Airship de Judge

General - The word 'airship' can't really be applied to this rickety contraption other than by the virtue that it contains and/or moves through air. At one end a Judge wearing blue track-shorts over his armor is pedaling a bicycle with a propeller on the back while singing something that may or may not contain words; on the other end a judge wearing a feathered headdress stands at the loosely-termed-bow of the 'ship' doing the breaststroke with a rope tied around his waist as if he was planning to 'get out and pull'. Now, while this arguably takes care of forward propulsion the issue of buoyancy is far more questionable... Two judges appear to be 'keeping it aloft' in the sense that they don't seem to be engaging themselves in activities aimed at making it go in some direction other than up. One seems to be blowing into a hose connected to the giant balloon roped onto the 'ship' part of this airship, and the other is operating a hand-powered air pump to inflate a yellow rubber raft that they both are standing in.

The fighting area is a wooden scaffolding consisting of 3 separate layered platforms roughly twenty feet by twenty feet in size, seemingly made of nothing more than an unnecessary quantity of boards nailed together and... glued in some places. There are several holes in the platform and none of them seem intentional, it wouldn't be surprising if an entire section were to break away if too much weight were to be placed on it.

Though don't worry... there are enough superfluous ropes dangling haphazardly everywhere that something is bound to catch you if you fall. At the very least take comfort in the 'fact' that with this deathtrap flying in circles on the interior of the Noah Dome you'll never be more than one or two hundred feet off the ground.

Natural Element Resource - Air, and lots of it.

Weapons - Wooden planks with nails in them, lengths of rope, discarded paint cans (which had been used to paint a Judge mask onto the balloon and the word Splash-of-Seamen 9000 onto the raft), a few hammers, and a lunch pail containing a half-eaten ham sandwich and two bananas.

Bonus Effects - Perhaps this malformed terror of the skies can skirt the laws of gravity but you cannot - falling from the Airship de Judge counts as a ring out.

"This is never going to-- this is ridiculous."

When D' was called by Noah's camp and told not to bring the Roflcopter II, she wondered if there was a problem... paperwork, airspace permissions, or (gasp!) funding. None of the above, Noah himself had assured her, as he handed her a copy of some designs.

The look on her face screamed volumes towards her confusion and incredulity, and Noah noted how he held much the same face when he was presented with the original design. It took D' a full thirty seconds to recover her mind enough enough so that she could talk.

"How does it lift and stay aloft... how does it fly? Why does this even exist? I'll admit, you have a talent for going out of your way to be flashy when you want to be, but this... this..." D' searched for the words, before finally stumbling upon them.

"This is just fancy."

And yet she watched some of its construction, and was a fly on the wall as the Judges talked over their roles. She wondered at the airship's name, as well as how many gears the bike had, to deal with any turbulence they met. There was a mental note towards that biking judge; surely it wouldn't be taboo to just take off the lower portion of the armor, for the sake of wearing those shorts, would it?

She saw the plans. She watched it come together. In the end, she watched the combatants board, and the thing lift off.

"I... can't believe that this actually worked."

All that was missing from this... thing... was a strongman with barbells, lifting weights while dangling from one of the thousand of ropes the airship had attached to the platforms.

"...I have a headache."

3Vintrict

"..."

Was this thing real? Ko had been standing here for a good ten minutes since he got here trying to comprehend how this atrocity worked. Let's not mention that getting this type of stage had really bothered him. It looked like the antique version of a circus, as if they were expecting them to, as D' was thinking too, to practically pick up some barbells and start swinging on ropes to appeal to the mass audience sitting here today, who were pretty much chuckling, pointing, and taking pictures to upload to their facebooks/ youtube channels later. What probably bothered him more was how this thing was even working. Two armored judges were performing the most impractical things possible, and yet were able to make this flying circus, well, fly.

Okay, aside from seeing this deathtrap in the sky, Ko took out a bottle of what looked to be liquor and took a drink from it. If he remembered the details, those who weren't fighting were going to be standing on the sidelines while those who were would be up there on this thing trying to survive on poorly constructed wooden boards. And this is while the thing is flying around the interior of this dome, one hundred feet off the ground.

He took another swig, waiting for his teammates to get here to share the experience with him. It was okay. He brought enough drinks for everyone to ease the incoming headaches.

((I went to the judge thread to ask about the wooden platforms and here's the answers.))

"We're supposed to fight there?"

Antonio wasn't surprised that he had gone unnoticed; he'd only been able to stare absently at the deathtrap above him for the last few minutes, trying desperately to fathom how he could possibly be expected to do anything effectual up there. In the sky. On the equivalent of a rickety old fishing trawler held aloft by a combination of anime physics, pleasant thoughts and divine intervention.

Since the tournament had begun, he'd seen a slew of strange things, running the gamut from police officers clad in pajamas to videos on YouTube of fights taking place in the exact same burning bar as the one where he'd fought in the prelims. Speaking of which, his throat had been parched ever since. The thought of a pub that served pure ethanol made him shudder.

Following aforementioned shudder, he finally found the drive to blink. He could already hear it, the way the ship would creak hesitantly with every step... And then it would probably explode or something equally outrageous, incinerating him and bringing an abrupt end to the Diavolo clan. He fumbled in his pockets for his lighter and lit the cigarette that rested between his lips. After a long, relaxing drag that simultaneously satisfied his nicotine fix and calmed his nerves, he remembered he had a voice, even if it was still lost somewhere in-between his gut and his esophagus.

He tried hard to hide the fact that he was dreading this round. "What's up, Ko? I heard you crushed some gal's legs, man." He spat the cig out. It wasn't helping, and he didn't need to smell any more like smoke than he usually did. What if this time he was supposed to fight some gorgeous babe?

"Could you pass me some booze? I need to find my happy place, and it sure as hell ain't up there."

6Vintrict

Ko didn't like being reminded of what he did. It was merely for the fight, but beyond that, he didn't like the feeling of slamming a car into a person's body. Not unless they deserved it. Lovi hardly deserved it. He crouched down, removing a bottle of the Chinese imported liquor. Kanji was writted on the labels, making it pretty unknown what the stuff was. In the end, it was still alcohol, whether it was Chinese or American made. He tossed it over to Antonio before returning his eyes to the ship.

"We are here to win. If I have to hit a woman with a car, then so be it."

Another swig of the liquor was consumed.

FWIP FWIP FWIP FWIP FWIP

A gun-metal machine hovered into view over the Noah Dome, which had been opened up to allow the Judge-powered "airship" room to maneuver. This one was unmarked - it wasn't a Foundation vehicle, and it lacked any of the logos of significant news teams. It wouldn't be too hard to guess that the VTOL vehicle was privately owned.

The helicopter came to a hovering rest in the air beside the airship, ten or twelve feet separating the two flying machines. Inside the VTOL, Deitric stood on the far end of the interior deck of the machine.

"We'll be fine - Jonnie, make sure to call the suite and see if Shinji or Marius need a ride."

Without another word, the tribesman took off at a dead-sprint across the interior of his aircraft, bodily leaping across the expanse of open air that separated the VTOL from the airship-turned-fighting-stage. To those on the ground, he was nothing but an outline of a person, jumping through the air. For a moment, the air below yawned beneath him like a chasm, but gravity couldn't pull the leaping fighter down fast enough.

With a series of thuds, Deitric stomped across the top deck of the air ship to halt his forward momentum, looking somewhat off-balance. Having caught himself, he stood up right. A pair of arms were wrapped around his neck, and a pair of legs around his waist.

"I told you it would be fine," he said to the small, white-robed woman who had rode on his back for the mid-air leap. Without any sort of boarding mechanism to act as a bridge between the two aircraft, Deitric had to carry Sey onto the airship, or else make her leap for herself or climb up one of the two-hundred feet long rope ladders. Thankfully, she didn't weigh much - he'd hardly noticed the extra weight.

8Sey

Ohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygod.

The White Mage backpack didn't let go as Deitric landed on the Airship de Judge, nor did she open her eyes or release her vice grip on her Captain.

The Darth Vizzle Wrote:

"I told you it would be fine,"

"Th-th-th-th-th..." Slowly opening one blue gray eye and seeing the platform underneath his feet Seyumi slowly released her hold on her teammate's back before looking back at the helicopter and the distance he'd leapt.

That would have been bad.

Sey looked back to Deitric wide eyed with surprise before coughing and composing herself.

"Thank you." She managed calmly, moving to view the arena that they'd arrived upon. It seemed rather... Unstable.

