in the world, until—

THWACK! Lopez had struck herself in the right hip. “OW! Ow, ow!” she cried out, dropping the staff to tend to the self-inflicted first strike of the match. She turned around, and quickly spied a camera lens pointed at her. “!! I—I mean,” Suddenly realizing she was probably already on live, Lopez quickly picked up the pole, twirled it a few more times and placed it back on the wall. “I—it’s not the weight I’m used to. Heh.”

______Well this was just downright strange. Dad told him he contracted out the Dojo name to be used on a cooking show but as busy as Tres was, he never had an opportunity to watch it. So when he entered the cooking stadium, he was struck by how eerie it was. It was the place he grew up in, but changed and made sterile for the purpose of shooting a cooking show. Mom never was much of a cook and it was usually either him or dad making meals for the family and the rest of the Students at the Dojo. He missed the part where Miss Lazuli struck herself with the bo-staff and entered the main circle right around. She looked familiar but for now her back was turned, placing the bo staff back on one of the far walls.

_______Tres remained in the Semi circle, some distance from the far walls where the weapons were placed. The fact that Tres had no armor or weapons to speak of so that gave him the opportunity to dress for the occasion. He was outfitted in a cooks garb, stark white, at least for now until the blood and condiments started flying. His dreadlocks were contained in a hair net bundle, as one would not want to get any hair in the food. The long white sleeves of the outfit obscured his crystalline left arm, which was further hidden by his opening of one the kitchen refrigerators. He took a moment to look around to see what was available to work with until;

_______A smile was on the middle aged psions face and he seemed comfortable despite the strangeness of it all. He planned on doing his family and Lu-Bu honor, by not only defeating his opponent, but making his fathers delicious Salmon Wellington. His mind focused, breathing in the inspiration of the Astral that always was literally near and dear to his heart.

Lopez turned around in response to the voice to find a man dressed in cook’s garb, who had apparently just taken a frozen salmon out from the refrigerator. “…What is this.” she said, in a completely deadpan tone. At that moment she thought she was about to go up against a villain who went by a handle like “Killer Chef”, or “Chef Man”, or something. “Gimmick villains are so Silver Age.” she muttered under her breath.

”Miss Lazuli, don’t let your guard down. That’s Tresondoros Ecstuffuan. Blessed with copious amounts of psionic power, and with a profound mastery over it. You need to watch for--” Unfortunately, it seemed as though Taylor had been cut off from the comm line for the match before she could tell Lopez any more.

“Eugh. Psionic.” she spoke under her breath again. Back in her dimension, Lopez preferred to stick to her own domain when it came to picking villains to fight. She left ‘Jay Green’ to deal with psychic threats. Lopez did have a tool for dealing with psionic projections, but…

Lopez snapped back to life. Her sarcastic quips game was A+, and she wasn’t about to let Tres take control of the pre-match banter. Not on camera. “Nah, I’m good. Although…I’ve heard you’re pretty good at dishing out beatdowns.” she replied, bending forward to lean on a counter top. “But…can you take one?” In the next moment, she jumped off of her feet to cartwheel over the counter. Her white-and-blue bodysuit changed color into yellow-and-blue before she landed in the center area, assuming a Kamen Rider style fighting stance.

“The name’s Lopez Lazuli, and I’m about to show you my True Blue Cuisine specialty…a classic knuckle sandwich!” she said, holding up a clenched fist. She looked like she was ready to make the first move, as long as Tres didn’t beat her to it.

______The strange crystalline left hand opposite of the flesh right holding the massive salmon, flexed and flared its digits. The hard fingers stretched into violent looking crystal curved talons that looked perfect for tearing flesh. How good they were at the task was then quickly displayed As Tres flayed the scales from the fresh Salmon and split its meat into four separate pieces in a single motion of the arm. The four pieces of fresh salmon landed with unnatural perfection on a wooden cutting board at the edge of the table near the refrigerator.

______Before Tres cut the fish, she landed in the center area not too far from where Tres stood. The color of her outfit changed, which was peculiar. He wasn't sure if the nature of the transformation, though simply aesthetic promised of anything more. While Tres cut the fish his eyes remained trained on Lopez. He wasn't familiar with the show Kamen Rider, but he'd seen his father compete in team based tournaments against squads of individuals not dissimilar. If Lopez caught his glance with her own, she would note the flesh of his right eye was no longer flesh at all, but a perfect spherical emerald gem that glowed with an ominous green light.

