THE CITY OF STRATA

LOCATION - DESCRIPTION - ARCHITECTURE - PROMINENT BUILDINGS/SIGHTS

THE UNDERGROUND - ROADS AND PLACES - HISTORY

Ancient port of the Barthavos Desert, located near the southernmost point of the Gaian Continent, nowadays one of the major cities in Gaia. Founded by refugees from the ravages of war. Infamous for its crime but well known for its large harbour and trade district. Though certain conflicts have caused a decline of Strata's former importance and wealth, it is still a magnificent sight. Coming from the sea and arriving in the harbour or from the desert entering through the grand Northern Portal every visitor agrees that in front of his eyes lies the "Beauty of the South".

The dry heat presses down on the town. The air is shimmering in the brilliant light of the air. The hot winds coming out of Barthavos carry a fine sand which covers everything with a fine layer. But on the bottom of the canyon the tall houses are forming, the shade is deep, the wind cut out and life is possible. Archways border the broader roads and precious trees give shade to those who have to follow their affairs during the heat of the day. But those are not two many. The town comes to life when the sun is sinking into the sea far in the west and the winds are ceasing to blow, lamps are lit all over the main places and roads, and the times for business other than that during the day has arrived. The traveller is advised to avoid the darker sideways and hopefully he knows already where to put his head in the night. But which newcomer to Strata can withstand the market down at the harbour, where goods from all over the world can be looked at - or even bought. Or the colourful places all over the town, where shops are lined up, in between taverns of all kinds and where you find musicians at every corner who compete with each other.

  • Location:

The southernmost point of the Gaian continent, Cape Strata, is a flat rocky region which is covered by a thick layer of sands which gets thinner the further south you travel. While the rocky underground is still quite dense near the Mesa's, which are a two days travel north of Strata, it contains a lot of caverns near Strata. These flat rocks elevate near the southern tip just a few, maybe six feet over the sea level when the tide is high, farther north in the town it has raised already to about 10 to 17 feet. Strata slightly rising from south to north and from east to west allows therefore a magnificent view for those ships coming from other parts wanting to sell their goods in the harbour near the north-east side of the town. Due to the water currents of the sea, Strata has only few beaches or sandbanks. One is near the southern point, the other north of Strata on the eastern side.

Description:

People are arguing about which approach to Strata is the more splendid one, coming from the desert and looking onto the town stretched beneath ones feet, framed by the blue sea, or approaching by ship sailing along the front of beautiful houses lit by the sinking sunset, or - entering the harbour in the east in full sight of the town, preferably when the sun just rose above the horizon.

The Approach from the East

Few travellers endure the hardness and dangers of a voyage through the Barthavos, most arrive by ship. Arriving in the morning and approaching Strata slowly, travellers see a town lying before their eyes which just seems to have arose from a tale told by the elders or a distant myth:

Built on the very edge of the headland of the Gaian continent, it takes the whole space of the hook. The land is slightly rising from south to north, and even a bit more from east to west, so the view is just fantastic. Tall houses in the colour of the sun, from a light yellow, over a deep Strata orange to a dark red are standing side by side, framed and divided with a splendid white colour. Down at the old harbour side are some bigger houses used for storing the valuable goods coming from Northern Gaia. A broad road is leading from the old harbour straight to the western end of the town, passing the great harbour gate and the town wall and running through the central market, around the famous giant Dar'ii Tree. On the left edge the splendid Temple of Water draws the eye towards it just sitting on an small island outside the town wall, which runs around the town just behind the houses belonging to the harbour quarters. The city wall is another prominent feature of the town, and though it is of strong built and was never torn down, it doesnt look threatening. The light yellow of the stones gives it a friendly touch, though the pointed pinnacles demonstrate the ability to protect its citizens. On the other, northern side, outside the town, the magnificent, pure white, round temple of Falis is greeting the traveller with its golden shining spherical roof and its three tall, slender towers.

Few of the arriving ships call at the old harbour which was destroyed during a big flood and only partly reconstructed, most moor in the new harbour outside the town in the northwest of Strata.

There, down the beach in northwestern direction near the new harbour, a very tall, huge lighthouse is standing. It doesnt fit very well to the whole town of Strata, and the fascinated visitor soon averts his eyes and concentrates on Strata again.

The houses in their beauty and variety are enough to astonish the foreign visitor, but what catches his eyes most are not the splendid buildings, but the green in between, where you didnt expect it. Strata is know for selling fresh water as one of the valuable goods here . Water is a resource which is rare and therefore restricted for everybody, even the rich ones. And so the trees which grow everywhere in the town are valuable and very cared for. The mightiest and oldest tree is the Dar'ii tree in the middle of the famous Stratanian market place, but there are rows of other trees running down in the middle of every of the main four roads, each tree belonging to a certain house of which it is cared for. And every house itself, most of them build in a rectangular way with a inner courtyard, has its own tree in the middle of the house. This is the way the Stratanian's can survive in the heat of a summer day, when a hot dry wind is blowing either from the southeast or coming out of the Barthavos.

As the ships comes nearer, more details can be seen. The white colour on the houses turn out to be complicated white ornaments and white shutters in front of the plenty windows, with balconies and porches the houses try to surpass each other. The trees show more of their gracile beauty and the promise of a cooling shade, and suddenly the traveller cant wait to set his foot on the landing docks of the "Beauty of the South".

The Approach from the North

Coming from the north the town promises relief after the heat of the day, the green of the trees are balsam on the tortured eyes, the air seems to be cooler now and the ears longs for the sound of running water. Like a coloured jewel lying on blue-green silk it matches the sea which surrounds it here by all other sides. The beautiful Northern Gate, ornamented with blue shining tiles, welcomes the traveller.

Architecture:

The houses in Strata are up to seven, eight stories high and built out of dried clay bricks.

The wall is covered with plaster out of the same, fresh material and coloured while the plaster is still fresh. The Strata orange is the most seen colour, but yellow and the red are common as well. Few houses have a pale blue, but this is a new habit and the Stratanians still dont know if they like it or not. So far this colour was only used for the temple of Water or for interiors and seeing it on the outside of a house divides the citizens.

Though the houses would look great, tall and slender as they are, built together or standing close with only small lanes between them, they get their characteristics from the ornamentations running like a baize around the bottom of each story and around the plenty windows which are the pride of every owner of a house. Each of this ornamentations is built from the plaster the wall is covered with and highlighted and enriched with the brightest white colour available in the south.

The roof and the upper story is painted with a white chalk mixed with a binding agent which protects the claybricks and plaster from the wind, the burning sun and a very rarely rainfall.

The windows are mostly small, but high, sometimes stretching from the bottom to the ceiling. The upper part is often curved. Sometimes they are divided in a lower part with shutteres which can be closed or opened, the upper, curved part which can not be opened. A very thin sliced special stone which allows the light to penetrate sometimes covers this openings. But big pieces are very fragile, and so small pieces are set in a framework creating a special look to these windows. To guard the windows, they have small gracile balconies in front of them, delicately build out of the same material as the houses themselves.