"Is this thing really going to hold the weight of eight people?" Sey queried, subconsciously scooting closer to Deitric in case the wood beneath them collapsed or the invisible forces keeping them afloat suddenly quit.

9Chevalier Chausse

Spacefrenchy was there in some capacity.

10Vintrict

((Also, another thing to help you guys. I talked to the judges. Basically, all fighters currently in a fight are going to be on that ship, but if a person is not in the fight, they will be on the sidelines in the stands.))

[Judge edit]: Silly man. Spectators are on the sidelines. Team members should -probably- all be on the ship. At the very least, put the Striker up there.

11The Thunder Tyrant

[Just talked to Jello and Cog, they said it was fine - the first post describes the fighting area, but they said there could be "sideline" platforms strapped to the main one for the teammates who aren't fighting.]

"It ought to. Not that we'll all be on it at once," Deitric said, motioning towards one of the smaller platforms that acted as a sidelines of sort for the team. It wasn't as large as the main platform, but it was strapped - and, somewhat suspiciously, glued - to the balloon via rope and cabling. It hovered buoyantly beside the top tier of the tri-layered fighting area, which the tribesman and Sey stood on.

"You can wait over there with "Marius" for Shinji to show up. I'll take the first fight," the warrior said calmly, standing over the edge of the platform to peer down at the ground below where people were steadily gathering, the VTOL helicopter flying away to land nearby and wait for any pick-ups or drop offs for Awaken.

12Vintrict

((Oh. Well, okay then. lol))

13Vintrict

Ko took one last swig from the bottle then threw it down, watching as the other team flew in on their steel chariot. Maybe he should have gotten a helicopter to fly them in all fancy-like, too. No, no need to show off. The fights will do well enough.

"They are waiting for us. Come on."

Grabbing one of the hanging ropes that came from above, Ko began his climb up toward the airborne ship. He was swaying left and right, a movement that would unnerve many people who were climbing what was basically two hundred feet of hanging rope. Getting to the fifty foot mark alone would cause anxiety to grow. But not Ko. His disposition was strong and his calm demeanor not broken in the slightest.

When he arrived at the top, he climbed upon the top platform then rustled his suit's coat. He was currently wearing a white suit with a black dress shirt and a white tie fluttering in front of his chest. It was pretty windy up here considering they were standing on a moving platform. His eyes took a look down over the edge, a height that truly wasn't something to take casually. And then he looked over to the opponents of this round, the first time getting a closer look at the competition.

He stood there not saying a word as the hum of the airship, at least that of the judges' ambient noise, carried through the air, the asian staring across the platform through the clear glasses worn on his face and the open coat of his suit waving in the wind. He knew who the man was that stood before them. Deitric Jocasta, a name that had been going around a lot of the fighting scene for the past two years.

14Glass Raivyn

Seconds later, Isabella stepped onto the platform beside Ko. At first, the former Assassin said nothing.

“You do not strike me as a man afraid of heights, Master Yuen,” Isabella remarked, her unnervingly calm voice somehow unhampered by the whirling breeze surrounding the two teammates – a byproduct of her weapon, Gale.

Isabella kept the cowl of her cloak low, casting a deep shadow over her eyes and preventing them from being easily seen, while allowing her to peer towards her team’s to-be opponents.

If the former Assassin was at all bothered by the height, she hid it incredibly well. Nevertheless, Isabella was cautious of her proximity to the ledge of the platform she and her other teammates would be occupying at any given point during the length of this match.

The cloak Isabella wore was kept in constant check, gripped tightly within her gloved hands to prevent it from being blown about. In doing so, she maintained the “secrecy” of what rested beneath the heavy, sandy garment. Although, Isabella was certain that, at least by now, most knew what lay under the thick threads. Over her right shoulder, Gale’s hilt could be seen, it’s weathered grip a testament to its age. Isabella could almost feel the Sky Blade humming in delight as the air brushed across what metal was exposed.

"This is just. . . stupid." A deep, melancholy voice grumbled through clenched teeth, clamped down on a crushed cigarette. Shinji plucked the slender cigarette from his lips, clutching it between index finger and thumb as he released a small puff of wispy white smoke.

"Well, I suppose I should. . . get up there. Somehow. . ." Shinji thought aloud. His voice trailed away hesitantly as the magnitude of such a notion hit him square in the jaw like a hay maker. He stood by for a moment, sucking now and then at what remained of his cigarette until eventually he tossed it to the ground and stomped it out under the heel of his boot. He had managed to get to the Noah Dome, sure, but this. . . this just seemed a bit, ridiculous. Regardless, the one-time monk put on his usual flat, boring/bored expression as his skyward eyes spied the arrival of his teammates. He couldn't help but feel a bit left out, having missed the ride apparently, but just as that thought was welling up within him, he noticed the handy VTOL which had dropped his teammates off was making its way down to him. Therefore, he simply slipped his hands into the pockets of his old, worn jeans and waited patiently, a small grin on his lips.

In time, he would board the lithe helicopter and be suddenly whisked away to the somewhat more dangers flying apparatus. During the short ride up, he lit up a second smoke before taking in the gravity of the situation. The VTOL could only get so close to the nearby platforms, it seemed. With a 'harrumph' and a frowny face, Shinji contemplatively nibbled at his cigarette for a long while. In time, though, he would make up his mind. With one last drag, he flicked the remnants of his cig into the wind as he took a running leap from one airship to the other, landing as gracefully as possible with a definitive thud he descended to one knee momentarily before getting his balance. He was glad that he hadn't missed, and that the platform he had landed upon hadn't shattered instantly.

He looked to his teammates with an almost-whimsical smirk, as wind batted his unruly silver bangs about above his brow.

"Fun." He thought aloud, speaking to no one in particular, as he did his best to get his bearings. He would find himself comfortable enough to resume his usual stance, and hands-in-pockets as he waltzed over to join his comrades. It seemed, as the team captain stepped forward, that Deitric had chosen to take the first fight, and the monk couldn't complain. All that pressure of fighting first, what a way to harsh his presently mellow attitude.

He was content to stand by and be a spectator. For now, at least.

It was then, as he was standing idly by, that he suddenly realized he hadn't actually met any of these other two people who were apparently on his team. He mused at that idea with a small smirk.

"How awkward. . ." He thought to himself.

16Sey

The Darth Vizzle Wrote:

"You can wait over there with "Marius" for Shinji to show up. I'll take the first fight," the warrior said calmly, standing over the edge of the platform to peer down at the ground below where people were steadily gathering, the VTOL helicopter flying away to land nearby and wait for any pick-ups or drop offs for Awaken.

"Yessir!" Sey chirped with a salute and a smile, the silver charm bracelet he'd given her glinting in the afternoon sun. "I'll be at the ready always if you need me during your fight, Sir Deitric. Please use me as you see fit."

Resisting the urge to give him a good luck hug and wish him well, the healer restrained herself and approached the teammates she hadn't yet met.

"Ahum... Sir Marius? Sir Shinji?" The healer asked hesitantly, eying the silver haired man and the 'spacefrenchy' in question. Today, as usual, Seyumi was utterly unremarkable in appearance in a white blouse and blue skirt, walking about the rickety ship with the air of a woman who was more likely to spectate such a tournament rather than participate in it. But the FIGHTER on her left wrist spoke to the contrary.

"I'm Seyumi Kaikou, a White Mage of Falis. I'm here to support you." The introduction was accompanied with a polite bow and a smile as she straightened, her warm aura the only hint as to what she was capable of.

17The Thunder Tyrant

Deitric nodded to Sey and to the men who stood behind her on the "sideline" platform - Shinji and Marius, the other two members of their team. The tribesman was no longer smiling now. Like a rush of cold water, any personable traits were washed away, replaced with the icy, relaxed calm that stole over the warrior. Like any veteran, Deitric's mentality shifted drastically in times of peace and in times of war or stress.

Discarding his shades, the brave half turned, cocking his head to the side to peer at the members of the other team. His stare leveled onto Ko.

"You're my opponent," he said to the Yakuza nonchalantly, his tone unconcerned. It wasn't a question; it was a statement. It was hard to tell if he were still looking at Ko and his compatriot, but it was a more-than-likely probability. While he spoke, the tribesman undid the straps, buckles, and zippers that kept the tight-fit leather jacket wrapped to the contours of his body, shrugging it off and tying it to a length of rope via a few of the straps. Beneath the jacket lay a black, sleeveless work-shirt, revealing the striated brawn of the fighter's arms, and the long, complex maze of blank ink running down his arm.