______Tres looked for anything supernatural and with his knowledge of the occult, based on what he saw he could discern the nature of her abilities, if they were supernatural. If they were technological, then he would notice nothing more than the change of color. Whatever he saw, Tres would throw the remains of the vivisected fish at Lopez, more of a distraction than anything else.

Tres would not find any sort of arcane, psionic, or spiritual energy on Lopez; she did not do well in any of her ventures into the supernatural arts. However, her bloodstream would glow in a faint blue; her Lazurite emitted at least some energy in all spectra.

Lopez was startled by Tres's display of the capabilities of his crystal arm. Yikes, sharp. she thought to herself, though the wince on her face seemed to get the message across to Tres just as well.

Lopez leapt off her right foot and began running straight for Tres. After a few steps forward, however, she appeared to start skating on the ground as if her feet were high-performance roller blades. Tres would find a blue streak heading toward him at 15 miles per hour.

[Sparkskate]

show spoilerhide spoilerSparkskate: Lopez kicks off with her right foot, and focuses on ‘kineticizing’ her left foot forward instead of downward, cancelling 90% of the friction that comes with sliding one’s foot on the ground; this effect is similar to wearing a pair of professional inline skates. Lopez can then skate across the ground with ease at speeds of up to 20 mph. In the 10 mph range, she exhibits agility and turning capability normally impossible for normal skaters; she can turn on a dime, and weave around traffic cones a meter apart with minimal effort. Blue sparks appear by her feet when Lopez does this, and she leaves behind a blue trail of light. Lopez likes to use this move to sweep in with a non-augmented punch, then slide back out of melee range again. During Overheat, her maximum speed is halved. Usage: Lasts 2 rounds: the turn it’s activated and the next one. Lopez can only use a sweep-in attack once. Cooldown of 2 rounds.

About five feet away from Tres, Lopez suddenly leaned back and slid down close to the ground. For a moment she was sliding with her left forearm gliding across the floor in addition to her two legs, in another feat that seemed to ignore the principles of friction. When she reached striking distance from Tres, Lopez flexed and twisted her torso. This accomplished two things: 1) It sent her lying body into a counter-clockwise motion, with her outstretched right leg threatening to crash into Tres’s left shin with a sweep kick; and 2) Sent the rest of Lopez’s body veering slightly to the right, preventing her from crashing straight into Tres afterwards. She would eventually straighten back into a standing position once she left striking distance.

Lopez’s ”Drift Kick” did not hold much power; she relied on the move tripping up her opponents, and letting gravity do the rest.

______Lopez ran forward and Tres came to meet her, though in a slow paced walk. His right reached out as he stepped around the corner edge of the main food preparation table. Between each of his digits he would acquire an array of powdered seasonings.

- - - -

______Miraculously the opponent began to skate across the ground accelerating her speed and dropping low to the ground defying all laws of physics. However she was not the only one who could move with a supernatural amount of grace. An emerald halo surrounded Tres's body in that moment just before her right leg collided with his left. With a small hop, Tres was carried into the air far more than his physical efforts could have possibly produced. Without the necessary momentum, somehow Tres's body turned as he careened over Lopez in a forward somersault. His right hand would fan out in a wide arc from left to right in that brief moment that Lopez slid beneath Tres whose aerial body was now upside down. A wave of Red, white, Yellow and black powder would slash in a beautiful arc of color, falling both upon the Salmon fillets perfectly arrayed on the table to his left and splash into the eyes of the sliding opponent to his right.

______The seasonings would apply in perfect portion on the filets and within the opponents eyes to cause blindness, sinus irritation, coughing, and a significant amount of pain. The Cayenne pepper especially would be the culprit. It was not traditionally a part of this recipe but Tres thought it might be a good addition to both the fish and the whites of the opponents eyes. The aerial somersault would bring Tres over the opponent and out of range of her sliding attack.

______After this gracious and delicious act, he landed behind Lopez and used his psionically augmented momentum to spin on the balls of his left foot to face her. During the turn Tres would take up a Sauce Pan in his left hand.

Lopez attempted to shield her eyes with her right arm, but a fair amount of assorted seasonings had already a-salt-ed both her eyes.

“GYAAAAAAAAH!?!” she shrieked in bewilderment and pain. She forced both her eyes shut, disorienting her; instead of gracefully pirouetting into a standing position, she spun uncontrollably across the kitchen floor and crashed into a counter. Her left shoulder took the brunt of the impact, bruising it.