To shut out the early heat of the sun in the morning, every window has white painted shutters which allow the air of the western sea to bring a cooling breeze to the interior of the houses, in the middle of the day however they can be closed to prevent the hot air coming in. Some noble houses have imported glass in their windows, but it is often blind due to the sand carried by the desert winds into Strata which finds its way into every c***k.

The roofs are flat, surrounded by a wall to prevent people from falling off. In the late evenings, when the air is pleasant, the winds have ceased and the tasks of the day are done they are the meeting place of the families and their guest, from neighbours and friends.

There are two different types of houses in Strata:

One is the common rectangular house with an inner courtyard. The rooms are mainly oriented to this courtyard, except the rooms which are facing the main road. In these courtyards the pride of the family has its place, the shade giving tree, in most cases a darii tree.

The other type of house is found mainly in the Eastern Lane. The houses built directly on the town wall and facing the western sea dont have an inner courtyard, but are built simply rectangular with the rooms facing either the sea or the road. These families set their pride in a "high garden" and care for a diversity of plants which they grow on the roof.

All houses on the main four roads have archways at the bottom level, each house connected with its neighbors, so that walking in the shade is possible. The same is to find at the houses standing around one of the various markets of Strata.

2Oncle Roen

Location: Strata Rooftops.

Time: The evening after Round Two's conclusion.

People clean up fast, thought the Devil as he surveyed the rooftops upon which his team and that of Griffen's did battle only but a few hours ago, noting the cleanliness and lack of rubble. The sun had long since set, and with the beautiful night sky overhead, it made for a very romantic evening. Not that he had any intention of wooing anyone; but he could appreciate the calming effect it had on his mind and body. His ribs hurt from Griffen's rib-shot, and the joints in his ankles and knees along with several minor cuts, scrapes, and bruises from his parachute drop ached him, and he wanted some time to recuperate, and that meant away from the general tournament populace.

Chest rising and falling with a dramatic flare, Roen breathed in and out the most and cool air of the night as it rolled in from the ocean, his eyes drifting from the rooftops laid out before him to instead look towards the great and vast body of water that was as beautiful as it was dangerous. Pursing his lips and favoring the sight with a warm smile, Roen stepped towards the edge of the rooftop and set his foot on the mild barrier before crossing his arms on his upraised knee, admiring the view. And while he admired, he recounted not only his fight with Griffen, yet the other two fights between both Sieg and Edward. Both did well in Roen's eyes, yet Roen would hardly be a good captain at all if he didn't consider the possibility of losing the second round to Jormungandr.

"Mmm..." Raising one hand and running it over his surprisingly smooth face, Roen would enjoy the feeling of the air soothing his very-mildly irritated flesh. Waxing, he concluded, was not worth the pain. Even his chest, exposed as it was with his opened long sleeve shirt, was as smooth as silk after the unimaginable horrors the Devil had went through with the waxing man he went to. Every bit of Roen was smooth, and just because of Bellanox and her jesting at the supposed creature he was wearing underneath his clothes. His pride, though large, was especially vulnerable to those he cared about. As such, as soon as the round ended and after a quick once over by medical officials, he went to go bathe, change, and get waxed.

Dropping his hand down to his chest and running his sword-calloused palms over the smooth surface, Roen would grimace whilst finely defined muscles flexed under his groping touch. Then, a tangent. Griffen had pulled his hair last round! Reaching back up and taking his pony-tail within his hands, the Devil would move it infront of him and run his palm over the silky strands. "..Maybe I should get a haircut, too." He'd say to himself and the supposedly empty night.

3Bellanox Fatalis

Just beyond Roen's line of site leaned Bellanox, posterior and one foot resting casually against the same wall. Recently returned to the rooftops from a jaunt to the Bazaar, she paused, cooling breeze stirring hastily up swept hair as she gazed up at the stars. The sky shone with the tiny pin pricks of billions of stars against a canvas of blackest velvet. Ah but the desert was beautiful at night. Far more so than in the stifling heat of the day. Ugh... It had almost done her in. Even a cool bath at the conclusion of round 2 had left the tall girl feeling slightly gritty. The blanket of night had brought with it a sweet relief.

The sounds of the city below filtered up to the rooftops, but not distractingly so. Certainly not enough to stir one in deep thought. But the sound of exotic music in the distance was enough to stir the Gypsy inside her. The eager girl who relished new sights and the prospect for adventure.

Tearing her eyes from the heavens, she pushed off from her perch, and continued, a small package in her hand and her eyes on Mr. J. Spoiled Devil that he was. A malicious smile curled her lips at the way he flinched when touching his chest. She'd been the the burr under that saddle, so to speak. Served him right for dragging her here to sweat to death watching while he hogged all the action.

The scuffing of her boot against the rooftop right beside Roen would mark her presence. Lips quirking into a smirk, she lifted the smallish paper box package up toward the Devil's face, while her free hand dropped down to bat away any advances from his tail toward the hem of her skirt.

"It was awfully hard to find, but I did it...."

A lemony fragrance would waft upward toward Roen's sensitive nostrils.

"You damn Lemon Pie, your Imperious Majesticness..."

Keeping vigilance over the street corner of 34th and Florance St. was a trash receptacle. Graffiti from local hoodlums adorned its carapace of hardened plastic, immortalizing various racial slurs and the fact that if you wanted a good time, you should call number xxx-2415. It had existed since times unrecorded, yet, it was as if it had never been.

Litter. Everywhere. Wastes of a society so lethargic, that it could not be arsed burning the fifteen extra calories required to throw their eco-unfriendly sandwich wrappers into its welcoming maw. Still, it’s not to say that the bin suffered its existence completely neglected. Some sought o sate its hunger for non-recyclables with their own donations, their disposable offerings to the gods!

However…

There were others.

Those who sought to corrupt the bin’s purity, defile its sanctity with the most uncouth of contrabands! Volatile concoctions of putrid filth had found its way into the bin. Substances unfit for the incinerator, or even a sewer drain! But the bin was strong in its resolved. It would not falter; its hide was as thick as steel plating and just as tough. In spite its plastic lining disintegrated ages ago, having succumbed to its brutal environment, it remained.

Even as the desert winds licked at its sides, stripping away its labeling.

Even as ‘The Collectors’ skipped on their bi-weekly visits.

Even as the ignorant masses filled its belly with contraband-

It. Would. Not. Fall.

Or so it seemed.

Things were not always what they appeared. Even the mightiest of mountains could crumble.