"I don't like interference," he continued smoothly without regard for whether or not Ko answered his previous statement, now working on lacing up something onto his arms, which were obscured by the V-shape of his upper body, "I request a special rule for our fight - no Strikers. Our teammates can decide their own rules of engagement. Do you agree to these terms?"

Finally the tribesman turned around, revealing what he had been working with while he spoke. Thick cords of leather were criss-crossed and interlaced tightly together to form gauntlets that went from fist to elbow. The "knit" leather was thickest over the knuckles. Unlike a typical fighting glove, the leather banding was meant to harden the blow - not soften it or spread out the force. Capping off the knuckles were thick, flat studs of steel, designed to concentrate all the horrendous force Deitric could generate into focal points of impact. Metal plates were wove into the "backhand" of the gauntlet all the way up along the forearm to act as partial armor.

The caesti were brutal looking weapons, designed for one thing, and one thing only - to capitalize on Deitric's punching power, and turn his fists from things of flesh and bone into weapons of steel. Every inch of each cestus seemed to be made for causing harm. From the way the end of the glove overlapped his topmost knuckles, they didn't seem to hinder his ability to grasp or grapple, either, although he was conspicuously without his tomahawks - perhaps the warrior felt over-armed had he come with both his trademark weapons and the new caesti.

"Are you ready?"

18Vintrict

Glass Raivyn Wrote:

"First, stop calling me master. Second, always look before you leap."

His attention had never left the other team as he said this, which had him suddenly see and hear the call for battle from the injun himself. For some reason, Deitric felt compelled to mark him as his opponent. They were the leaders of their respective teams, so that was a good reason for why he did it. But Ko thought differently. Whether it was by watching his match or simply having a feeling about people, maybe Deitric sensed that Ko was naturally going to be his opponent. He probably figured that this man held the same principles as him, and thus would give him a favorable match of brawn against brawn; that he could handle whatever the asian was going to throw at him and be off on his merry way like any other fight. He probably thought Ko was just another guy he could defeat in one on one combat.

He didn't even have to say it. Deitric's request for no interference insured it. He shrugged his shoulders as he gave his answer in that thick accent of his: "Whatever you say."

Ko removed the coat of his suit, but tossed it over his left shoulder, held for the time being by his left hand, while stuffing the other hand into his pocket. He walked forward to step onto the rigging wooden platform, not startled by its creaking, to meet Deitric on their selected stage. Standing there casually while Deitric adopted a more serious stance, the horn blew through the air, signaling the first fight of this round and causing the audience in the stands to go into a wild cheer. Amongst those audience, spread out along the seats, were a few "peers" of Ko's, asian men wearing different clothing to blend in. They had come simply to watch their fellow man fight, wanting to see his action in the ring. They had heard stories about Deitric, too, so were interested to see who was going to come out on top.

Ko would make the first move. And it wasn't really a big one. He just started to step forward in a walk of sorts, closing the distance between them on this twenty by twenty walkboard.

Bunch of women.

Rakgan conspicuously stomps towards his teammates, heavily straining the floor's questionable durability. Brows furrowed, the Uluuk breathes heavily, barely containing his blazing temper. The lecture he received from the judges prior to this round's matchups had left him wanting to simply walk out the door. The only attribute which kept him going now was his overwhelming desire for victory, which, to his satisfaction, he had earned in his last fight. He would not quit until his goal was achieved, no matter how many skulls he was ordered to break.

Rakgan no use stage. Rakgan no use fist and foot. Ik'ran Ik'ran Ik'ran!

Having to this moment ignored his surroundings, Rakgan finds his left foot completely below the floorboards; in his rage he had managed to punch a hole through the floor while walking. Losing his balance for a moment makes him appear foolish, fueling his burning desire to destroy something. After angrily lifting his foot out of the crevice, he takes a little more care in reaching his teammates, stopping only to ask the general vicinity the question that matters.

"Who fight I?" his voice booms loud enough for all to hear.

"Elex on," Rakgan mused, "Fal'kaq roxijin". Noticing the weakness of the stage, the warrior decides on a target for his power, one which will break easily to his aggression. Looking around, he awaits an answer from somebody.

It matter not what use Rakgan. If win I, win I.

20a simple simulacra

Shinji would have been content to awkwardly stand by and not-fraternize with his supposed teammates. If only because he found it funny, on some level, that they hadn't been introduced at all. The three of them, Shinji, Marius and Sey, would have simply stood stoically by, like three statues, and Shinji would have been content with that. For, at present, he was doing his best to get his thoughts in line. What he knew for certain, at the moment, was that he didn't quite enjoy the notion of fighting on such an awkward platform. But, with that thought, came a second, subsequent one: "Well, win quickly, I guess." He thought to himself. It seemed simple enough. "Good plan, Shinji"

He lit up a third smoke, then, as it seemed he would have some amount of down-time before having to fight for himself.

Then, with that bit of mental reassurance properly addressed and taken care of, the former-monk's lackadaisical hazel eyes shifted away from the fighting platform ahead to the teammate to his side. He listened, then, as she introduced herself, and as he did, he continued to nibble at the cigarette clenched between his lips. When she had completed her introduction, he extended a hand, as was the custom in this land, it seemed.

"Hey there." He said, his tone, as per usual, was rather blunt and. . . "professional". He had a working man's sense of efficiency about him, despite his conflicting disposition toward actually doing work. This, he thought to himself, had to be done. The fighting, anyway.

"Shinji." He added, though it seemed she already knew his name.

There was a moment of silence then, as Shinji remembered something about himself: He was no good at small talk.

"Uhm. Support sounds like a good deal." He mumbled, his lips seemingly fumbling over his present cigarette. "I suppose."

". . ."

"Yeah. . ."

His thought process trailed away again, as it seemed the fighting was about to begin. His eyes shifted away from the White Mage, back toward Deitric, and then toward the other members of the opposing team.

"Say, Sey, do you know how this tournament thing actually. . . works?" He asked, again, as straightforward as ever. "I mean, should I just go fight one of those other guys, or is there some sort of etiquette I'm not aware of?" Truth be told, perhaps Shinji should have read the rules. It did seem odd to have two or even three fights going on simultaneously, but only because of the awkward fighting platform/platforms they had to work with. The more action taking place, the more chance something would break, at least, that's what he thought to himself.

He hoped he wouldn't have to fight immediately.

He had been looking forward to the chance to watch Deitric fight. He hadn't had that chance, really, since he had fought Deitric. And, that wasn't much of an opportunity to watch and reflect, as he liked to do.

21The Thunder Tyrant

Truthfully, Deitric had chosen Ko because it was a choice between the Yakuza or the woman. It wasn't misogyny that drove his choice but rather a deep imprint from his homeland's culture that left him with a strong distaste for fighting women; it felt fundamentally wrong to him and he avoided doing so when he could. That made Ko the only reasonable choice, although he might have chosen the man anyways. But such possibilities were not for him to say or dwell on.

Satisfied that the two had come to an agreement, the tribesman didn't waste any time; the telltale glow was already beginning to burn out the pale coloring of his eyes. He moved forward to meet Ko's lax approach, but that didn't last long. Instead, after only two steps steps his boot smacked solidly into one of the gallon-sized paint bins as he gave it a hard kick with his right foot, sending the paint can flying through the air towards his opponent to try and beam him squarely in the face while there was still some fifteen feet between them.

The attack had a different effect than intended - he hadn't noticed that the paint can was open and still had a great deal of paint in it. Rather than hurl a heavy paint bin at his opponent, he kicked an open one, sending a wide swath of dark indigo paint splashing through the air like a wayward wave of water while the paint can simply flew off to the side, emptied of its contents and nowhere near hitting its intended target.

Whoops.

Not what he had meant to do, but it was a pleasant surprise - getting a face full of paint was going to hamper anyone's visual acuity, or at the very least, a gallon of paint being slung in the air was bound to get his opponent moving, which was never a bad thing as far as Deitric was ever concerned. His booted foot, set back onto (relatively) solid ground, was covered in a splash of blue paint.

The black-haired brave had intended to move into close combat after hurling the paint can, but now he hesitated and stood his ground, more out of curiosity and bemusement over what he had just done, rather than caution. He had had his fair share of attacks go amiss, but none were quite as surprising as what he'd just accidentally "accomplished."

SPLASH.

