Premise: With half of the participants remaining, GTB is now halfway through with a few more rounds until its conclusion. Through a series of three rounds, fighters have proved themselves of their prowess and ambition to win thus far, and move one step closer to their destination: the championship. However, as the numbers dwindle down, the competition increases, as the best are narrowed down and each comes with an equal amount of skill. It is going to take experience, intelligence, and even luck at this point to determine who goes on and who goes packing home.

Midus Sonners has also decided to increase the presentation of the fighting arenas that the fighters are going to be taking place in for the duration of the tournament. While keeping with the Colosseum theme, Midus will be including variations of themes to keep things interesting and not as boring as a plain sandy ground with some walls and people watching you. That is why he has sent all the fighters to another venue for their fights. This time, with all fighters on board a plane, the crew flew themselves to the southern coast, a place caused Myamu Beach. Normally a vacation resort, the entire span of the beach has been reserved for the entirety of round four. People will be scattered around each fighting site to watch the fighters go at it in a nightly beach arena. While to them it seems like entertainment, to the fighters this is life or death.

Description: The sun has set, bringing about the darkness of the night over the entirety of the beach. Instead of artificial lighting being used, natural fire has instead become its substitute, bringing about a constant changing hue of orange overlaying the beach and its occupants. The beach spans for a good amount of distance, so each fight will take places in its own "section" which will make it seem separate from the other far away fights.

Each fight takes place in a ring of fire, which is basically a large circle of the sandy beach. Outside this fire, spectators watch, either standing or sitting in chairs, laughing and talking as they enjoy their drinks, food, and conversation. While this may be a competitive tournament, this scene of "entertainment" has placed increasing obligations on the fighters themselves to keep the audience entertained. Unlike the normal arena, the people are closer than before and their boos, cheers, and comments can be heard a lot clearer and louder. This means the fighters will have the psychological element added to the fight, much like the closely watched fights such as wrestling and boxing. Expect a noisy atmosphere.

Field Measurements: The ring of fire has a diameter of 45 yards, which is 135 ft. For those who need a comparison, just look at a football field and see the distance from one touchdown line to the 45 yard line. On the boundary of this circle is a series of lit fires on wood, which are as tall as only one to two feet. Spectators are spaced twenty feet away from this boundary in order to avoid possible injury from the fight.

User Image

Ten Count Boundary: Going outside the ring of fire will result in the starting of the ten count. The flying rule remains intact.

Added Penalty: Harming spectators is a no-no. Any intentional action against them that ends up hurting even one will result in a DQ. This can be either direct (going up to one and hurting them) or indirect (using a very dangerous attack that has a possibility of hurting the spectators). Accidents will be gauged to see whether it counts as an accident or was considered recklessness by the user.

2Tenkai Matsumoto

Tenkai had enjoyed the plane ride. It was one of the few times in the tournament that the monk actually felt he was taking a vacation rather than participating. For a while Tenkai duped himself into thinking that just for the sake of relaxation, but he knew he wouldn't be able to think that way for long.

Of course, once the plane landed, Tenkai actually wished he wason vacation.

"Well, would you look at that..."

Talk about dangling the cherry. It seemed as if Mr. Sonners was going to have the fourth round duked out on the beach like a twilight luau. The entire beach was lit up with little mounds of burning wood and stone. It was safe enough to assume that those rings were going to serve as the arenas for each of the fights. The sight seemed to poke at something in the monk's head, causing him to hum a tune he had heard once in passing.

I Fell Into A Burning Ring Of Fire

The ring seemed a little over 40 meters in diameter. That'd be plenty of space to fight, but he'd have to be very careful if things started to get flashy. There were no walls to protect the spectators now, and there probably wasn't any sort of magic barrier pertaining to that ring of fire. Not only that, the spectators were in earshot now. It was a hell of a change from Tenkai's fight with Snow, where they practically had to fight out in the middle of nowhere.

As Tenkai approached the ring, there wasn't much of an outcry. His monk robes didn't really make him look like a fighter, so it was easy to overlook. Even the jingling rings of his shakujo were hard to hear amidst the tumult of the spectators. But once Tenkai was about half-way between the audience and the ring, people started to perk up as the monk started fiddling with his robes. As always, it was best not to bring his robes inside the ring since they weren't registered.

He also didn't want to inadvertently throw it into one of those fires...eesh.

Sounds of metal plating and leather straps pulling and shifting into place came from him as he pulled off his robe, setting it to the side. His Buddhist rosary necklace disconnected and pulled off with the robe, remaining in his right hand. This left Tenkai dressed only in a half-worn kosode with the left side down and a pair of samurai trousers, with a tattered cloth hanging off the sides and back of his white rope belt. His right shoulder was protected by a single samurai pauldron, while his right arm was entirely clad in a gauntlet from the forearm down. His knees and shin were also armored in similar Japanese-styled yoroi armor pieces. The shifting of his shoulder armor pulled two sheathed Japanese swords into there respective places, one horizontally on his lower back and the other diagonally over his right shoulder.

The crowd roared.

And Tenkai was startled.

"Eh!?"

He looked behind him to see the spectators, now recognizing him, were cheering. It was a feeling Tenkai certainly wasn't used to.

Recognition...

It was actually a bit uncomfortable for him. Tenkai enjoyed the simplicity of his life, being able to deal with what he set out to do without needing to worry about common folk recognizing him. It was bad enough to be recognized by vampires with what Tenkai did for a living. But every now and then someone would come along, recognizing Tenkai from somewhere, and it always came off as a surprise to the monk. They would always suggest that he enter tournaments to test his skill. It was how he ended up learning about this tournament and others.