5Oncle Roen

Shutting his deep-set garnet eyes, he too would also hear the exotic music in the distance. A sitar, bongos, and a violin if his ears held true. Lively and upbeat, it brought an even greater smile to Roen's lips. It was fine nights like these, after seeing his fair share of battle and experiencing it at the front lines, that he was able to release the smoldering furnace that burned so hot within his chest, slipping back into what most would consider normal. Not the Darkened Devil, and only Roen, with no dark thoughts on the surface of his mind to make him quick to anger and so prone to fits of rage.

Krch~ He didn't need the scuffing of a boot across the rooftop to know that Bellanox had approached, having grown so accustomed to the gypsy's presence over the past few years that he could practically feel her as if he were some sort of physic. That distinct feminine aroma, the steady gait that brought her to his side, the--well, everything about her was as familiar to him as the back of his hand, and when she was around, he knew it. Felt it. His bodyguard, second-in-command, banter-buddy, responsibility, and most importantly, his closest friend had come. Opening his eyes, another scent would come up to his nose, stirring positive delight from with his belly. So, she had brought him a goody, too!

"Oh." He would say, doing his best to maintain his composure as he slowly lifted his hand to take the package she offered, his tail most certainly lifting up to the hem of her skirt on its own accord and indeed being batted away by her hand as he turned his head to look upon her. "Obliged, Bella." He paused, lifted the package to his nose, and heaved in one deep breath before sighing in absolute pleasure. Yet his eyes would never leave her face, noting the smirk that danced across her lips. Well, didn't she look pleased with herself. One would think she fought tooth and nail for the pie that was now in his possession. Apprehensive, Roen pursed his lips and pulled his foot off the wall before turning around, leaning down to sit his posterior upon the ledge. "Really, thanks."

He chuckled alittle while prying open his package, quickly taking out the box that held the lemon pie before throwing the wrapping over his shoulder and into the streets below. Pie, the pastry of the Gods for sure. Still, he didn't want to eat it just yet. Setting it by his foot and setting his palms beside him, he would lean back and pat the spot beside him, ushering Bellanox to sit beside him. His tail would be out of the way, dropping over the ledge and hanging negligently. "You know, Bella, I don't know if we got lucky or not this year..." Pausing, the Devil would c**k his head back and look upwards toward the stars. "I've been watching the news -- you know how much I love T.V -- and there's something happening; something dangerous. Have you heard anything besides the horror stories coming out of the LADDER bracket?"

6Lord Jackson Beaumont

Griff Morivan has always espoused that he grew up in Dur'em. And it was true. But looking at him, he was obvious that he was either Aekean or Stratan, and from the fight, he revealed his origins. What isn't generally known is that Griff was originally born in Stratan, and then sent off to a friend of his father's, a Knight from Dur'em. Quite in fact, Griff didn't even know he was Stratan until he was already an adult.

So it was weird to be here. He had come to the town three times. Once as a young man, snotty as any Dur'em punk brat, where he met his real father and his real mother, their relationship as a volatile as their love was strong. A strong back and a silver tongue fueled his lechery and addictions to the vices, and her abstinence and implied superiority as a person of her species was enough. They loved each other, but they hated each other. Not above hurting each other, the woman had more than her fair share of beatings, and the man, his share of lashes. But for ever strike, their embrace was as powerful and as spontaneous. Griff looked at it as an adult through cynical eyes, them both as fools. Regardless, with them, he was Strata Bound.

His Father, Jaze, was a smithy, particularly of fine armors, which he would typically sell in Strata, except for a specific line of custom armors, which were embedded with the blessing of Eirmehz, a granting only a priest of priestess of the temple could do. There is where Jaze and A'ille worked together. It was also with these fine armors that Jaze made strong friends with one Challen Morivan, head of the Morivan line of Knights that raised Griff. Jaze wanted his first born son to be a success in the bigger world of Gaia, and Dur'em was the place to start.

Now, while Challen himself adopted the sword skills of the Orient, both of his sons, Thomas and Jack, favored that of the Paladin and Death Knight. a sibling rivalry that would do more than separate the brothers, but would eventually drive the Holy Aligned and viciously jealous Thomas to arrange for Jack to be sent to war. With his brother dispatched to quell the fighting of Aekea vs the rampant machines they had created, the Paladin would poison Challen, and take the throne as head of the Morivan name. Of course, Jack and Griff, then seventeen, would see to it that Thomas got just what he deserved, even at the cost of the Death Knight's life. This left Griff. Nothing to guide him through the world, he would track down his origins that he discovered only after the passing of everyone he'd grown to know as his family. The bloodline lead him first to Aekea, and then to Strata. He learned of his true parents, and made quick enemies with Jaze, the man who ruined his mother's life, and sent him into the bickering, squabbling world of Gaia major. Too much of a Dur'emite to return to Strata, he was rejected by both new and old homes. His bond to the city became strong with his mother. And despite Jaze and A'ille having never wed, Griff met his sisters.

Just as opposed and different from one another as Thomas and Jack, Sallena and Rose grew in the same home, taking after their mother's affinity toward the arcane arts. But where the Brothers Morivan became the death of one another, the Daughters of A'ille became known in the Desert Caravans as those who made some of the convoys. Between Sallena's love of the curative magics reserved for the transient salesmen and Rose's control over the dark arts to ward off and destroy monsters and thieves, the Caravans became quite the safe endeavor. They were even known for taking their dear sweet time with particularly foolhardy brigands who would make a pass at the goods, healing and decimating them over and again. As an example.

And it turned out that the sisters were in town on the day Griff came to Strata, his fight against Roen being quite the talk of the town. Partially because of the fact that Griff had a massive steel arm, but because some knew who he was, who he was related to. The three reunited, as they did from time to time, though usually on the other end of the Desert Sea. They complimented him on his performance, cautioned him not to overwork himself, but didn't have time to meet him for dinner or anything, having to head to Aekea. The irony, Griff lamented, as he looked out to the desert. It seemed he couldn't avoid the inevitable. He'd dodged it for a number of years now, but it seemed that tonight was the night. He decided to visit his parents.

The second round of the tournament had ended, the decisions by the judges were impending and yet the small woman in the red sari moved through the market as if she didn’t have a care in the world. It did not matter to her who moved on and who fell by the way side, although she was looking for a few things in the market that could be of use to those who were injured in the last round.

In dark red satin with black beading, and a long red crepe veil covering her hair and a wispy black shawl in georgette with tiny red beads and bits of amethyst sparkling in the pattern she was defiantly overdressed for the market, but she could have blended in if the veil and shawl had been of a heavier material than the sheer crepe and georgette… but that would have been far too boring.

She had a simple woven basket over her arm, gold bangles on her wrists and tiny silver bells around her ankles, hidden under her long skirt as she drifted along the market chimed softly. At a stand with an old fashioned set of curtains and bunches of dried herbs dangling from the wooden rafters above she stopped and looked over the selection, ignoring the tall shop keeper as he chattered at her about his wares.