All Ko could do was dodge swiftly to the left, while swinging his coat around as a sort of shield as the blue paint spilled itself toward him. Droplets of it touched the right side of his clothing, most easily seen on the bottom hem of the right legging of the white pants. The clothing to get the most punishment was the coat, its white color now doused by the glossy blue paint that came from that can. This was a very expensive suit he had, made of the finest material that you could find on the clothing market. Still, he wore it to a tournament where destruction and damage were the rule, not the exception. That spoke much about his priorities.

Well, he had to say, he found Deitric's cautiousness amusing. From all the videos he watched of the man, the injun usually loved taking the initiative unless he saw something that could threaten him up close. So, he acknowledged Ko as someone who may give him a hurting if he wasn't careful. Him, a living champion amongst fighters, actually letting his instincts be kept in check. This was his chance. It was time to get the fight started. Deitric had exposed some crucial information to the asian.

SQUEAK.

The platform swerved as Ko took a sprint at Deitric. He was going to take about a good five steps before taking the painted coat and throwing it at Deitric. With the gusts moving across the air, the coat was going to go slapping into the injun's body like a wet rag, which acted as a viable way to block his view, and a little obstruction for him to worry about getting rid of.

23The Thunder Tyrant

Deitric's body language and stance didn't change in the least when Ko charged forward, slinging the paint covered jacket through the air. His brow twitched, the light in his eyes flashing dangerously as he brought his right hand up in front of him, as if he intended to catch the jacket.

There was a loud CRACK as a jagged, burning finger of lightning burst to life from the warrior's upraised hand, cutting through the air to catch the jacket in mid-flight. The bolt of cackling electricity burned a hole right through the jacket and sent it to the deck in a smoking heap, leaving the acrid smells of burnt ozone, cloth, and paint in the air. A few flecks of paint had come off the jacket to splatter across Deitric's front, but the jacket had come nowhere near touching him.

The display of his power was relatively meager in comparison to what he usually did - he'd had barely enough time to gather the appropriate energy, and it left a sting all along his arm - but it was enough to do the job of dealing with the incoming jacket. It was a measured show of contempt; the brave was showing that he could use his powers trivially and still be confident in his chances.

If Ko continued to charge forward, then Deitric would lash pump his right hand forward again in a quick, metal-capped jab to try and check the Asian's movement. If Ko backpedaled in the face of the lightning blast (which, while it wasn't meant to strike the Yakuza, could give him sufficient reason to back up), then the tribesman would rush forward, arms up in a peek-a-boo style guard, aiming himself towards his opponent as if he were going to body-check the smaller man so that he could get as close as possible to Iron Tempest's captain.

Isabella addressed the newest arrival of her team with a subtle shift of her posture, which brought the Uluuk just within view, allowing her to watch him with relative comfort from the corner of her eye. Although, the teenager was far less interested in her teammate than she was the current fight, a mild expression of intrigue playing across her shadowed features as she watch. Every few moments though, Isabella’s eyes would move towards the gathered members of the opposing team.

She was eager to fight, almost dangerously so – something the former Assassin chalked up as a result of her most recent battle, which had left her desiring more. Nevertheless, Isabella had taken a few things away from that particular bout; only one being the still-healing burn across her left arm.

After a few seconds of contemplation, Isabella took a slight step forward, gesturing towards the opposite side of the arena.

“If we are to fight, Rakgan, I presume it will inevitably be one of them,” Isabella remarked somewhat dryly before turning to face her teammate fully. “That man there picked Master Yuen as his opponent. Why not emulate that and choose your prey?”

A slight smile tugged at the corners of the retired Assassin’s lips as she spoke. The Uluuk was an interesting creation, and Isabella enjoyed his company more than most others. However, she also understood (at least partially) his need – no, his desire to fight and win. Although in order to do so, he would actually have to fight.

Isabella, on the other hand, was not going to take her own advice. She would instead wait for one of the opposing team’s combatants to make the choice to take up arms against her. That was, of course, unless she was prompted to do otherwise by some means…

Hearing the snap of a small lightning bolt going off was quite a startle. But that was merely the body responding to a sudden sound that could be something of danger. A natural occurrence. And then there was the fact that Ko continued forward despite it. Predetermined mental actions overloaded his sense of security, justified by knowing what Deitric was capable of. He already knew the man harnessed the power of electricity. Getting struck by a bolt of it was something no one would enjoy.

But he pushed onward. When the coat was struck out of the way by the attack to reveal the vision between the two combatants once again, Ko was at a standstill three feet in front of the Lord of Thunder. His right hand was no longer in his pocket, the arm instead extended forward. Within his hand, he held a silver zippo lighter, the top flipped open with the opening pointed toward Deitric. It did not even take a second for his thumb to move upwards on the little wheel device.

Flick.

A cone of fire rushed against Deitric's body. The flamethrower only had a distance coverage of three feet, but with Ko's arm extended, it decreased the distance enough to where a good sum of the fire would strike against Deitric's body, mainly his torso considering it was not that large to begin with. Ko disappeared yet again as the veil of fire roared, dragging his right arm upwards to further hinder Deitric's sight and to add confusion to the surprise. Skin, shirt, and possibly hair was grounds for being ignited. Since he got some paint splashed onto him, as well, that counted as a flammable chemical that would add more, as they say, fuel to the flame. And then there was the wind...

This flamethrower would only last for five seconds, considering that is how much gas was held in the tiny container, but amongst the attack, Ko would deliver a simultaneous attack along with it. This occurred during the raising of his right arm as the flames went higher. Driving his left fist from his hip, the Triad member twisted his fist to add torque, and punched toward Deitric's right kidney area while slamming his left foot down, causing the platform to take another sway left and right. This would add enough force to not only churn the injun's gut but put a little knockback to the move as well.

Today was a bad day to be on fire.

When your opponent moves, stay still.

When your opponent stops moving, advance.

Pretend inferiority and encourage his arrogance.

The adages that had guided and shaped Deitric's fighting methodology echoed in a myriad of cultures, but was most easily expressed in the tribal warfare that his people engaged in. They were taught to ambush, to wait until their enemies relaxed to strike, and to lay in wait while they maneuvered and revealed themselves. In war, painted tribesmen would meld into the forests in what appeared to be a disorganized retreat, only to fall on their opponents at the height of the perceived rout.

And so Deitric did with Ko, playing the age old game of maneuvering with him. Uncertain of his opponent's abilities, the dark-skinned brave waited while the Yakuza move, watching carefully. He had lain low, like a snake in the grass; waiting for the most opportune moment - as he saw it.

The jacket was knocked away, revealing Ko in standing mere feet away from Deitric, something silver glinting in the sunlight in his grasp. More importantly, he had essentially stopped moving. In an instant Deitric seemed to shift from an unassuming, cautious snake in the grass to a cobra, lunging flush with fangs bared. Ko must have thought he'd caught the tribesman, but the situation was certainly more mutual than the Asian man realized.

The flames burst to life just as Deitric suddenly surged forward with all the impressive power his legs could allow, but the action would be - for a split second - unseen thanks to the haze of flames. Fire was Deitric's antithesis - not that he was anymore vulnerable to it than other men, only that he hated being burned. But a lighter wasn't the same as a military flamethrower with its jellied gasoline, nor was it on the same level as Jame Eredas's hereditary flames; something he had dealt with fairly recently. It was still fire, through and through though, and Deitric would suffer greatly, but not without reason.

Too late to stop and too determined to care, the brave plunged right into the maw of flame before he even fully realized the Yakuza's trick, momentarily disappearing. Deitric's fist burst forth from the flame, smoke rising from the leather as his pumping legs carried him across the handful of feet and through the flame, aiming to smash an overhand right into Ko's face, Deitric's upper body followed, rising through the flames like an avenging ghost at the base of the cone, the fire licking and burning away at the fabric of his shirt and the skin beneath. Smoke rose around the burnt warrior and his face was a grimacing rictus-mask of pain, but the warrior was more inclined to suffer the pain of battle than the pain of regret. Where there lay no risk, lay no reward.

He didn't see the second attack coming, but on the upside, Ko couldn't have seen Deitric's punch coming either - they had been mutually blocked by the gout of fire for a split second. If anything, they were likely going to trade punches, but all things considered, the brave's punch was considerably more vicious and powerful - he was bigger, stronger, and he wore an instrument of brutality strapped to his hand unlike anything most fighters had ever encountered. The steel-capped knuckles were on a one-way collision course with the center of Ko's face, and hopefully the (mutual) element of surprise would be present.

Stepping into Ko's punch helped disperse a small amount of force, but the blow was still painful, especially considering the amount of fire that had been poured over Deitric's torso. But the trade was worth it - the overhand right could do more than enough to separate the two warriors, and the Yakuza would probably be seeing stars after getting hammered square in the face, if the two did indeed trade punches.