But this...

This was more than recognition amongst fighters. This was a crowd cheering for him, cheering for what he did to Snow in the previous round. Tenkai saw nothing of praise in what happened. He was simply helping Snow find his way...a personal thing between two swordsmen. He didn't want to feel special for any of it...playing around between life and death.

I'm not that special.

Then again, perhaps Tenkai was being overly modest. No matter how much you try to remain anonymous, people will know of the things you do and look for you...either to praise or punish you. Tenkai couldn't avoid it, and as he looked back into the eyes of the spectators, he realized he needed to enjoy it.

At least in thiscase.

So Tenkai would wave, a modest smile plastered on his face as if he was trying to settle everyone down while simultaneously greeting them all.

With that settled, Tenkai re-connected his Buddhist rosary necklace across his chest like a bandolier over his left shoulder. He continued forward, his geta clogs keeping his feet from getting sunk into the sand. He passed in between two of the braziers and stopped about ten feet into the arena, holding his shakujo steady in his right hand like some sort of supporting pillar. Even if he only wished to use his swords in this fight, he would leave his shakujo in the ring anyway.

(Edit 09/06/09: Ahhh crap, I knew I forgot something. :/ When I drew that picture in my last fight with Snow I forgot to add the whole thing with my arm wrap. The judges have it listed, and it wouldnt have been noticed other than the wrapping on my left arm hiding it, anyway. Though it'd just look like I wrapped up my arm anyway. ._. It didn't really matter much...

Then again, I guess my sig sprite is accurate enough. I'm going to go add an early artwork picture to my public profile. It doesn't have a hugebearing on the fight, I just hated missing that detail. I won't change this post though, just noting it for the future so that I don't forget. ><)

3We Came To Fight

The crowd wouldn't settle though, in fact they would get louder as more and more people caught sight of what was happening.

Elliot made his way through the sea of spectators, which parted more and more with every foot step he took. Their deafening roars and applause hurt his ears, but he couldn't help but grin as he high-fived and fist bumped all the way down to the ring. He was more than used to the lime-light by now and it showed. Elliot was at home amongst the crowd knowing many of them backed him. Sure, there were your hard-core martial-artists present that may have found Elliot's excessively brutal attacks distasteful, but fuck 'em. Many of the spectators, at the resort at least, were 20-something party goers, who could sooner relate to a foul-mouthed gangbanger than a modest samurai cookie-cut from your favorite anime. This was his country. So to speak.

Although the setting did remind him of his country. Days and nights spent on the beaches of Cuba in his early childhood, before the palm trees and warm beaches were replaced with street lamps and cold concrete. He could almost hear the bongos. Being the aforementioned party-goer he was, it felt good to be out in the night again. Before the tournament he hadn't seen midday in months.

Fighting at night also brought problems of course, being that he didn't have the sun, the source of his greatest abilities. Though he had long developed ways of working around this he didn't want to go into the fight without what had become his signature move, and so immediately after the flight he spent what was left of the day poolside, taking in as much energy as he could as he rested up and recovered from jet-lag. This much was evident though, as his caramel skin was now nearly as dark as the cigar he puffed between his lips. Even still he couldn't hold very much energy, and had never stored energy longer than a few minutes so he wasn't great at it. Or even good for that matter. The longer he waited to use it, the less he had at his disposal. He'd probably only manage to annoy his opponent at best. From the looks of it he wouldn't even want to use much, if any, with all of the people around him anyway. Besides, he began to feel like laser to the dome was getting old. He still had an entire setlist of abilities and techniques he had yet to amaze the crowd with.

Stepping into the ring he took another drag of his cigar before spitting it onto the sand, exhaling the smoke through his nostrils. By the fireside, opposite his opponent, his usual weapons could be seen on his person, the same two he had brought to every match. By now he had begun to unclip the kusarigama from his right, noticing his opponent had brought some kind of pole-thing. What appeared to be a katana sat silently attached to his left hip. There was a third weapon, somewhere, tucked in the pockets of his baggy dark green cargo shorts. He wore his usual black beater on his torso. Armor is for wusses.

Stepping further in he hopped around a bit, getting his blood pumping among other things. (+1 charge)

He would then walk closer in, though keeping out of striking distance for both men, he decided he'd chat the man up a bit, establish rules if his opponent wanted anyway, though Elliot preferred to challenge people in their entirety, rather than just one aspect of combat.

And so he approached the samurai, a welcoming smile playing his lips. He could have just as well been reuniting with an old friend. This was the first match since fighting his brother, in which he didn't have a rooted grudge against his opponent. "Hola amigo...I mean, hi sir!"

He felt to much at home.

4Tenkai Matsumoto

Tenkai stood there as his opponent approached, getting a good look at him as he made his way towards the ring. He seemed somewhat urban in his attire, further denoted by how well the early-20s demographic of the audience was recieving him. The monk had no preference or distaste for this. He merely smiled, rubbing his chin a bit.

Though the usual gangbanger types tended to have smaller, urban-styled weapons, Tenkai's opponent had weapons that the monk found much more familiar. It had been a while since he had seen such a weapon. Although rustic in its development, it as extremely effective and versatile. Tenkai didn't need to see the katana to know his opponent could adapt to long and close-range combat.