She had a journey to prepare for….

8Master Nemesis

"Sigh . . ."

Sabrina leaned back in her wicker chair, making it creak in protest as she balanced it on its back legs, resting her sock-covered feet on the wooden railing in front of her. She sat out on the balcony of her hotel room, in a place called the Orange Rose. Her and the rest of her team had been put up here for the night, with the apparent explanation that a sandstorm passing to the North of Strata had prevented them from being flown back to Latent, late this afternoon. The Foundation had apparently forked out the cash to put them up somewhere nice until sometime tomorrow, which was when she'd been told the storm was supposed to pass.

Of course, just like the housing accommodations back at the Hawk, none of them wanted to take much advantage of it. The other three didn't like the thought of being cooped up in a hotel room for the entire night. Sutii, cheerful and optimistic as always, had chosen to go and get what he considered an early start on imminent celebrations for their victory. Fayble expressed her nightly desire to drink herself under the table, and Griff had simply muttered something about visiting relatives before wandering off by himself. Sore in more places than she cared to count, the youngest teammate was left behind to recuperate, with their promises (or in Griff's case, a grunt) that all of them would be back in time to leave the following day.

Thinking about the sandstorm that had grounded them, Sabrina smirked as she mused to herself that Jörmungandr probably wouldn't let itself be stopped by something as trivial as a crashed plane. Well, her teammates wouldn't, anyway. They were strong, after all, while Sabrina . . .

With that cheerful little thought, her humor sank as quickly as it had surfaced.

The moon, a breathtaking shade of pale amber in the desert air, inched slowly up from the horizon against a tapestry of indigo sky and diamond-like stars. It was a sight that would have left most awestruck with wonder so powerful it made the heart ache, but this young woman barely noticed as she allowed herself to be mired in depressing thoughts.

The rest of her team had done well today, even if they hadn't managed to gain a decisive advantage over their respective opponents. Sutii had managed to go toe-to-toe and hand-to-hand with Sieg, a man renowned for his overwhelming martial arts prowess, and hold his own for quite some time (even if the kick to the softies once the weapons had come out had been a tad . . . humbling). Fayble, even stuck on the sidelines and only able to enter the fray for ten-second intervals, had distinguished herself beautifully (she put a particularly savory mental emphasis on this last adjective). And Griff . . . huh, as if anything needed to be said about their illustrious Captain's showing in combat this day.

'And what about ?' inquiring minds (namely, her own) asked. Well, she'd let her emotions and arrogance blind her to some fairly obvious counterattacks, nearly received a boot to the head from a Devil with a taste for overly dramatic and ill-planned entrances, come that close to being beaten into a coma before it had been necessary for Fayble to step in with a last-second save, and had been left with mottled bruises and sore muscles everywhere. And if that wasn't bad enough, she'd used up all of the special healing ointment that the HoH medical staff had given her at the end of the first round on her previous set of injuries.

For that matter, one had to wonder what exactly set her apart, made her special, that she deserved to be a part of the team, and the tournament as a whole. Griff was tough, dangerous, famous, and in a word, cool. Fayble was beautiful, unpredictable, refused to take s**t from anyone, and downright amazing. Meanwhile, Sutii was a great guy with an odd, yet effective sense of humor, roguish (in his own dorky way), deviously clever, and a lot like the older brother she sometimes wished she had. Sabrina had none of these qualities, at least not in the amounts that they did. She was an ordinary person, who just happened to have a taste and talent for violence, but so did everyone else who entered this tournament, in spades. Yeah, so she had magical WOOWOO dirt powers, but that hardly set her apart as a citizen of Gaia.

"You have drive!" some people might have said. "Determination! A desire to succeed above all else!" Pffffffffft. So had that b***h from the first round who had kept calling Sabrina Shamu, and look at how well that worked out for her.

The young woman could fool herself into thinking she belonged here sometimes, but deep down, she knew she was just a chubby kid trying to prove how grown-up she was, nothing special at all.

Not for the first time, she thought back to the night she'd been recruited, wondering why they'd bothered to approach her . . .

FLASHBACK

The compress stung at first, but eventually felt good against her shoulder. She could feel the cold seeping in and soothing the throbbing heat of the cut, a sensation she was grateful for. Couldn't say the same about the hard Durem sidewalk beneath her bum, though, but it was the only place to sit on the whole street. The place she was staying at was still a couple of blocks away, and because her head had been feeling a little light, she decided she would take a short rest before completing the journey. She ignored stares from the occasional passing pedestrian.

As she waited and recuperated, she thought back to the incident of the day before that had caused her this injury and the particularly . . . interesting person she had met . . .

FLASHBACK WITHIN A FLASHBACK

. . . . .

ERROR CODE: 0259762

"Captain! I cannae do eet! We don't have tha litheeoom crys-- I mean, thee Itahliks cannae go that far, sir!"

. . . . .

END FLASHBACK WITHIN A FLASHBACK

Soon, the young Miss Miles decided she felt better, and replaced the compress inside her little grocery bag before climbing back to her feet. After pulling the collar of her shirt open a bit to inspect the bandage beneath and make sure she hadn't started bleeding, Sabrina continued on her way.

Sometime later, she rounded a corner on to the street where her was apartment was located . . . and spotted one silhouette, perhaps two (it was hard to tell at this time of night), standing and waiting near the steps leading up to her tiny apartment.

It was certainly possible they were just (a) harmless individual(s) looking to sell something, or they had the wrong address, or they were simply hanging out. However, after the tangle she'd gotten involved in the previous day, the threats one of those guys had directed at her as they'd been hauled off, and the general suspicion a girl who'd lived most of her life in a rural academy harbored after hearing dozens of stories about the Big Peach, she was understandably wary.

Trying to look as nonchalant as possible (despite her churning stomach) and keep whoever it was standing there thinking she was unprepared, Sabrina kept marching confidently towards the shadowy smudge(s). The handles of her shopping bag and been pushed back on to her wrist, and her good, right hand hovered near one of the tonfa on her belt. Approaching the stairs, she kept her eyes focused and trie to get an idea of who it was.

"You owe me three fitty for that..." She grumbled in mock irritation as she watched Roen sit.

One eyebrow piqued as she watched him open his pie with astonishingly childlike delight. How nauseatingly sweet and yet so amusing all at once. But as he'd said on many previous occasions, Roen did love him some pie. That explains a lot... she mused internally as she accepted his invitation to sit.

Crouching down, she lightly plopped her behind down on the edge of the sand covered rooftop, boots again scuffing sand as she casually dropped her feet down to dangle over the side.

Pausing, the Devil would c**k his head back and look upwards toward the stars. "I've been watching the news -- you know how much I love T.V -- and there's something happening; something dangerous. Have you heard anything besides the horror stories coming out of the LADDER bracket?"