Time, albeit only a split second of it, would be the telling factor of how successful each warrior was.

27Vintrict

Deitric's charge did not go unnoticed, but Ko was too dedicated to his own actions to do anything about it. He merely tensed up, as he figured the brown-skinned man was going to tank through the flames and try to hit the asian as fast he could. Like a wild animal, he simply charged into danger. Though he had put his own body at risk, it was a price to pay if it meant being able to hurt the other guy. He was simply a wild beast. The fist struck through the flames. He did not know what type of attack Deitric was going to use, but he had at least turned away his face while tensing his body, just in case the man went crashing into him. But instead, he got nailed into the face, causing his glasses to be knocked straight off. The warrior's punch wasn't perfect. Fire and having your sight taken away would lower the accuracy of the attack, but considering it was a move that counted more on using the entire arm rather than a slick strike with the fist, it still struck him like a club. At the same time, his fist drove into Deitric's own body.

The left side of Ko's face warped as the steel knuckles struck against his jaw. Within his mouth, the taste of copper bit at his tastebuds. But if he was expecting the asian to fall to that one attack, he had another thing coming. Two things kept him from hitting the wooden floor. One, his stance was solid. His feet were spaced, a product of the punch he just threw; his rear was lowered and his back was straight. Similar to the horse stance, his foundation was strong. The second reason he did not fall was because he was a lot tougher than that. Deitric took pride in his strength and physical prowess. If he saw a sign of weakness, the injun would run with it for the rest of the fight.

Ko showed no weakness. He stood his ground and did not falter the least bit. As Deitric's attack ended, an aura of his own came into existence around his body. Unless someone was able to see the supernatural, they would not be able to notice the weird energy that spawned around his body for a second before disappearing. He closed up the lighter in his hand for now. With how fast Deitric approached, there was about two seconds and then some left of fuel in the canister. Ko turned his right hand into a fist, used his left arm to push upwards to move away Deitric's arm that pounded into his face, and then sent his right fist on a collision course for Deitric's burning torso, aimed at the gut again. He held a solid base, one good enough to send the injun's velocity into reverse and knock him back.

"Ha!"

28The Thunder Tyrant

If Ko thought he could drive Deitric back, he had an unfortunate surprise waiting for him. Few men stood and tried to swing toe to toe with the brave, and for good reason - more often than not, he was the heavier and stronger when paired with other fighters, and he had proven to be exceptionally tough to break mentally, even if he were hardly more resilient than the normal human. The few fighters who could drive him back with physical force were those as large or larger than him - Ebris, Murdoch the dragonkin, Athan and the like.

The Yakuza had it worse than previous opponents. Deitric had a solid fifty pound weight advantage, but they were of the same height; meaning his weight difference was almost entirely muscle. The man's fists were also girded with unforgiving leather and steel, which acted as focal points for all the force he could generate. Deitric's stance was not unlike his opponent - solid, meant to keep him in place. He could no more be knocked aside than his opponent could.

Ko wanted to try and trade blows with the black-haired fighter, and Deitric would make him regret it.

Quote: This is a specific technique revolving around Deitric's central nervous system, specifically the motor nerves that deal with muscle control . Using his ability to manipulate electricity, Deitric "jumpstarts" his central nervous system's muscle fiber recruitment, allowing him to recruit every muscle fiber possible for a short amount of time [1 post]. This gives Deitric a tremendous physical boost in all attributes [2x his stats], but heavily taxes the body over time if done more than once or twice during a fight.

Even though his eyes and mind watched carefully, his body moved instinctively - the retracting motion of his right overhand acted as the throwing motion for the left hand, aiming to swing and catch Ko across the face again, just as the Yakuza warrior sought to slam his fist into Deitric's muscled, burnt torso. The cloth of his once-pristine shirt fluttered and smoked, revealing burnt, angry-red skin, ashen and patchy in the worst of places.

The pain was immense, and being struck across the skin sent white-hot tendrils of searing pain through his flesh. But that was the difference between their striking - Ko's striking caused pain. Deitric was swinging to cause damage. Pain didn't stop strong-willed fighters. It was damage that ended fights. The body wore down and broke; pain was an issue of the mind that could be resisted.

With his physical attributes nearly twofold, he would be swinging doubly fast, and with twice the usual strength, creating a monstrous potential for damage that moved like a blur of red-skinned lightning. If Ko suffered any injury to his face before, it was going to be far more gruesome this time. The pair of men were firing off point blank at each other - as long as one could hit the other, the reverse was inevitably true. As long as Ko tried to hit his opponent, the Asian was putting himself in the same danger.

As long as Ko swung, Deitric would do the same. Deitric's stomach was all muscle and sinew, but the face was bone and cartilage. One had give and bend, the other did not.

The brave's torso would bruise and blacken terribly, but he would break Ko's face and crack the man's skull in return.

29Vintrict

Deitric was perplexed by the notion that someone who was inherently fifty pounds lower in weight than him was standing up to his attacks. Meanwhile, Ko had no worry. He was hitting the injun and that was all that mattered. He knew the power that the man had behind his attacks, but the asian's moves were no less as damaging as his. He was going to stick to his own devices, and hopefully his martial art senses would keep him standing long enough to start making Deitric wallow. For now, he was considered the one at a disadvantage.

Ko reactively moved his face to the left, along with his upper body swerving, as Deitric threw down upon another punch. This time, with the buff he applied to himself, the attack held a lot more power than the last. Thankfully, by moving in the same direction as the attack, he was able to shave off some of the power like any skilled brawler could do. The asian took a couple of steps back as he was struck, but his right foot struck the pavement, stopping himself quickly. The scars on his face were a sign of his conditioning, though it seemed his opponent felt they were nothing compared to what he could dish out. Maybe so, but Ko was not going to be KO'd after two strikes (excuse the pun).

Both of his fists rose up, letting his left foot settle in front with the foot rose slightly to balance on the heel. Even after two good strikes to the face, Ko's focus had yet to falter. He was not resting or retreating. Instead, he pushed back into the grit of the fight, challenging the hand to hand champion in his own game. Suddenly, both of his fists started to punch swiftly at Deitric's midsection, the same place his previous two attacks had struck. He was not punching in a normal manner of pulling your fist back and forth in a straight line. Instead, they were moving in more of a circular formation while punching and pulling away. This gave Ko a continuous offense while allowing him the ability to deliver a large number of attacks in a short amount of time. It appeared that he was off his guard; and the fury of blows had the look of a little kid trying to fight themselves against a bully.

Of course, this was a man who had the knowledge of Wing Chun backing him up. Each punch held the devastation of a normal blow, each muscle in his body keeping in sync to deliver optimum power. It was not as powerful as his opponent's Mike Tyson punches, but they were still capable of causing his body more harm. If the injun loved pain, then he would give as much as he liked.

30The Thunder Tyrant

Deitric's fist connected with his opponent's face, and the Yakuza fighter was momentarily forced back, but came back as strong as ever. The tribesman found his tenacity and bravery admirable, if misplaced - he was playing against the house in the dealer's favorite game. Perhaps he was stubborn, or proud, or felt he had found some weakness in the tribesman's game; any were possible. The problem wasn't with Ko's approach, but rather with Deitric as an opponent. Born and bred a barbarian in the untamed wilds, his fighting instinct was inherent just like that of the panther's, whereas training created that instinct in civilized men, it only honed it to a razor's edge what was present from birth in the dark skinned warrior. And a barbarian would rather die fighting than retreat or accept the humiliation of defeat.

Ko moved in again, and Deitric didn't stop him. Instead, he began to throw his own punches in response, turning his body to the left and right. It was subtle, but the brave was turning his body in time with the Asian's swings, so that the punches always landed directly across the front of his abdomen, pushing against the ridges of muscle that lay there. The Khasmin man was a more disciplined, trained hand to hand artist than most gave him credit for, and he was proving it now - it took a keen sense of timing and depth to match one's bodily movements with that of the opponent.

The muscles of the abdominal wall were the nearest thing to armor that the human body had, ribcage notwithstanding. They wrapped around the torso, acting as a natural belt to help keep organs in place, support the spine, and protect the vitals where the ribcage could not. It was still painful; moreso because of the burns, but it was much easier to take those blows on across the abs than elsewhere on the human body. It was almost like the classic rope a dope strategy - force the enemy to expend energy striking a target that could weather the damage, while retaliating in force.

