Roen's attitude, the way he moved, his expression, the way he checked on Lucind, positioned his sword - it was all lost upon her. Even most of his words.
Not because she wanted to be rude. And the gods knew she was anything but deaf. But - she was worried, still worried sick about the books. The precious, precious books. One of her enlarged ears filtered the reactions of the people standing right around her, when the Siren moved away from Athan towards one of the tables to lift a nice lamp standing right on it: she wanted to study its beautiful green glass shade to find out who the manufacturer was - the library section in her store could do with new lamps.
However, all the while, she wouldn't stop mumbling things about important items of knowledge, fragments of highest significance and legendary pieces of literature that needed to be saved from brutal cretins. But where should she start?! Especially once meta powers would be used!
Finally, she reacted to Roen accepting her challenge. The last thing still ringing in her mind was: "What do you say, kid." Without looking up, the Siren slowly started walking into the direction he was suggesting, answering him with a, "Okay gramps, let's do it."
By the way, since the woman still hadn't been able to find a logo or engraving or any sign revealing where the desk lamp had been produced, she simply took it with her, after absent-mindedly ripping of the restraining cable.
Then, the Siren stopped.
The Romance section was what Roen had picked.
She blinked.
No, she hadn't become aware of his corny choice - but of a few of the copies standing there: her lips started quivering, as did her hands clutching the lamp. Master pieces. Rare copies. She knew some of those, either from her last visit years ago or from online photos and articles.
"No...no, that's not right, they have to take them out of here...how could they...or are they extremely well made fakes.....facsimiles?" And while her mumbling just became more intense, the air in front of her chest, especially around her arms, became all blurry; the fabric of her coat was prest against her body and single strands of Lucind's dark hair started dancing when sound waves accumulated just at the aforementioned areas: a compacted baby storm that wasn't really one, evoked by her words alone. It made the lamp's glass vibrate painfully, the whole lamp eager to escape her tight grip.
Finally, Lucind swirled around to face Roen, panic in her eyes, exclaiming:
"We can't do this! The books...!"
In the very second she called out, the lamp's shade exploded and, caught, accelerated and directed by the bundled sound waves, a load of shards was catapulted at Roen, mainly towards the upper part of his body.
She blinked again, as if realizing what she had done.
"Ah...sorry. But...you see...these are valuable copies.
I'm sorry."
It had the be mentioned, however, that those sharp pieces of glass had been headed for Roen, and for him alone.
Still, he was met with confused, huge amber eyes.
"I really am."