"I try my best to steer clear of the loonies that infest HoH every year and I don't vatch the idiot box unless you make me, so...."

Truth was, Nox had become complacent here of late. With the exception of the television chopping fit she'd thrown back in the Cannon Fodder suite before the second round. How easy it had been to just let Roen take the lead and dictate her path. No thought required, really.

"No, I haven't heard a thingk. Not evfen the Horror stories. Time to take the blinders off, andt prepare for impendingk doom, eh?"

Yes. she had been content being The Devil's Minion and doing the devil's business with no mind to even watch what was going on around her. That travesty would surely have to change! It was definitely time to wake up from the fog she had been lounging in and recapture her thirst for real adventure.

She leaned back, one hand resting on the sandy rooftop to support her upper body, torso twisted so that she was at least marginally facing her mentor, Eyes of cool jade locked upon his clean shaven face, her expression serious.

"Tell me vhat you havfe heard. Perhaps I can help you make heads or tails from these 'horror stories'." Her expression then took on a faintly amused appearance. "Who knows... Betveen the two of us, maybe ve can savfe the vorld from total annihilation."

The Flashback contained two individuals indeed. The smaller one was a beautiful young lady, the second coming into sharper focus as Sabrina drew closer to them, a rather intimidating individual. While the two of them had determined it may be best to have the young lady approach her. But it was obvious she intended to move away.

"Young Miss." His voice chimed through the darkness.

11Abyssal Majesty

And so the young lady approached Sabrina indeed. In was none other than Fayble Eria, the very lady that helped the lass when she was in need only the day before. Why she was there that evening was for an entirely different reason.

"How's the cut doing?"

She asked rather bluntly as she tucked her thumbs under her the hem of her pants. She was sure Sabrina would know who she was, well at least she hoped she would. Managing a particularly easy going smile, Fayble nodded at the girl as a quick little gesture of hello. Even if she answered Fay would continue to talk.

"Don't mind my friend here, he's just a scary teddy bear."

12Master Nemesis

When Sabrina approached, and saw it was Fayble, the woman who had helped her, she smiled. She hadn't been expecting to see her again. What a pleasant surprise!

Then she saw Griff, and her smile fell a little at the sight of this eypatch-wearing, lean, mean-lookin' guy lurking right behind her. The way he was looking at her, it was . . . well, it wasn't a glare, but it certainly had the intensity of one. When he greeted her, she nodded once in acknowledgment, and her hand twitched toward the weapon on her belt.

She realized Fayble had asked her a question, and tore her attention away from this guy to answer. "Um, it's okay," she smiled a little halfheartedly, reluctantly recalling the shock and pain she had felt when she'd been stabbed. Then the purple-haired beauty told the young girl that her kinda scary/creepy companion was no threat.

"Ah, um, okay," she said, her gaze flickering back to him briefly. "So . . . how did you find me here? I mean, s'not like I left you a card with my address on it."

13Lord Jackson Beaumont

The short answer, of course, is that extraordinary people are much easier to find than the average ones. It was far from impossible to track the dear girl down, and once they did, Griff and Fayble made their move. But Morivan gestured to his partner to make the move, his hand grasping into his coat to draw a cigar.

14Abyssal Majesty

Drawing her calm yellow eyes from Griff as he gestured the go ahead, Fayble took her hands from her belt and lazily let them rest on her hips. They meant no threat and shortly Sabrina would learn of it, hopefully then, she'd relax. With a knowing grin, Fay started.

"Anyway, we don't mean to spook you or anything. So chill out. We're here to invite you to join our team for a fighting tournament." Well that was sorta out of the blue. "I guess I should explain a bit. Bucko here is the captain, I'm vice. It's called Heaven or Hell, if I remember correctly we need four members. Based on what I saw yesterday, I want you on it." Blunt. With a shrug Fayble shifted her position. "I think you got what it takes. And I just want to do something different. What do you say?" She smirked. "You'll get to beat punks down."

Pursing her lips, Fayble swiped at her nose and sniffled a bit as she awaited Sabrina's answer. Which was rude, considering they: A- Had just met and B- Fay just vomited a big question onto the lass' lap.

This one had to e crazy

That was likely the thought of the man milling about the cities northern gate as the lone traveler made his way in from the blazing heat of the desert, pulling down the...tarp? Yeah, his traveling cloak seemed to be made of a battered blue tarpaulin tied off with a bit of rope, from his face. It might have been a familiar face to some, as the traveler was none other than Alphonse Rudrough, a competitor from both Heaven or Hell tournaments past. Why he was wearing a tarp, or more importantly, why a man of his age had -walked- into the port town was to remain a mystery to our befuddled bystander as Alphonse simply whipped off his tarp and dumped it upon the man as he walked by.

"Hey! What the hell do yo-" shouted the man, taking two or three steps to start after him before Alphonse took off cackling.

"Take care of it sonny, I'll be back for it in the futureeeeeeeeeeee" and that was all before he tottered off around the corner of the nearest house, disappearing from sight. The poor bystander was hopelessly confused and begun to fold up his unexpectedly acquired tarp cape.

-Sometime later, The Market of Strata-

Browsing the booths of the port Town Alphonse seemed content to shoot the breeze with the many merchants, occasionally trying to accost a particularly young one into giving him something for free based upon his age. Only one young girl buckled and gave him an Orange, which he happily peeled and munched on as he went. He had been wearing his Bomber jacket, much to the apparent dismay of many of the citizens of the city, whom frequently questioned him outright or whispered words of madness and insanity as he passed, and they might not have been too far off. A leather bomber jacket, jeans, all the trappings of a more moderate climate out here in the heat, but old Alphonse did not mind. He never seemed to mind much anymore, really, and it remained a mystery as to why. Maybe he was mad and had gone off his rocker long ago, or maybe there was some hidden method to his madness. Nobody around town had the courage to ask him why, so he continued to browse around lackadaisically.

16HonoRaven

Perhaps there was someone who was willing to ask Alphonse, but then again the short woman in her red and black get-up looked just as out of place as the man in the leather jacket did. "Aren't you a little warm?"

With her basket on the one arm, laden now with jars and packets of herbs, and the edge of her sheer black shawl in her free hand she likely didn't look very threatening, her hair was partial hidden under the veil and the only strange thing about her really was her pale skin and her chaotic orange eyes. Her smile was friendly, even though there was a hint of concern to her tone... some people didn't understand how dangerous the heat could really be.

"Tournament?" she parroted, caught off-guard. Her hand dropped away from her tonfa.

Fayble was interrupted by the sound of Sabrina's little bag of groceries hitting the sidewalk.