On first glance Tenkai would have expected a switchblade or something similar, but with those baggy shorts there was no telling what his opponent had hidden.

Tenkai wasn't exactly sure what else his opponent had in his arsenal, but he was definately energetic. The monk could tell that much simply by the air he gave off around the audience. The confident stride, the bit of aerobic warm-up. There was definately some sort of energy at work here.

Tenkai had not had the chance to use anything more than his fists and his sword against his opponents in the previous rounds. For all the audience knew, they were all Tenkai had. But the monk couldn't hope for things to go that smoothly for long. There was no point in testing your abilities when you didn't use them to their full extent.

With regards to audience safety, of course.

But rather than drawing energy by the heat of the moment, or the blood-pumping tempo of the roaring audience, Tenkai simply took a breath. If his opponent was the heat of the fire, then Tenkai would be the calm of the water. If Elliot was sensitive at all to this, he would feel that calm rippling off of the monk.

Which is why Tenkai was extremely welcoming of his opponent's desire to chat.

"Buenos noches," replied Tenkai with an unearthly calm and friendly attitude. You would think someone would be much more tense and hostile towards someone they were about to fight with, but that wasn't very like a Buddhist monk to begin with. It seemed that in spite of their differences, Tenkai and Elliot saw eye-to-eye in this regard.

Nevertheless, he also didn't want to waste his opponent's time. If he was waiting for some sort of special arrangement like the one Tenkai had with Snow, Tenkai would need to address that.

"In case you're wondering, I'd rather fight without restriction," said the monk. "I had enough of that in my last fight. The only thing I ask is that we both take care with regard to the spectators. I'm sure neither of us want them hurt."

Tenkai thrust his shakujo into the sand like a post as he took a step forward, taking hold of the sheath of the katana on his lower back, pulling it over to the left side of his hip.

"My name is Tenkai Matsumoto," said the monk as he stood there calmly, "Tell me, friend...what is your name, and why do you fight?"

5We Came To Fight

(Sorry for the late reply.)

A sudden hush went over the once roaring crowd, as the audience strained to hear the terms on which they would be entertained.

Elliot cracked a smile as the samurai replied in Spanish. Elliot was doubtful that he knew much more, but still, even that much was unexpected.

"Buenos noches....I'm down with that, wouldn't wanna hurt any of the beautiful ladies in our audience"

He replied, saying the second part especially loud, which lead to a joyous reaction in some members of the crowd. Elliot's grin widened. His lively disposition further illuminated the contrast between the two men. Elliot could sense the calm coming off of Tenkai. Not so much in a supernatural sense, as many in Gaia have. No, any supernatural senses Elliot had would be turned to the light around them, syncing him with it. What he used to read Tenkai was far more basic then that.

As a conman and thief it was favorable for Elliot to be able to read faces, decipher vocal tones and other body language. 'Did they believe what he was telling them, or were they getting wise?' or 'did these guys really have the money like they said, or were they gonna take the product and dip out?' Just someone the questions Elliot had to answer for himself without asking. But just as he knew which signs to look for when someone's playing him, he knew which ones to give off, allowing to him to play on both sides of manipulation with a straight face.

Tenkai seemed pretty chill for the moment though

"I'm Elliot Pope...and why do I fight?" He started, pausing as if to think. "Not sure buddy, s'pose it's just what I do, how I make a livin' ya' know? How bout' you?" He decided to ask. Why not? he figured.

Athough his opponent removed his staff, Elliot would keep hold of his kusarigama. It hadn't gotten as much action in past rounds as Elliot would have liked.

6Tenkai Matsumoto

(It's all good. :3)

Tenkai couldn't help but giggle at Elliot's remark. Although narrowed towards the women of the audience, Tenkai trusted that Elliot meant the audience as a whole.

But the answer to Tenkai's second question was what the monk was really interested in.

"A living, is it?" he replied. His calm was unwavering, but he still mused over the possibilities that description gave. He could have fought simply in competitions for the prize money in order to support himself. On the other hand, criminals, contract killers, mercenaries...all of them fought for a living as well, from all parts of the moral spectrum.

Or did he live for the fame given from being a fighter?

"As for me...well...you'll learn about why I fight in due time. But tell me..."

A cryptic statement, but oddly it seemed as if the monk's little interview had something to do with that reason.

With one swift movement, Tenkai removed the sword from his belt, saya and all, holding it in his left hand at his hip. He took a step back with his left foot, bringing his right hand to the hilt of his sword.

"If you fight for a living, who or what do you live for?"

With that, Tenkai stepped forward with his rear left foot and advanced. His steps were faster than a simple walk, but far from a full-blown charge. They were careful, his feet not that far above the ground with each step. Perhaps closing the distance would start the fight off.

7We Came To Fight

Seeing the samurai readying his weapons, Elliot would get himself into gear. His right hand would begin to twirl the manriki end of his weapon in a clock-wise direction, creating a circle just over four feet in diameter, the speed of his twirl seeming to increase with each lap. His left hand was motionless in contrast, feeling the familiar strength and hardness of the scythe's Gaian oak handle in his grip.

"Iuno." Elliot replied matter-of-factly, his words almost inaudible to Tenkai.

He was sure there was probably a deeper reason to his existence, but right before a match was no time to contemplate life's great mysteries. Tenkai seemed like a cool guy, and Elliot wouldn't mind talking philosophy with him over a beer after the fact, but dude had drawn his sword with the same breath he asked his question. Chit-chat was over. He came to fight.

