Brendyn felt the man's hand grab his own. It was obviously a quick, instinctive reaction, and not a bad one at all.
I can work with this.
As he completed the twist and tossed the man out over the net, he was pulled right along with him. Rather than trying to let go as he had originally intended, now that his hand was caught, he redoubled his grip and held on as he followed his opponent toward the net. As his feet left the ground, he slammed his dagger into its sheath; he didn't want to lose it as they spun and fell, and he expected to need both hands for what came next. Brendyn was ready to cast a spell, but he waited. His timing would have to be perfect. He was being pulled behind his opponent, facing him, so that he had a clear view as the psion was about to hit the net, and it was at that moment that he shouted a single syllable.

Feather Fall

Cast during a fall with a single magical syllable, Brendyn floats to the ground and lands unharmed.
Brendyn's arm would suddenly be pulled taught as the force of the spell resisted his fall. Rather than slam to the chain, he began to descend more slowly even as Damon fell into it, landing on his back. Brendyn bent his own arm, the one that was both grappling and grappled, and hauled backwards. The slow fall gave him the time to adjust the course of his descent using his arm as leverage, hopefully before Damon had recovered from the landing, so that he was landing practically on top of the psion instead. He brought his knees down on top of Damon's, which ended the spell as he "landed" and the rest of his body dropped into place atop him. He kept Damon's arm pinned out to the side, and his own shins atop Damon's thighs.
As soon as Brendyn had pulled himself toward Damon out of their fall, he had also begun speaking the words to another spell. It was a Beguiling spell, one of the ones that actually took a short measure of time and effort to cast, so that he only completed the last syllable of the incantation as he was actually dropping onto Damon. He had one limb remaining as he was attempting to keep Damon's legs pressed to the net with his own, and their hands were locked away to the side. Rather than try to control Damon's other hand as well, he brought his right palm straight down at Damon's chest, discharging the spell he had cast.

~Initial~ - The target suddenly finds that they feel exhausted for ten seconds. Their limbs feel heavy, their reactions slow, and they lose focus on their immediate surroundings.
If he could hit, Damon would immediately feel exhausted and have a harder time trying to physically overpower or mentally outmaneuver Brendyn, who was still operating at his peak save for the pain in his side, which he was mentally blocking out for the moment. He would keep his hand where it was and continue discharging the spell, allowing it to resonate and grow in power, unless Damon did something that required him to change plans.