"He- Heaven or Hell?" she stuttered. "THE Heaven or Hell?" She looked like a fish, the way her eyes bugged out and her mouth flapping open and closed silently. She could fondly remember, back at the Academy, where the only televisions she had access to were in the common rooms. They weren't supposed to be able to get Pay-Per-View, but somehow, someone always got it set up to watch HoH, every year. Dozens of students, jostling amongst one another for a better position to see the screen, the collective gasps when someone set off an impressive burst of magic or landed a painful-looking blow, the deafening cheers when someone managed to score a victory. Sabrina had always been right there at the front, greedily absorbing each visual detail and wondering what it was like to be so . . . incredible . . .

Sabrina leaned heavily against the brick wall of the building next to them, staring at the sidewalk. She was just so incapable of processing this sudden request, she said nothing.

Didn't last for long, though, because she was abruptly springing off the wall again, directing her finger suddenly and dramatically at Griff. Her eyes were wide as dinner plates. "I remember you now!" she blurted out. "Last year . . . with the . . ." She made a punching motion ". . . and . . . and . . ." She waved her arms about wildly, apparently having some sort of epileptic seizure, though really she just seemed to be attempting some sort of reenactment.

"That was . . . I . . . it . . ." She couldn't seem to find the necessary adjectives, though, and so just sighed heavily with a "Hwoof", and adopted an expression that was half amazement, half exasperation.

Momentarily starstruck, it seemed she had forgotten, briefly, what she'd just been asked.

He nodded, stepping forward as he rolled his sleeve up over his right arm. "Yep, gorram thing got cut right off, had to get her replaced." He said with a grin, the steel arm glistening in the dim light.

Morivan looked to Fayble before Sabrina again. "The fact of the matter is, we need another member, and we're fairly certain you're just the one for the job."

Ship Deck; The Purple Garden - Early Morning

Aleksander rode each wave, his feet thoughtlessly adjusting to each passing shift with little warrant. His cloaked form barely visible on the nearly empty deck, his wood colored cloak covering most of his body. The morning sun just cresting the brilliant town just a few miles off from where the ship was sailing, taking a parallel path along the city toward the far dock.

The Purple Garden; an old Ship. Though it had sails and was made of wood, looking all the ancient beauty it was; it in fact ran on a powerful engine stored below, nearly silent in the beautiful sea.

The ship was aptly named, its deck housing its own Garden near the stern. Only purple flowers made there life on this mobile garden, and each species was totally unique to the one next to it. Tending to that garden was the Captain, one Cylia Mayra, a woman born of the Desert.

Her skin was dark, and she wore the attire or a rich individual, if not a bit eccentric for such a modern world as Gaia. Heavy but form fitting robes covered most of her curvy body, a deep royal purple. Around her was a traditional head-dress of her people, though modified to show her features more clearly. It also was the beautiful purple, all of it lined in a brilliant white.

Aleksander approached this woman, silent as a mouse with his steps.

"Miss Mayra."

He called to her, the woman's head peering back at him.

"What can I do for you, Alek?"

Aleksander bowed his head slightly, shifting his right hand slightly allowing the large wrapped spear in his hand to bend with his movement. The spear stood at six feet, being slightly taller then Aleksander himself. It was wrapped in a brown cloth, tightly hidden and protected from the weather.

"I would like to thank you for the trip, I could have never made it without you."

His voice was soft, nearly melodic in nature. His words were filled with sincerity and though they held a commanding note to there style it was clear he was not insulting her. She had allowed him passage on her boat, in return for delivering a package to a Hotel known as The Crimson Hawk.

As luck would have it, Alek was likely headed there. For he was in these lands, he was in Gaia itself in search of one thing. Kong Jing Mao, the The Fiend of the West. A Chinese Warrior with blonde hair and of massive stature, once proficient with the sword and his immortal rival.

They had fought on two occasions, and both times Kong won by using villagers or innocents as bait to lure him into a disadvantageous position. He was a Fiend of the highest caliber, and Alek had spent the last four years of his life hunting this man.

Alek was from 17th Century Prussia, a well known Spear Fighter in his land Kong has traveled from China to battle strong warriors, and they inevitably cross paths. There first battle ended in a stalemate, to which Kong eventually took hostages and escaped.

With the knowledge that Kong had traveled to some alternate dimension, Alek wished nothing more then to follow him; and follow he did. While Kong had sacrificed his own family for power, Alek bargained with a strange entity with no name and just a voice.

The voice sent him to Gaia, and told him where Kong could be found. Either a junkyard in Durem, or in certain times of the year in this area. Fighting in a prestigious tournament in Gaia. He was also given two descriptions of the man, a brainless zombie or a large and powerful blonde man wearing a metal mask and wearing a leather jacket.

The ship docked as Alek was lost in these thoughts, and as it did much of the cargo was off lifted and he was given the package, a simple brown envelope.

"Take this, Alek. Do not lose it, and give it only to a worker at the Crimson Hawk."

Alek nodded, taking the package and sliding it into a side bag. This is when his attire became clear, a black steel breastplate and pauldrons, gray colored slacks and brown ankle high boots. The hooded Alek soon closed his cloak and headed off toward Strata proper, he would search for any who looked strong and ask them if they knew of Kong, or if they had seen a man with this description.

He would ask shop keeps, gossips and anyone else he could find as well. If no leads were found he would travel to the Crimson Hawk, and hope there was some there.

Strata Docks - Early Afternoon; Search for Information on Kong.

20Oncle Roen

"I'll get back to you on that," said the Devil after Bellanox implied that he owed her money. As her employer, he lined her pockets -- did she even have any on her skirt? -- with gold. To think that he owed her anything when he fed, clothed, housed, and otherwise bought and paid for Bellanox's life style was something he would and could never grasp so long as she was under his employment and budget. Lifting his head and turning it to the side to watch Bellanox sit, he would favor the Carpathian gypsy with a genuinely warm smile. Rocking his body to the side and pushing his shoulder against Bellanox's torso, the Devil would chuckle, making light of her annoyance for his nickname for her.

"One the many prices I ask you to pay so long as I'm taking you on wonderful vacations such as these." That was the truth, wasn't it? Heaven or Hell was the closest thing to a vacation getaway. Free drinks at the bar with a wave of your FIGHTER, fans (not that Cannon Fodder had any[/i]) screaming for your autographs and attention, exotic locales such as Starta with the most beautiful night sky he had ever seen. The competition, save for the once-a-week requirement to kick some unfortunate b***d's a, was the closest thing to a relaxing life-style he had ever experienced. Abandoning the outside world to compete was a way to unwind and release tension, which was probably one of the many reasons the Devil enjoyed competing so much.

"As for the impending doom, I don't know." Relaxing once more and leaning back on his palms, Roen would once again turn his gaze skyward, marveling at the stars above his head. Beautiful, he would think inwardly, his eyes slowly searching for constellations he would recognize. After a few moments, his stomach would give just the lightest of twists, realizing that there wouldn't be any he would recognize for he was on Gaia, not Earth. Heaving in a deep breath and sighing through his nose, the stars could no longer captivate him and he would once again look away and to the side, gazing towards Bellanox while he internally lamented his homesickness.