As Tenkai closed in, Elliot could feel his heart racing with the adrenaline of the oncoming battle pumping inside him. (+1 charge)

A warm island breeze would sweep over both men. Though light, it seemed to blow the smile off of Elliot's face, as he traded his joyous disposition for one of focus. His dark eyes took to Tenkai's form under furrowed eyebrows in a look of unfaltering determination, like how Clint Eastwood's do when he's about to shoot something.

After letting him advance a few paces Elliot would use their distance to his advantage. The chain end of his weapon would be launched forward, Elliot aiming to wrap it around Tenkai's supporting left ankle as he was just over two meters away. Of course he would follow up with something afterwards, but just what depended on his opponent's reaction.

(I have a bit of trouble explaining the chain's motion, especially at 2am. If you have any questions lemme know.)

e. energy= 2

8Tenkai Matsumoto

(Don't worry, I know what you mean. It's alright.)

For some reason, Tenkai expected an answer like that. If Tenkai wasn't so alert for the fight, he'd have missed the answer entirely. People often had a hard time relating such reasons in the heat of battle. For some people, all they lived for was to fight. But even Tenkai knew that wasn't entirely true, no matter how much it felt like it. Perhaps he'd learn more about Mr. Pope in good time.

But for now, Tenkai had to put that aside. His smile faded for a moment as he went into action.

As Tenkai advanced, he watched as Elliot built up momentum with the weighted end of his kusarigama. The monk expected as much for the start. That weapon would definately make this fight a difficult one with its range versatility.

Rather than wait for Tenkai to get within melee range, Elliot took the initiative. The manriki swung low toward's Tenkai's left, probably intending to either strike Tenkai's feet out from under him or wrap around his ankle to immobilize it. The swing was too fast for Tenkai to tell which his opponent was trying. All he knew was that it was coming right for him...

Luckily, Tenkai had expected this.

CSHICSHINCKSH!

The chains would definately reach Tenkai and wrap around something, but not his ankle. In one swift motion, Tenkai swung his sheathed sword down in the way of the chain, stopping the momentum of his advance with his right foot. The chain would start to wrap around the sheath mid-swing, but Tenkai followed through with the swing until the sheath was pointed out and away from his body. That way the chain wouldn't clock him in the head or shin as it wrapped around.

This would leave Tenkai holding his sword outward towards his left at an angle, his left hand on the sheath while his right hand remained on the hilt. Was he trying to play some sort of tug-of-war with him?

So that's how it is? You don't know?

Tenkai smiled once more.

二本! [2]

9We Came To Fight

He blocked. Feh, Elliot figured it would happen. When does your first attack ever really work anyway?

At the very least Tenkai had halted his advance, and that was all El really wanted anyway. As his chain took to Tenkai's sheath, Elliot's left hand would abandon his kama and dip into his pocket to produce a third weapon.

With the speed of a pickpocket Elliot drew a foggy glass ball, roughly the size of a pool cue. Star-burst.

He tugged the chain once more, insuring its hold on the samurai's sheath. Elliot would then take a swift step back with his left foot, pulling the chain with every bit of strength his right arm could muster, biting his lower lip as he moved. Immediately after Elliot would whip the star-bust forward, underhand, in a motion similar to skipping a stone.

Like a meteor, the ball would crash into the sand at Tenkai's feet before exploding.

As proved in his match against the cop, the ensuing explosion wasn't life threatening. At the absolute most Tenkai could lose a foot or part of a leg, though given his armor he would probably only be knocked on his back and get a couple burns. There was also the glass shards that were launched into the air like shrapnel. Hopefully Tenkai was wearing a good cup because they were headed for some tender areas, being between his legs and all. There was also a blinding flash. Given the time of day, and the poor lighting of the fires, Tenkai's eyes had likely adjusted to the dark by now, and so the flash would be like waking up to a police floodlight beaming all up in ya' grill. Elliot knew how that was. Stung like hell. There were also the inherit damages of an explosion, such as the concussive forces, the deafening boom, and the disorientation brought with it. It would probably knock a good deal of sand into the air

It was a big move to make so early but hey, go hard or go home.

The audience didn't have to trip over the blast either, it was highly unlikely if not impossible for them to be affected by the shrapnel. Even from his position Elliot wasn't flinching. He felt a few shards scraping his arms and shins. A couple stuck him but most didn't break skin.

Elliot kept his pull on Tenkai's sheath through the explosion, in the case he decided to ditch it and run, yet even then he probably couldn't move far enough to make a difference, but who knows with Gaians right?

'Course he would have to know it was a bomb in the first place.

Dropping the kama was definately an unusual thing for Tenkai to see from someone wielding a kusarigama. Of course, it didn't take very long at all for it to register in his head what Elliot was going for...

His pockets!?

Of course! The baggy cargo shorts! Tenkai knew he was going to pull something out of there eventually, but he didn't expect him to do it now. Although the darkness made it harder to make out exact apperances, Tenkai's eyes were sharp enough as a swordsman that he couldn't see any glint of a bladed edge, or even an edge shape. Elliot had drawn something spherical.

Well, that couldn't be good.

When Tenkai saw kusarigama, he kept thinking of the Iga ninja he had met in Kyoto back when he was still training as a boy. More often than not, harmless-looking spheres were never just that. Firebombs, smoke-grenades...it didn't matter really. The monk knew that danger came in small packages.

But why was Elliot using that here?