Deitric aimed to do just that - if he turned his body to the left to take a blow, his right fist lashed straight out, and then the left would do so on the opposite turn. It was almost like a training exercise - turning to accept a blow and give another in return. The difference was, neither man was holding back - purplish, angry bruises were forming across the abused torso of the long-haired, somewhat burnt warrior, while his own fists were more than likely smashing home on his opponent's face with gruesome effect.

Deitric's metal and leather shod fists were shooting straight out and straight back in hard jab-crosses that came on like a torrential downpour; for every blow one man threw, it had a response. Ko had given up an advantage to his opponent by concentrating on his opponent's torso - reach. The Yakuza's attack were aimed lower on the body, forcing him to keep in close with the brave. Deitric's punches, on the other hand, were straight and aimed for the face, maximizing his reach. So long as he was using his Wing Chun style punches to assault the abdomen, Ko would be putting his face right in the way of wrecking ball after wrecking ball of punches and the only way to get out of range was to move back. What he lacked in his usual power, Deitric was making up for with the caesti.

It was only a question of which man could withstand more punishment - could Ko deal with having his eyes swollen shut, teeth knocked loose, or having his nose and cheeks smashed to pieces better than Deitric could withstand the constant assault on the tensed, battered, burnt muscles of his midsection? Given that both men seemed wantonly stubborn and perfectly willing to trade blows, it was a question that was more "up in the air" than either of them would have wanted to admit.

One of them had to break, or someone was bound to retreat, however momentary.

31Vintrict

Deitric wasn't the only one who felt at home in close range. He wasn't backing off anytime soon. After all, men spilled blood on the streets of Hong Kong, too. This time, though, Ko wasn't just going to take anymore direct punches. It would be stupid if he did, as he didn't feel like having to worry about his own injuries before he could cause some to Deitric.

WHACK.

It was like the sound effect you heard from any kung fu flick out there, except more subtle. Whenever Deitric punched, one of Ko's arms would punch outward diagonally in a straight line toward the direction his opponent's punch was coming from and stop the arm short. When he struck with his right fist, Ko answered with his left fist. And vice versa. When he was done parrying the attack, he went back to his punches, breaths of air following to pace his breathing and power output. The defense flowed back into his rapid fist offense easily due to the circular movement. Block, punch, punch, punch. Block, punch, punch--you get the picture. It wasn't exactly perfect because Ko's face was still being struck, but the punches had been reduced to nabs and scrapes. To the asian, he felt like he was in another one of his training sessions, refining his muscle memory in terms of punching and taking a punch.

He knew Deitric's body was resilient. He knew that he wasn't going to take down this beast of a man with normal punches. The audience knew, the people at home knew, and the betters who laid down some big money on this fight knew. Even the injun was curious as to why his opponent was playing in a weighted game like this. Maybe in the end, Ko was just a mindless Triad member who thought his brawler skills would help win an international fighting tournament, already having blood leaking out one side of his lip. Or maybe this hitman in a notorious gang actually had a plan.

6

32The Thunder Tyrant

Ko's shift in technique told Deitric one thing: the man was afraid to keep playing his game. He wasn't willing to trade blows, but rather tried to mitigate the brave's and land his own.

Every time the Yakuza punched, Deitric punched; a near mirror image in timing, if not exactly in technique. But every time Ko punched, he was also doing some sort of block to help take some of the sting out of his opponent's punches - punch-and-block, over and over. While that might have been fortunate for him, it was also advantageous for Deitric - every punch Ko threw was less powerful, because he was having to act in two different directions to both block and strike simultaneously. There was no break in the dark skinned fighter's punches - they were straight, fast, and he threw every time that Ko threw.

As long as the Yakuza attempted to block and strike, he would never get the chance to do one or the other without having to take both actions simultaneously. The punches that would have left serious bruising over his torso were reduced to a measly portion of their potential, as were Deitric's own. Ko had turned a slugging match into an expenditure of energy - both men were burning energy, and doing little other than causing stinging pain to their opponents. Diminishing returns in the worst kind of way.

And diminishing returns were not what the tribesman wanted when he fought. Ko would only get to block one or two punches before Deitric abruptly changed - one of his punches turned just aside after nicking the side of the Asian man's face suddenly changed. In a flash, he was no longer retracting the punch, but grasping at the Asian man's neck with a hand that squeezed like a vice-grip.

There was no telegraph; his right hand was right beside Ko's jaw when he simply opened and closed it again. While Deitric was less agile than his smaller opponents - sometimes by a considerable margin - his hands were by no means slow, and in this case his right hand had to move mere inches, snatching like a cobra for his opponent's throat.

His arm remained bent at the elbow - Ko was not far enough away to force Deitric to straighten his arm - and the hand immediately began to exert pressure once/if the grab was accomplished, his fingers digging into the sides of Ko's neck. The tribesman's grasp was like steel; strangling someone with one hand was by no means a hard feat for him to accomplish.

He didn't worry about choking Ko for any real period of time - his grasp might have been hard to escape, but with only one arm all Ko really had to do was move. Deitric's goal lay elsewhere. He wanted to disrupt the Yakuza's tempo and force him to change - it was hard to throw a punch with any sort of force behind it when someone was squeezing the life out of the puncher.

The warrior's face never seemed to change - there were sometimes expressions of pain or the like, but there was nothing in his face that could possibly explain what he did, or what he was going to do next. Whatever plans Deitric had, they were his own and he did nothing to reveal them.

[6]

33Vintrict

It was true. Ko's punches were decreasing in power. In fact, the asian was pretty much trading away power for mere speed. There was the philosophy that having just as many punches could equal a certain number of powerful punches. But that was neglectful against Deitric's steel-like body. There was simply no logic behind taking this route. Hitting Deitric this many times to even build up enough damage to make him fall was going to take way too long for the time limit on this fight. And Deitric could just keep on pushing and maybe even outlast Ko in a direct brawl. But the injun was getting bored. It seemed he wanted to change up the pace. So he went for a grab at the asian's neck in a very slick way.

And Ko retaliated. his left arm overhooking Deitric's right arm. His hand grabbed the underside of the man's bicep, then twisted to the left. Not only did this stop the choke hold (it did get contact), but it relieved the arm of most of its strength for the time being, that is until his opponent corrected the situation. It was probably startling how he was able to stop a move like that without showing any telegraphs. The secret was, Deitric actually telegraphed his move. Just not in a way he understood. But Ko did.

It was called Chi Sao. In Wing Chun, this meant sticky hands. It was a training mechanism that two partners did with one another to develop sensitivity upon contact with the arms. While rotating their arms and keeping them in contact in a constant circle, one person would randomly throw out a punch to try to hit the other. The second partner's job was to try to block this punch and redirect it. Over time, this developed muscle memory and allowed the practitioners to defend faster and more effectively without have to stand there and try to figure out what their opponent was doing. When Deitric was throwing his punches, Ko did not have to depend on reflexes or intuition to figure out what Deitric was going to do next. His arms were doing the job subconsciously, betrayed by his own body. When he tried to move his arm closer for the grab, Ko was able to tell due to the prolonged contact with his arm (from the block), and reacted appropriately.

After the countergrab, Ko's right fist struck fast at Deitric's throat. It was time to bring what he was trying to do to Deitric into the light.

Like a man who was living out his last few hours of life, Shinji puffed away nonchalantly at the rapidly-vanishing cigarette dangling lazily from his lips. As he did, his eyes seemed fixed in a thousand-yard stare, a stoic, sagely gaze, seemingly contemplative in nature. He just continued to puff away, now and then, until his smoke was gone, at which point he promptly flicked it into the breeze and called himself back to reality.

He took a step forward, toward the opposing team, hands still lodged nonchalantly in his pockets.

"So, I suppose I need to fight one of you guys."

He would announce, deliberately playing the role of captain obvious.

"So. C'mon then, might as well get a move on. Wouldn't wanna bore the kids watching at home, huh?" He asked, as his lips curled into a wry smirk, that same coy smile that was rapidly becoming his trademark.

"So, who's it gonna be?"

35The Thunder Tyrant

[Note to judges: Vintrict and I discussed the particulars of Ko's defense, or rather, the timing of it - basically, Ko's breaking of the choke is occurring after, rather than prior to or during the grab, to avoid confusion with timing. Vin may or may not edit his post, we settled the issue OOC and I said I'd put a tag in this post just to explain any potential confusion. We aren't at odds on the timing, we just sorted it out OOC and he's busy so an edit may/may not happen.]