What a humiliating situation! Lopez’s spinning spectacular crash would probably go viral on the internet in minutes! Her manager would often tell her that “there’s no such thing as bad publicity”, but Lopez preferred the more dignified kind of fame. “You little sneak!” she called out in Tres’s general direction; she could barely open her eyes because of the pain, and could not make out much beyond the tears welling up within her eyelids. She was blind; a blind fighter may as well be dead.

-but Lopez could still get out of this if she acted fast. She quickly stood up, and frantically searched the countertop behind her with her hands. Her right hand chanced upon a kitchen sink, and her left fell upon an enormous sack of flour. After a brief moment of deliberation, Lopez concentrated energy into her left arm. Tres would see it as an electric blue wave of light emanating through her left arm. She hammered her fist into the sack.

[Lazurite Pugilist]

show spoilerhide spoiler Lazurite Pugilist: Lazurite in Lopez’s body greatly speeds up the reactions required for the contraction of muscles; thus, her attacks come out quicker than average, connecting in about two thirds the time it takes for an average MMA fighter. Additionally, when blows come in contact with its target, the Lazurite reduces the reactive force on Lopez’s fist (the pain you feel when you punch something) and redirects it into additional force on the target. She also retracts her limbs more quickly than average. Her fists/legs briefly flash neon blue when attacking. During Overheat, Lopez will tend to go into temporary tetanus when attacking this way; her arm/leg remains in a hypercontracted state for up to half a second after a punch/kick, preventing her from retracting into a neutral position quickly. Usage: Lasts the round it’s activated, empowering up to 3 strikes. Cooldown: 1 turn

There was an explosion of blue smoke, powdering the area within a 10 foot radius with a flour smokescreen. Lopez unleashed a surge of kinetic energy into the flour in order to achieve such a large cloud. She was counting on the smokescreen to distract Tres long enough for her to get to work on her predicament.

Immediately she turned on the faucet, and shoved her face into the stream of water. She allowed the stream of water to wash off the excess burning pepper in her eyelids as she reached into her satchel for her [Emergency Coolant]. After a few seconds, she would then break open the pouch in her left hand, and hold it up onto her eyes. This would temporarily apply a cold mist on the sensitive sclera. The entire process would have taken quite some time; the cloud would have subsided by then. If Tres allowed that much time, Lopez would have successfully controlled the inflammation; she would still have terribly painful vision, but it would still be serviceable.

[Emergency Coolant]: A vial of quick-freeze material of some kind.

Condition:

  • Left shoulder bruised
  • Blurry vision* (if allowed to apply the Coolant)

Abilities:

  • Overheat: 0/4
  • Sparkskate: 1 of 2 cooldown
  • Pugilist: 0 of 2 cooldown

______His seasoning gambit was far more effective than even he could have imagined. The sound of the opponent crashing into a counter was music to his ears. He laughed, audibly at her predicament as he stuffed the seasonings into the front pockets of his cooks garb for later use. The psychic then walked over towards the counter top oven near where his fish filets sat on their wooden prep board. He glanced behind him and saw Lopez with her eyes still squeezed shut holding a bag of flower and for a moment he expected her to try and throw it at a target she could certainly not see. Tres was surprised when he saw a spark of blue lightning herald a mighty punch against the bag of flower, causing the bag to erupt in a cloud of blue.

_______Tres then did two things after setting down the pan in his right hand. He turned on the oven to a low heat and turned on the massive industrial oven fans. A roaring hum could be heard across the cooking stadium and slowly the bluish cloud would be sucked in to the vents. This would still afford Lopez some time to wash her eyes hidden from view, but not nearly as much as she would have hoped. With his right hand, Tres reached over to grab some olive oil to pour in the pan, while his left reached down to a nearby counter to grab a large bowl to set on the counter, in preparation for the puff pastry.

_______While the Olive oil came to a heat, Tres needed to grab a bag of spinach and some flour, which were both nearby the sink hidden among the quickly dissipating cloud of blue. So he walked over towards Lopez in a boxers stance and by the time she reached into her satchel for the coolant, Tres would be upon her rear and her blue cloud would mostly be gone into the powerful kitchen vents.

________If he were able to close the distance his left hand would reach to try and grab the wrist of the arm that reached into the satchel and his right jabbed forward in a palm strike to the back of her head. The attack was meant to disorient her and give him a moment to look for the necessary ingredients.