Although the sphere was small, explosives knew not their masters. From this point in the ring it probably wouldn't reach anyone in the audience, but it was still too risky. Especially if it was some kind of flash-bang grenade. Somehow, Tenkai had to stop Elliot from using it...or at least from using it again if he had more.

Elliot began tugging on the chain. It held pretty tightly on Tenkai's scabbard, and the monk held strong against the chain to maintain this hold. It looked as if he was bracing himself. It was unfortunate that Elliot couldn't simply sense the "calm" around Tenkai before rather than see it in his face. If he could, he would probably be able to feel the rise of his ki.

Quote: Wrote:

--Tenkai would soon be too close for comfort.

As Elliot stepped back to pull with the chain, Tenkai pushed off into a powerful dash, using the force of the chain pull and Elliot's strength to bring him in close in a very short amount of time. By the time Elliot whipped his arm around, the monk would be (in Elliot's terms) "up in his grill."

Well...maybe not thatclose...yet...

At first this charge would look like it only had one advantage...albeit a foolhardy one. With Tenkai moving with the pull of Elliot's right arm, Tenkai would be too close by the time Elliot's left came in with the throw. With the way Tenkai moved towards Elliot's right, his throw would either miss by a slim margin off Tenkai's lower right side, or end up exploding close enough for Elliot to take a good deal of the blast himself. That wouldn't be good with the sphere being so close to that right arm of his...

Although Tenkai was prepared to take damage from the explosion, that wasn't the least of Elliot's worries. That was because Tenkai's true counter-attack would come in muchsooner...

Once Tenkai was within a meter or so of his opponent, he would push against his sheath with his left hand, letting it go with Elliot's pull as his left hand went down to the sword's hilt. Elliot had practically drawn Tenkai's blade for him. The light of the flames reflecting off of Muramasa's blade would only be a fleeting vision to Elliot before Tenkai struck.

SHHHHIIINNGGGG!!!

風神斬

*"Fuujinzan!"* (Wind God Slash)

Tenkai would cut Elliot from the right side of his chest down towards his left arm, right as it whipped around to throw his weapon. Strengthened by his ki, the strike was strong enough to displace the air around it. Normally Tenkai used this as a projectile "air blade" attack, but left it much weaker this time so that there was no chance it would harm the audience. Fortunately, this meant that using the attack at point-blank range was still effective, and yet weak enough that the "air blade" would disperse before it could do any fatal damage to Elliot.

Tenkai hoped the end of the strike would injure Elliot's left arm such so that it would either interrupt the underhand whip or divert the throw even more towards Tenkai's outside right. With Tenkai closer to Elliot's right side, it would mean that avoiding the explosive would be all the more easy. But with Elliot's right hand pulling back on the chain and his left hand disarmed of his kama, he wouldn't be able to defend against Tenkai's sword.

Still, resorting to tricks in the middle of a fight where the audience was that close wasn't something Tenkai liked very much. Those sort of tactics were used by ninja, but Elliot definately didn't look like one with how much he enjoyed the crowd. However, the monk had also seen the same attitude amongst rogues and thieves. Was this what Elliot meant by making a living?

Just what did he live for anyway?

三本! [3]

11We Came To Fight

Nah, the audience was straight. Elliot had used his star-bursts countless times to the same effect. When people see, or think of bombs they think uberbangexplosion. His were relatively smaller. Hell, the cop in his earlier match took a direct hit and the bastard stillkept fighting. El was only sad the audience didn't get to see Tenkai asplode. S'all good though.

Elliot hadn't taken his eyes off of Tenkai to so much as blink, so of course he saw his uncanny approach.

The thing about the kusarigama is that depending on how you hold it, even if you drop the kama, you don't really drop it. The scythe dangled in mid-air, connected to the chain Elliot held in his right hand. This was partially the reason he decided not to begin his throw until after the pull. He could drop his bomb and grab the hanging kama just as easily as Tenkai could draw his sword. But he wouldn't. For now he would just watch him.

With both hands on one sword there was pretty much only one way an attack would come from. This didn't mean he ruled out other things. Far too often people assume the only thing to match a weapon is another weapon...

"Did anyone tell this dude announcing your attacks was played out?" "BUMP!!"

Just as Tenkai would initiate his swing, Elliot would step-slide forward and simultaneously shoot forward his right arm, which was already somewhat raised, knocking his forearm against Tenkai's sword bearing left wrist as he attacked, as it was assumed to be at the bottom, with the right closer to the gaurd. Since Tenkai aimed to cut at about that level anyway they would collide nicely, halting the attack.

"Bzzzzerkt"

Upon the collision Elliot would pump some of the electrical energy he had been storing, into the man's arm, enough to shut it down for the moment and then some, burning it aswell. The crowd would get to peep some eye candy was the energy jumped from Elliot's skin to Tenkai's, and that was just his block!

"DUNEKIT"

With Tenkai's arms held across his body undergoing shock therapy, Elliot's left hand had the perfect chance to rock his opponent's jaw. And rock it he would. He never let go of that star-burst by the way. If Tenkai hadn't gotten a good look at it earlier he would now as the Cubano ran the hard glass sphere across homeboy's face one good time.

"Didn't wanna, now I gotta"

The south-paw karate-ka managed to murmur as he swung, annoyed that Tenkai would try to cut his arm off, or at least he thought he was. Elliot had shallow sense of mercy and naturally expected the same of his opponents.

*!