"That society which attacked that woman with the crazy hair during the ball. I was abit busy saving myself from falling glass; but I did catch the recording of it on T.V. Normally, I wouldn't really pay attention to such things. Organizations come and go like the wind, you and I both know that; but..I don't know. I've got a bad feeling about this, and I seldom do about anything." Sniffling abit and clearing his throat, Roen's cheek would quirk slightly. "As for the LADDER bracket, mmf. I'm not a coward, Bellanox; a retreat to some is just an advance in the other direction to me. In a tournament, there is no retreat, and the warriors there are some of which I would not look forward to facing, good-sportsmanship or not. Between warp sorcerers and stone elementals, I can barely conjure a potent enough flame."

Shaking his head dismissively wetting his lips, Roen would sit up and clasp his hands together, looking down on the rooftop. "Eh, it's just all kinds of bad news in this tournament. I've seen somethings on the television that I would prefer to see in the movies. At least then I would know they were special effects." Tail lifting up and back towards it's owner, it would rest between both he and Bellanox, languishing up and down much like a cat's would, the ankh clipped to its tip jingling every now and then.

Turning around quite quickly Alphonse seemed quite startled by the fact that -someone- nay -anyone- was speaking to him, in fact he managed to drop his orange into the dirty and sandy ground. In response he made a really sad looking face, somewhat similar to this...

smilies/icon_sad.gif

"Oh? Are you talking to me young lady?" he asked, quite puzzled by the fact that someone was speaking to him out of the blue, let alone one dressed in black and red with oddly colored eyes.

"Well no, it don't bother me a whole lot, you get used to it after awhile!" he said with a cackling laugh that might have sent shivers down your spine if you weren't prepared for it. He was staring the woman and her shawl down, eyes boring into hers as if this staring contest would somehow decide the fate of the entire world. But he blinked, and thus the world was plunged into chaos! Not really, but he stilled looked really ad that he had lost his fruit.

"And you? Black int exactly a heat resistant color either ya know."

22Just Naota

"A potent enough flame, huh?" The cyborg scoffed, semi-expenisive cigarette lightly placed in between his lips as he frantically tried to get the lighter in his hands to work. The venom in Ed's voice was mostly comprised of annoyance, but whether it was due to Roen's statement was unlikely. The cold ocean breezes assaulting them and their natural ability to ****** over every attempt to ignite the lighter was probably the source of his frustration. "I can hardly operate a ****** lighter, and you're worried about having to compete metaphysically against some of the other fighters."

He rolled his eyes behind his trademark glasses, cupping one hand around the top of his lighter and facing his back to the ocean momentarily to serve as a barrier against the wind. The punk listened to Roen and Bellanox's conversation, putting a lid on his mouth and went to work on the lighter once more. The cyberpunk, after losing one of his favorite shirts during the fight that morning, sported a yellow t-shirt with the batman logo at it's center along with a thick zip-up hoodie. It tended to drop a few degrees at the beach when night came around, and it dropped even more degrees in deserts. And Strata had the best of both worlds, except it wasn't the best. It was cold as balls. He also wore the same jeans from before, but put on a nicer pair of sneakers. The others were pretty ratty and dubbed his dancing (fighting) shoes.

Managing to ignite a short flame, Edward quickly leaned his head forward, sucking on the cigar slightly as he moved it's opposite tip into the flame. The god damned cigar was finally lit and the cyborg tossed the shitty lighter off the side of the building. He picked up the brown bag he placed on the rooftop in order to free up a hand for cigar lighting and trekked over to Roen's opposite side.

The cyberpunk took a seat on the ledge without asking if it was okay; puffing on his cigar the entire time and letting his legs dangle from the edge. He listened to what Roen had to say and whatever Bellanox responded with next, casually removing the cheap bottle of wine from the brown bag, and popping the cork with his cybernetic hand. It wasn't only good for punching s**t.

"Yeah, I agree. Those guys in the black cloaks are creepy as s**t. I say we slip arsenic in one of their drinks if we ever get the chance. Whose with me?"

He said the last bit with mock-excitement/determination; the kind you typically heard in crappy Disney flicks. Edward chuckled and chugged straight out of the bottle.

"Well, so long as you are not already brain fried I suppose you have nothing to worry over." With a smirk, Fayble turned away from Sabrina and chuckled a bit as she began to walk off. Her actions might have seemed a little crude, but Fay meant no disrespect. She assumed the girl's answer judging on her reaction.

"I'll see you around."

And that they say is that.

Back in the present, the night after the fight, Fayble out and about. As usual.

This time, she was simply outside a little ways outside of the city. Relaxing, minding her own business. Gloved hands tucked behind her head, Fayble was laying down near a group of rocks and scrawny looking trees. She needed the time to relax by herself. Gazing up at the clear, starry sky, Fayble let her mind wander about as her eyes lazily glanced from light to twinkle.

She had spent most of her life like this, alone. But it was okay that way. She wasn't a very social person, she wasn't debilitated or a social outcast. It was just the way it was. Taking a deep breath, Fayble sighed out as a gentle desert breeze rolled across the barren sands.

Nothing special. Only a girl lost in thought.

Sabrina's eyes fell to Griff's arm. Suddenly, her enthusiasm seemed to drain away. "I, um, thought they could, uh . . . you know . . ." She made a vague pantomime at her shoulder, but as she stared at his impassive face and smoldering cigar, she just trailed off and left it that. Then he reminded her what they were here for.

She turned her head away, looking around, as if seeking something in this dark and empty neighborhood, thoughful. She turned back though, at Fayble's comment.

The young woman wondered if she'd done something wrong felt as though she should say something, but she was damned if she knew what, so she watched the back of that beat-up travel down the street. Griff had remained, though. She couldn't yet fully grasp what they were telling her, and her mind felt as blank as a fresh chalkboard, so she asked him the only thing that she could think of.

"Why me?"

Strata Town Center - Nightfall.

Aleksander strode to the center of town, rolling his cloak over his shoulders and revealing his attire. He rummaged through his side bag, grabbing a rolled up scroll and shifting his weight forward slightly as he let out a 'ehm' sound and then began yelling in a commanding tone.

"Listen citizens! I would like information on one Kong Jing Mao, a Chinese National last seen fighting in H.o.H, large figure with massive shoulders and blonde hair. This is a drawing of his form! Any information will be compensated."

Alek unrolled the large scroll, revealing four pictures of Kong through his various known stages. Chinese Warrior, Long haired Biker, Undead, and short haired masked biker. All were in great detail, almost looking like they were drawn through divination or some other form of magic.

"I will state this! Any information provided is toward finding and killing this man, so if you do not wish to soil your hands with such things do not step forward! For if I find him one of us will die!"