Deitric wasn't too surprised his opponent managed to countermand the choke so quickly - people almost always responded strongly to being choked. It was hard to maintain deliberate action and the train of thought behind it when the brain was being deprived of oxygen.

The tribesman wasn't actually concerned with successfully choking his opponent - only that Ko would respond to it; Deitric hadn't wanted to get caught into a cycle that might make him relax or drop his guard even a little bit, and he wanted to be the one to disrupt the exchange.

Ko managed to break the choke but he was no where near from being out of hot water just yet. The man's right hand knuckled up against Deitric's chin with a dull smack, splitting the tribesman's lip and turning his head slightly aside with the blow. Deitric kept his chin tucked when he fought in close quarters; it was one of the basic tenets taught to stand up fighters and he had never violated it. It was that same fundamental aspect that explained why he never tried to punch Ko in the throat instead of the face in their exchange - it was hard to tell in the flurry of battle, but years of experience told him that other trained warriors usually tucked their chin just like he had been taught to.

Deitric's body seemed to turn slightly to the left with the blow, and with it came the fist of his free hand, rocketing forward to hammer Ko squarely in the ribs. While twisting his body might have helped increased his striking range, he was fortunate in that Ko had never stepped back from when he struck Deitric's torso - his own was still in striking range, even as he gave the tribesman a solid jab square in the mouth.

Thunderhammer - Aptly named for the sort of power delivered by the strike, this is one of Deitric's recently used techniques, and possibly one of the most self-destructive. Pooling whatever amount of energy he wishes to use into one arm, he releases it all at close range in a quick, straight, hammering motion.

The energy released is extremely concentrated, and the result is usually spectacular for the opponent, to say the least. The more energy, the more potent the blast, but the damage it does on Deitric as "backlash" quickly builds up, and can result in broken knuckles, fingers, or even a broken arm. Used up close almost exclusively.

Deitric had been letting his charge build since his first punch, and now he was pouring it all into his left arm - suddenly, the iron and shod fist was more than metaphorically a hammer. It was like a sledgehammer, set to smash into Ko's ribs with inhuman power. Ko was undoubtedly a tough opponent, but the man had to break sometime, and if there was no other time, then it would be now. There would be no electrical discharge - it was raw physical power, like a train full of steel and steam ready to plow through anything that was put in its way. Accuracy wasn't an issue - even if he were blind, Deitric had weathered enough strikes to know where to strike.

Ko had left himself open by trying to strike the black-haired brave in the throat - not because the tribesman was so fast that he could react to the punch as soon as Ko swung, or because he had perfectly anticipated his erstwhile opponent. He had certainly provoked a reaction from the Yakuza with the intent of using it, but he could never know exactly what the reaction would be. It was because Deitric reacted instinctively to pain as many fighters did. Men and women who were fighting fit often lashed out like animals when attacked, their "fight or flight" instinct replaced solely with "fight."

The "fight" instinct was switched on, and pain set it on edge like a wire pulled taut. It was like blinking in the face of a bright light - Deitric was aware he was doing it, but it was born of no conscious thought. There were esoteric names for it, philosophies built around it, but to the tribesman it was only ever instinct. Natural as nature itself. You fought long enough, you responded to danger or pain by trying to fight whatever hurt you.

Ko was fast - but they were still swinging point blank range, and his only means of blocking was currently mashing Deitric's bottom lip knuckle-deep into the brave's teeth with bloody results, and they had both adopted solid stances with the intent of not giving any ground to each other. The Asian might not have wanted to trade blows tit for tat, but it was Deitric's favorite game. Playing it with the tribesman was a gamble.

Ko had set his money on the table and made the gamble, and now he wanted to leave the table. But he couldn't get leave the game until he paid his dues.

Well, that was that. Deitric was throwing out lots of power with each punch, and Ko's stance was not the best. Maybe if he had anticipated the power the punch carried with it, he might have been able to do something. But it looked like the injun got the asian good. Not only that, but Deitric would finally get the relief of his offense. That punch would do more than just hit into his body. It would force Ko from the overhook he performed and caused him to go flying backwards. But there was one last thing he needed to do before he went on a trip through the air. His body was leaning backwards, but as time slowed down, a grin came to his face, keeping his right arm extended from the punch he threw.

Flick.

Once again, the zippo lighter in his right hand opened up, releasing the remaining fire at Deitric's body as he went sailing away from the man. Just a little gift to leave him with, to add more burns to that indestructible body of his. The fire would only be breathing on him for about half a second, but it was enough to bring more scorching to Deitric's already burned wounds.

The wooden platform teetered to the heavy bash of Ko's body, his right arm tensing up against his side where the blow had struck, which was the right side of the ribcage. He slid to a stop shortly afterwards, remaining on his back with his facing still toward his fire-struck opponent. The attack bruised his ribs, but they did not break. The material underneath his dress shirt made sure of that. It was an electrofiber-based suit, which provided a leather-like defense. It helped in cushioning blunt attacks, just enough to save him from a severe injury. Ko was not a skinny man, either, so he also had his own body to thank, too. A look of grimace had marked his face for a few moments, but it disappeared rather quickly as the asian pushed himself back to his feet as hastily as he could. His thumb flicked closed the lighter while continuing to hug his side.

And when he stood...he smiled.

When the Uluuk gave no immediate response to the question, Isabella stepped forward.

“By my companion’s hesitance, I presume that I will,” she replied, her lips twisting into a smile that mirrored the man’s own.

“If there are any stipulations you wish to implement, I suggest we get that out of the way now. I myself have none,” Isabella’s eyes shifted across the two unoccupied platforms. "You may also choose the location for our fight.”

[Sorry for the delayed response. Figured I would give my other partner a chance to jump at the challenge while I did school work.]

38The Thunder Tyrant

[You guys can have the fights be "time paradoxed" still so that everyone gets full use of the stage each time. And that way fights won't blunder into each other if they moved around the stage.]

For once, getting punched in the face had its advantages.

With his head turned to the side and his body twisting into the punch he had thrown, Deitric's face was out of the way of fire. The guttering flames washed over his left shoulder, neck, and the left side of his jaw, but had missed the important vitals. With Ko rapidly accelerating in the opposite direction, the intensity of the heat died rather quickly, but fire was fire.

Smoke rose from the tribesman's hair, which lay considerably shortened after being exposed to the flash of fire. Previously, Ko's fire had been focused on the front of the warrior's torso, and above the shoulders he had been uncomfortably hot, but not quite burned. Now, the skin along his left shoulder and the side of his neck was patchy, shining red, but weren't quite as bad as the burns on his abdomen. The shirt he had been wearing previously was in smoldering tatters after having the front and one side burned, so he simply pulled it away and let the wind carry it. The wind was cool at high altitudes, but it was a minor soothing to the dull, throbbing pain of his burns.

Deitric stared impassively at his opponent, idly curling his fingers and uncurling them. The fingers weren't broken - much like his opponent's ribs. He was no doctor, but he knew the feel of bones breaking beneath a blow, and that wasn't what he felt when he had struck Ko. Blood dribbled from the brave's split lip, but he didn't bother to wipe it away.

The warrior rolled his shoulders several times, acclimating himself to the feeling of the burns. Movement caused momentary stings, but the pain turned into a dull background sensation with enough movement, just like muscle fatigue. Thankfully, that hadn't set in yet - and neither had the pain of using his abilities. He had been relatively controlled, and didn't yet feel the need to cut the slow build up of power that developed in the wake of his most recent use. How many more times he could use it, he didn't know - but he knew it was better to use his abilities sparingly.

He waited for Ko to rise, and motioned with his hand for the Asian man to come forward. The gesture might have been misinterpreted - he wasn't telling the man to come and attack him, but rather to get away from the edge of the platform. Deitric doubted his opponent liked the possibility of falling off the "airship" anymore than he did.

[8]

39Vintrict

Ko let his arms settle down both of his sides. He rolled his shoulders, mainly his right arm to test the pain and tension generated through his body. His face ached from those constant blows and his right side throbbed. His right hand rose up and pressed against his chin, following with his head moving left and right to cause a few sounds of joints cracking to move through his neck. After performing these brief exercises, Ko cleared his throat, followed by pointing his right finger toward Deitric.

"Are you thirsty," he asked.

Fighting like they did was quite an exhausting moment of punching, and would easily call for a drink of water. Especially for Deitric. With all the adrenaline settling down, this was the time that the injun's body started to notice a few things. His throat was drier, his lips were crusting, the temperature in his body was rising, and he wasn't sweating at all. It was like one giant rush of a fever washing over him. The sensation was probably similar to what Deitric felt when he overloaded himself with his electrical powers. It was also how one felt when they had been exercising for too long in the gym. The injun should know the feeling well.