Fast!*

His opponent had recovered his right arm from that pull faster than Tenkai expected. But why was he pushing forward into the attack? At their distance it'd only make things worse considering the strength he put behind the Fuujinzan.

Why is he reaching out with his arm? It'll get in the...

"Bzzzzerkt"

"AAAGGGHHH!!"

Tenkai's eyes widened as his left arm was assaulted by the jolt of electricity from Elliot's forearm. The ki he had focused in his left arm helped minimalize the burns, but he wasn't prepared to completely defend against it. His left arm went numb, but the monk's cry was a bit odd for a cry of pain. Something sounded off about it, as if the pain was mixed with a cry of effort with an undertone of heavy regret.

As Tenkai's left arm was electrocuted, it let go of his sword's pommel.

This meant that Tenkai's right hand was free to continue the movement of his slash. With the ki still built up for his Fuujinzan technique inside his right arm, the force of the slash would be more than enough for a powerful strike. With Elliot's right forearm against Tenkai's left wrist and his left arm preparing his strike, Elliot had a large opening.

The only thing was, this strike was worse than what Tenkai had intended. Not only did he not expect his opponent to push intohis attack, he didn't wanthim to. Although now Elliot's left arm was out of the way, with Elliot's left arm poised for his next attack, the forward movement of his right arm would have Tenkai's sword cut even deeper into the right side of his chest, leaving a deeper gash in his sternum and ribs. The strike would halt Elliot's efforts to whack Tenkai with that glass ball, otherwise the blade would cut deeper into Elliot's lower left ribcage.

Stepping in to try and halt the attack was a big mistake. Tenkai was hoping Elliot would try to move instead and interrupt his throw. The monk was still convinced it was some sort of explosive, as he didn't have time to notice Elliot had attempted to smash it into him. All he could think about was trying to get away and pull back on the strike...

But his strike would end just as Tenkai mustered his spirit through his left arm, counter-acting with the electricity. Something in Tenkai's left arm seemed to be facilitating this use of reiki, which flashed along with the sparks of electricity in a burst of blue "fire". This "fire" wouldn't injure Elliot, as his own electricity clashed with it, but the shock would be enough paired with the strike to send the two of them flying back in opposite directions.

SHWOOOM!

The sparks of electricity and burst of blue spirit fire would act as a powerful crescendo, sending the crowd into a roaring frenzy for both fighters.

Tenkai landed in a roll, ending up on his knees shakily. He clutched his left arm, still crackling with electricity, almost hating the fact that the crowd was excited by such a violent display. The burns from the electricity had singed through his left arm's wrap, revealing an odd inscription tatooed on Tenkai's left arm. It must have been what he used to help break the distance after the electrical attack, but he was caught too off guard to properly defend. He was going to need a moment after that attack.

But Tenkai didn't let this cloud his focus. Even with his last attack, there was no telling how Elliot took it or what he'd do after. He'd wait until he knew the situation before deciding his next action.

However...if there was blood on the sand, Tenkai's feeling of regret would just grow deeper.

"Got 'um!"

Elliot thought to himself as he felt the impact of Tenkai's wrist on his forearm.

He didn't know what prompted him to counter that way. Perhaps all those years spent training in his uncle's broke down dojo payed off. It just felt like a natural reaction, like how you reach for a falling glass. His form was near perfect too, his arm running almost parallel with his body, his fist about level with his shoulder. It would have been better if he had hit him with the blade of his hand, but you can't argue with success, or at least what he thought was success.

"Damn, that blade's still coming"

Tenkai Matsumoto Wrote:

> As Tenkai's left arm was electrocuted, it let go of his sword's pommel. > > This meant that Tenkai's right hand was free to continue the movement of his slash...

Cool move, but just one thing...

Elliot didn't put his arm down after the block, so Tenkai would have had some trouble cutting Elliot for a few reasons. The primary being that Elliot's arm was still in Tenkai's way. In order to carve our hero up Tenkai would have to move his hands around the limb, but he didn't, he continuedthe movement without changing direction. Not like he really could anyway. You figure Tenkai's left and right hands were gripping the same sword, maybe six inches away max. With the speed he was swinging with there was no way he'd be able break away from the motion his arm had already committed to. And so his right arm would land in the same spot as his left, maybe just an inch or two away.

You had to give him credit though. Electricity, especially in high amounts, usually causes the muscles to twitch, and tense up. Since Tenkai was being shocked at the wrist you can sure as hell bet his hand was no exception. How he was able to instantly let go his weapon without missing a beat when he should have been involuntarily clinging to it like his last dollar perplexed Elliot. But anyway. "Thwap!! BZZZKRT!!"

Tenkai's right sword bearing hand collided with Elliot's arm, much like the left since they were both going in the same direction. The arm was still discharging electricity, though he didn't count on shocking him, though it could, depending on the composition of Tenkai's gauntlet thing. Though in honesty, he didn't really care, cause' right about now he was introducing Tenkai's cheek to the polished surface of his spherical device, since his attack had no cut to interfere against it.

"FWACK!"

A small crack shot through the orb on contact.

Some audience members covered their eyes or turned away, going "oooo" and hissing in empathized pain.

Grinning, Elliot drew back for a second blow, when.

"FWBOOOOOOM!"

"Dios mio!"

Elliot didn't even know what hit him. He didn't feel harmed at all but wondered how he ended up flat on his ass. To make matters worse he dropped his bomb in the push. It wasn't activated. He was pretty sure.

Before even standing up Elliot would bark at Tenkai, sensing his hesitations.