He lowered his voice, taking a deep breath and returning the scroll to his back. His covered spear hung from a loop tied to his back, inside that of the cloak with the head; though covered, popping out over his right shoulder. The average sized Prussian bowed his head to all around, some looking to here his message and others walking off.

He only hopped someone had information on this demon, so he could be hunted and removed.

"Wacation?!"

Nox could have almost laughed in his face at that but modified her mirth at the last so that all that came out was a derisive snort. Yeah, right. Besides the fact that the Gypsy did not drink alcohol. She did not socialize unless under duress, did not much hang in bars, nor did she 'hook up', which seemed to be the favored extra curricular activity of the HoH tournament. Nox had no screaming fans, that she knew of, nor did she want any. And the paparazzi? They were annoying, but at least they knew better than to get too close to the volatile Carpathian. So for her, it wasn't much of a vacation. Sadly, she'd spent the majority of her time here either in Cannon Fodder's suite or driving the Darkened Devil's classic 67 Impala around Latent if only to relieve boredom and keep herself out of the trouble that always seemed to find her.

On many occasions, Nox had, for a price, hunted humans as well as beings of an undead or supernatural nature. That being the case, she had learned to rely on conditioned senses to help determine which were safe, which were dangerous and which were downright deadly. The shady ones, she had determined, were the latter of the three. Certainly not beings that she would want to meet up with unless she was well armed, had an escape route mapped out and had back up. Suddenly the picture in her mind sharpened to perfect clarity. And what a thing of beauty it was! It was not a request. She simply acted, assuming his acquiescence and thus literally pulling him by the tail in her rush to get to work.

The orange eyes were starting to make a whole lot more sense now as Alphonse shook his head and one hand, declining to take the nice young woman's dates.

"No thank you miss, can't say I'm a huge date fan." and that toothy grin came back as he adjusted his leather jacket so that the sleeves would be a little looser around his arms. It was rather hot, but he knew that he would be glad he had a jacket on when the evening hit. Giving one last look to all the shops around him Alphonse finally made a quarter of a turn so that he was fully facing the orange eyed woman, staring her down for a minute before asking, quite blankly.

"So what brings you here then eh?" he still had on that big, stupid grin, and he had stuffed his hands into the pockets of his coat. So here they stood, the woman in black and the leather jacket clad old man, having a polite conversation in the middle of the organized chaos of the city.

The woman grinned in return, flashing dainty little fangs as she put the dates back in the basket. "I am shopping.. it is one of my favorite pastimes."

"I was also looking for someone, he tends to enjoy the climate of places like this... but I don't think he is in the city. And does something in particular bring you to Strata?" Her free hand absently tugged at her veil, brushing a strand of black hair back behind her ear.

Now that was a good question, one that even Old Alphonse had to pause and think about. For thirty seconds his face seemed as a whole rather blank, as if all sentient thought had vanished from his being and left an empty shell behind. However this did not last long as life flowed back into his face.

"Me? Oh, well, I'm just an old man who has nothing better to do than spend his free time roaming about and spending all his hard earned money on exotic trinkets and food. So retirement, really." and he flushed one hand out of his pocket to run a hand through his gray hair, making sure the pony-tail he had it pulled into was secure so that he didn't look like an old woman rather than an old man.

"Well I'm sorry to hear about your friend, Perhaps he's here and you just haven't found him yet? This seems to be a rather large and busy city you know, it's possible he's even looking for you!" Alphonse believed himself to be on a roll now, and nothing was going to stop him.

"Let's see if we can go find him eh? It'll be like another ADVENTURE!" and grabbing her arm he tugged her onward. There was no stopping him now.

"Oh no.. he never comes looking for me..." smilies/icon_sweatdrop.gif Actually this particular fellow tended to avoid her whenever possible. Orange eyes went wide as Alphonse's hand wrapped around her arm, and she was tempted to tell him to let go, but she had better control than a year ago.

Her first steps were hesitant, but after that she managed to keep up with him easily. "I'm up for an adventure." Red and black striped hair fanned ou under the veil as they moved.

Leaving Strata - Heading Toward Crimson Hawk.

Receiving mostly mixed information, Alek decieded it was best to simply travel to the Crimson Hawk and ask around there. His feet fell quickly as he made his way toward the Hotel.

It would be a long journey, but nothing Alek wasn't used too.

"Why me?" Griff tapped the cigar, ashes scattered across the road. He continued forward, his eyes locked on the girl, a pretty wide grin across his face. "In all fairness? That stick had a part of it." He gestured at her waist. "You don't see amateurs throwing those damned things around, And from what I hear, you're no chump with'em, either. Listen up, there is a little dive bar in Aekea. Hit me up at this number."

A card is flicked in her direction, hitting the cobblestone and skidding to a stop at her feet.

Alphonse quite nearly -skipped- along with the girl in tow, every so often letting out some sort of half garble half laugh sort of noise which served to only drive people out of his merry way.

"So tell me young lady, what does this particular fellow look like? Is he tall, short, tan, pale s the moon? Does he have a name? A profession? Is he one of those adventurous types?" and his questions didn't end there, they would only end when his breath did.

"Do you like him? Do you like him in a more personal regard? Did he propose to you and then get cold feet? Maybe he's your brother? Father? Uncle?" Alphonse was on a roll here, literally charging his way through a crows of people, leaving behind a confused swath in his wake.

"Because you know it's easier to find someone when you have a description of who you're looking for." The only good part was that he didn't seem to have his sword on him, lest someone risk losing an eye.

"He is very tall.. but then again almost everyone seems very tall to me!" She let out a little laugh at that thought, being only five feet tall could be a tad annoying at times smilies/icon_xp.gif "He has red hair, a prosthetic leg... lots of scars of late." Raven seemed quite annoyed at that thought, as if her friend was being silly to get himself hurt so badly on a regular basis.

"The leg is metal, not made to look real like the hospitals do for people these days.. He never proposed, but we where very close once.. he helped make me who I am today!" Somehow she managed to keep up with him, although she was having trouble smiling polity at the people that they dodged around.

"Oh, he has the cutest pointy ears, and very...strange, eyes!" smilies/icon_sweatdrop.gif Strange was the only word for it that she could come up with, and since her own eyes were not all that normal she had very different standards on what to consider strange.

"He loves the heat... much more than anyone else I have ever known." She giggled again thinking on how he used to react to being splashed, when they played at the pool. "He can even get kind of high on enough heat! Oh.. his name is Sunstrike!" As if that last was the least important point of all...

Sabrina picked up the plain little card, scanning the numbers printed in simple black lettering. Then she returned her eyes to him, still looking as lost as ever. A number of questions and thoughts filtered through her brain, so many that she didn't even know where to begin. So she simply seized the first one that stuck out a bit.

"I'm only 19."