"No more of this half steppin' bull, either you get real or you get the fuck outta here and stop wastin' my time!! Comprende?"

Judging

A request for a judge was called. After some reading, I see where the problem came in. Elliot, I think you didn't pay attention to how much a "meter" is. In Tenkai's post, he said right when he was in a meter, which is over 3 and a half feet in distance, he slashed with his sword. Katanas are usually 2 feet in blade length. Add that with the length increased by the arm, and it is clear that he's attacking with the tip of the weapon, thus reasoning why he doesn't want to go for something fatal. This is where you messed up by moving in. I don't think Elliot would have been fast enough to try to stop the blade at the wrist, not if there was a little more feet decreased between them.

If anything, all Elliot will be able to do is hit the blade from its underside with a tap because Tenkai is right in saying that you can't be "pulling" then suddenly go into a quick forward motion. It's a cruel trick in tug o' war to have both sides pulling, then one of them letting go so the other can fall. Even though they technically win, they took all that momentum. This is what is happening in this scenario.

Thus, the ruling is that Elliot takes the attack.

(So, wait, where do we begin from? His reaction to the initial counter? Or his reaction to my last attack? o.o Which one is he taking?

And should I wait until Elliot edits his post?)

((So in other words, my third post? Alright.

Elliot, if you could (I'm posting this here so that the judges note of it, as well), make a post with regards to my third post given the Judge ruling. I'm going to go strikeout my 4th post since it no longer applies, to avoid confusion.

I'll make a new fourth post from your reaction.))

His move depended on Tenkai still being two meters away, which he clearly wasn't. Elliot could drop his bomb and grab the hanging kama just as easily as Tenkai could draw his sword. And he would. > > > > > Tenkai Matsumoto Wrote: > > > SHHHHIIINNGGGG!!! > > > > > > *"Fuujinzan!"* > > > (Wind God Slash) > > > > > > Tenkai would cut Elliot from the right side of his chest down towards his left arm, right as it whipped around to throw his weapon.

"Did anyone tell this dude announcing your attacks was played out?"

The tug of war trick was a little different. You don't see it at all, you're just pulling and one minute and another your on the ground. With Elliot, even in the fire light it would be hard to miss a fully grown samurai hurtling forward and interpret what that could mean for him, and respond correctly, mentally bracing himself at the very least. Besides, if Tenkai was using it to propel himself forward, this meant Elliot was catching more than dead slack, but rather had some weight to help balance himself.

In anycase Elliot's yank came after his step back, meaning the only thing set off balance was his right arm. As it came back, Elliot would feel the bump of the kama's wooden handle against his tensed left knuckle and reach out for it, switching weapons once more. As Tenkai drew back for his swing, our boy El would readjust himself.

"FKSCHWING!!"

Tenkai's sword would fit into the right angle of the kama like a baseball in a mitt, catching it almost midway down the blade as he extended his arm. The metal rings that were tightly wrapped around the top of the weapon's handle would protect the wood from being diced by the razor sharp edge of his katana, as well as rob it of its forward momentum, presumably preventing the wind blade. In the split second that their weapons would lock Elliot would play on his manipulation of light, inducing a flash similar to the one that was meant to come along with his explosive, the light spawning from Elliot's eyes.

And then, he'd step forward.

((3.2 actually, if Google is right. But a katana's blade length is a few inches over 2 feet long, excluding the hilt, which can equal around 3 feet in total, excluding the arm length.

Though I should have probably made the blade specifics a bit more in-depth. >< It's definately not a short katana, but I'm not swinging around some sort of nodachi.

I'm still a bit confused about your post, though. ._. If your kama's chain is in your right hand, wouldn't it be hanging by your right hand? How would it be against your "tensed left knuckle"?

It seems a bit too speedy that you're able to reach over to it by the time my sword comes in, but that's not really the problem. I'm using a 2-handed swing and you've only just grabbed your kama with one hand. How does that perfectly halt the swing entirely? And this is without factoring in the energies being used in the swing.

But I don't want to keep this any longer. I'm going to roll with this again.))

"FKSCHWING!!"

A quick defense...

It was very fortunate for the both of them. Tenkai may not have been able to release his Fuujinzan, but he had also prevented Elliot from using whatever that glass ball was. Perhaps this was the right...

We Came To Fight Wrote:

> In the split second that their weapons would lock Elliot would play on his manipulation of light, inducing a flash similar to the one that was meant to come along with his explosive, the light spawning from Elliot's eyes.

Chikushou! (Damnit!)

That flash!

That wasn't normal for a weapon clash. Did that glass ball do that? No...it happened at the clash of their blades, not where he dropped the bomb. It had to be some sort of trick. Tenkai could feel the energy coming off of Elliot as the flash came. Something was coming, and Tenkai had to act fast or else.

Elliot stepped forward...

...and Tenkai pushed his arms off to his left, against the kama, while pushing himself away from Elliot.

The force of his two-handed grip against Elliot's one-handed kama defense would push Elliot's left arm roughly towards Elliot's inside, to his right. This put Tenkai further to Elliot's outside, while the force of the parry would push into his body. With Elliot taking that step forward, the parry would put him very much off balance, enough to cause him to hit the ground hard on his right side.

Tenkai backpedaled a few steps before halting his momentum abruptly on his right foot, stumbling a moment before landing on his left knee. Tenkai's parry would be enough to disorient his opponent until Tenkai's sight could clear up.

*What a shame. This is the first I've been drawn on a human in a long time, and not even a taste of blood yet...*

This is not the time...

Tenkai mentally chastised Muramasa, keeping it in it's place. Although Tenkai hated having to draw blood needlessly like he had when fighting Snow, it was going necessary for the tournament.

(The chain was dangling from his right hand. As he pulled back, the kama, hanging from said chain, swung to his left from the pulling motion, bumping against the knuckle on his left hand. His left then let go of the sphere and grabbed the kama that was floating directly infront of his hand.

I'm sure, even before his enhanced speed, that he could do this in the time it takes for you to approach me, draw your weapon and slash. I'll admit I probably should have put more about the trembles it put through his arm, infact I meant to, but I forgot. In hindsight my description makes it sound like it stops on a dime. It doesn't. But it does stop him from getting cut. And I don't think it matters whether he just got it or not. Once it's solidly in his grip, it's good as it's gonna get, whether it's been in their for a second or an hour. He's been holding it for about as long as Tenkai's been holding the handle of his sword for that matter. And even though you're using two hands that doesn't exactly mean you're going to over take me. If you start this demo at :40 seconds you'll see that the kusarigama wielder block his two armed opponent pretty cleanly. I'm not saying to take the video verbatim, the strength behind his swing is probably debatable, but it does look pretty hard. For what it's worth I've trained in karate (same style as in the video actually) for a number of years, and have used a kama personally. Blocking the sword swing like that is an actual move( more or less.) I think we should also factor Elliot's enhanced strength as well. Like I said it wouldn't stop it perfectly, but it would stop it no less. Close only counts in hand grenades as they say...)

So Tenkai was pushing against our boy Ell. To have any kind of force with something like that, one had to have their feet firmly on the ground. In other words not going anywhere, or at least not quickly.

Elliot's left hand wasn't the only one that had switched weapons.

As he stepped, his right would move to the ninjato sheathed at his left hip. Then... "SCHWOP"

He would draw the blade, swiping at Tenkai's knees, still planted if not just moving, splitting at least one of them and ending his mobility for the match. Or so Pope hoped. With Tenkai's hands locked in his push, a block or counter didn't seem likely.

Tenkai had tried to push Elliot over, but unless he was the hulk, or at least really friggin' strong this wouldn't work. Elliot's step and attack would be as on motion. If Tenkai was sticking around to push, he was gonna get it. Of course even if he didn't stick around he was probably still gonna get it, unless he could manage to get both his knees away. Not only that but El was stepping towards Tenkai, meaning his push would have to contend with Elliot's arm strength plus his body weight in order to tip him. If that where to be done it would take some time as the battled it out, during which time Elliot would have...well, you know.

(I'm really scatter-brain right now, like I said in the absence thread. I think I burnt myself out explaining the OOC from my last post. If any Qs you know what to do. Sorry and thanks for your patience btw)

(( x_x This is the third time I have to redo this post. Damn Gaia keeps eating it.

I can understand what you're saying, as I've taken karate myself. But kama positioning has a lot to do with that, too. And blocking a bokken with a kama 1-handed in a demonstration is a bit of a different case than blocking an enhanced sword swing 1-handed with a kama you've only just recently regained your grip on and stopping it completely. >.< There needs to be a tit-for-tat.

I'm also confused on why pulling a kama back to the rightcauses it to swing to your left. .. But I shouldn't be arguing this. I'll have to roll with this, though there's not really much I can do since your attack happened in the middle of your last post's time frame. xx))

I should have made it more specific that I'm pushing away from him in the opposite direction of my push, towards my right. If I was just backing up, my parry wouldn't be as effective and I'd be in the line of attack. It doesn't matter TOO much considering one thing, but....err....I'll just post.))

Tenkai wasn't exactly sure if he managed to put Elliot off balance for the moment, but he wasn't going to stay in range to find out if he had. He pushed off with his parry to get out of Elliot's line, hoping to--

!

That was when Elliot's ninjato came in.

All Tenkai could make out of Elliot's draw was the sharp sensation of danger in the back of his head as he reached for his hilt. Tenkai was lucky to have pushed off with his parry, as the straightness of the ninja-to gave it's initial arc a straight path. But if it was short enough to be properly used for iai, Tenkai wouldn't make it clear of the arc in time...

CSHING!

Fortunately for Tenkai, there was no sound of rending flesh or splitting kneecaps. The blade grazed and scraped against Tenkai's right knee armor, saving him from immobility. The blade would pass by and miss the left as he moved back, and although Elliot retained his balance, Tenkai's parry combined with his creation of distance would buy him at least a bit of time.

But now what could Tenkai do? There he was, down on his right knee, eyes recovering from the flash. By now, Elliot would be just about resuming his position to attack, as Tenkai was out of the line of attack about six feet away. The monk needed to think of something fast.

Of course, Muramasa's bickering gave him an idea.

With a swift motion of his left hand, Tenkai ran his left palm down the blunt side of the blade towards the tip. As his hand passed by, the blade lit up in a wreath of blue fire. At first it'd look like this was some sort of elemental attack, but "fire" could only describe appearances. He was focusing his spiritual pressure into the blade, and it was the first clear display of special ability Tenkai had shown in this tournament. Tenkai's Fuujinzan had been interrupted, and even if it wasn't it wouldn't be as bright as the spirit fire dancing off of Muramasa.

The crowd bustled slightly at this turn of events. Just what was Tenkai planning anyway?