It was dehydration. Ko had cursed him with this simple ailment. First thing he did was inflict Deitric's body with fire, so that he could damage the skin and cause burns that would prevent the humanoid from sweating, along with a damage over time weakening to his body. It was also to burn away any clothing he had on, so that Ko was free to hit the man at his exposed flesh.

Which comes to the second reason Deitric would feel these abrupt hot flashes: every blow that Ko landed sapped away a portion of moisture from his body. This ability was given to him by his own spiritual ability known as the Way of Wood. That was exactly why he threw away power for mere speed. The more punches he landed, the more moisture he removed, as one punch was not enough to do anything to anyone. Add that to his burns, and you had yourself a way of dehydrating a person's body while destroying their muscles. He aimed for the stomach and kidney areas for a reason: knock out the middle anatomy of a human being and their foundation goes crumpling to the ground. Maybe Deitric would suddenly feel that he couldn't move from his spot as easily as before, due to the sudden lost of energy that his body once had. Aside from that, other symptoms that would be appearing would include nausea, dizziness, and lost of concentration.

He could probably already be feeling weariness overcoming him bit by bit, as the exhaustion climbed itself over the adrenaline Deitric was just feeling a few seconds ago. Oh, but it didn't end there. There was one more reason this was the best strategy to use against a man like his opponent: because his greatest strength was his greatest weakness. Seldom did anyone take advantage of the man hurting himself with his own powers, mainly because he was able to take down his enemies before they could take him down instead. His battle style was fierce, but it had its disadvantages. And using electrical powers were probably just as good at evaporating the water from Deitric's body as fire itself. He had only used a few electrical abilities so far, but what Ko did to him was going to limit him greatly unless he wanted to push himself to unconsciousness. Even a body like that had its boundaries.

That's right: if Deitric tried to even use his best moves, especially his famous Maelstrom Spiral, that was a one way trip to dreamland.

It was the age old philosophy: if you cannot harm a person through external means, attack through internal methods instead. Hurt their organs, cut their muscles, churn their insides. Attack what they cannot ever condition. And he didn't have to do it through those passive martial art styles such as Tai Chi or Ba Gua, either. Even with an iron fist, you could destroy a person from the inside.

( I suppose we'll function in time paradox rules, then? )

"Fair enough." Shinji would answer, though with a hint of surprise that it hadn't been the decidedly more angry-looking team-member who ended up stepping forward to accept his challenge. He was further surprised, then, as he mulled over the implications of the present situation, namely, fighting a girl.

"Huh. . ." He pondered aloud, as he took a series of lackadaisical forward steps, not drawing too near just yet. "I've never fought a woman before." He completed his thought, tentatively scratching the back of his head as his one-coy smirk curled into a somewhat more nervous smile. "I don't suppose you'd mind conceding? It'd really save me the trouble. . ."

It seemed, most of the time, people weren't libel to acquiesce his offer of concession of the match and surely here would be no different. Therefore, as he spoke, he went about the routine pre-fight process of wrapping his knuckles and forearms in protective cloth which he procured from a small satchel he carried slung over his shoulder. He would have wrapped his feet, ankles and shins already, saving himself the trouble ahead of time, though he chose to keep his old leather combat boots on. He could use the traction, he figured.

Shinji set his bag of supplies aside when he was done with it, placing it as far out of the way as possible, before returning his full attention to the woman who had stepped forward.

"So, how 'bout it? Maybe we could go out for a drink instead?"

Isabella smirked, shaking her head slightly in concert with a soft laugh.

“I am afraid not,” she replied calmly. “However, if you are hesitant about fighting me, I will not judge you for conceding yourself.”

There was a hint of amusement in her smooth voice, and the smile displayed across her lips suggested that she was likely joking about the latter part of what she just said.

Without much thought, Isabella reached for the clasp binding her cloak around her and unhooked it. However, instead of allowing the heavy article of clothing to slip off, she held onto the fastening for the time being.

“Before we begin, may I have your name?” Isabella’s voice raised some as she spoke, and in that very instant the wind coursing across the battle area forced the cowl of her cloak back.

Pallid scars marred Isabella’s otherwise lightly tanned flesh and plain feminine features. A head of blonde hair, tightly bound in a bun at the base of her skull, was revealed, and a sliver of what looked like a black marking of some kind peeked out from behind her right ear.

[I suppose so. I thought I read something that all three battles would be going on at the same time. Although my mind could have just made that up after reading that there were three separate platforms in this particular arena. I haven't looked at any of the others, so I don't know if its a common trend throughout all of them or not. ^^]

"Concede? Me? No way, if I actually have to fight to walk away with a win then so be it." The young man announced, his playful smirk returning once more.

"As for my name, well, it's Shinji. Tawara Shinji" He added. He had never put much stock into the formalities of a fight, and he had never really been one to announce names or shake hands or bow before a good brawl. He did enjoy fighting, regardless of his perceived laziness. "I suppose the common courtesy is for me to ask your name. . ." He then mused aloud, but he caught himself mid-sentence, "But, I don't really care." He added abruptly, scratching the back of his head once more he ran his fingers through his mop of unruly silver hair.

"Unless it's gonna have an impact on the fight, I don't really need to know."

As he spoke he finished the process of wrapping his fists and had meandered a couple steps forward, until there was a little more than a dozen feet between the two fighters as they stood on the foremost hanging platform, two more hanging precariously beneath. Now, then, he halted his modest advance, at the ready. It seemed.

"I guess we should fight now, huh?"

“That would be the likely conclusion to our current situation,” Isabella answered nonchalantly.

“Given you fixation, however slight it might have been, on my gender, might I presume that you will do the gentlemanly thing and allow me to make the first move?” Isabella did not bother to veil the smidgen of irritation in her voice as she spoke. The former Assassin was well aware of her gender and the formalities men frequently employed because of it. However, she had been raised in such a manner that gender meant nothing when it came to fighting – though clearly that was not the case with most of the people she encountered outside of her homeland.

Isabella waited for a response, releasing her grasp on her cloak as she did so, allowing it to slip off of her shoulders and onto the ground behind her. Beneath was a simple set of leather armor, covering her torso, as well as a smattering of other locations across her person – most notably her knees, which were also studded with dull metal. A pair of throwing knives rested along the left side of her belt, and across her back was strapped Gale, her greatsword.

46The Thunder Tyrant

Ko's time with the Yakuza had apparently failed to teach him one, singularly important lesson about combat - one's first plan never wholly survives contact with the enemy. The lesson nearly always rang true; especially when a plan was made with too many assumptions at hand. The less firsthand knowledge a tactician relied on, the more likely he was to push his own plans to failure.

To some degree, the Yakuza was successful - but perhaps not as much as he would have liked. Deitric didn't feel dehydrated - not in the traditional sense. Rather, the skin across the front of his abdominal muscles felt dry. The skin was calloused and darker than the surrounding skin, cracked and peeling away as if someone had given him an intense, long-duration sunburn.

The skin was more than dead; it looked dessicated. Each movement sent a spike of pain through his flesh, small amounts of bloody pus oozing out where the burning was the worst. Fatigue burned dully in the bruised muscles beneath, but it was localized, much like the strange transformation of his burns, which did not look at all like the patchy, red mars on his shoulder and neck. The tribesman no longer felt any pain in the topmost layer of skin that was peeling away, but those beneath felt dry and raw, and pain flared to life when he moved.

Grounding his teeth together, Deitric twisted slowly from one side to the other, taking deep-stomach breaths before exhaling to the point of sucking in his abs in a vacuum pose. He was deliberately cracking the skin to get the pain over with before they began fighting again, so he could get used to moving with it. It was a different kind of damage - fatigue and pain, like a pressure that could break a man, in due time, never mind the immediate feeling of rawness and suffering.

But Ko was giving him a moment of respite by talking and not attacking - perhaps not the best idea when fighting a man like Deitric. He couldn't replace energy (or skin, as it were) lost, but he could regain focus and become more acclimated to the pain. To men who had never fought it might not have seemed like much, but time meant a great deal to those in pain.

It meant even more when it came to Deitric's particular abilities - the longer Ko gave him, the easier of a time he had gathering energy without being under undue pressure.

"Perhaps you should fight more and talk less," the dark-skinned tribesman chided his opponent. Not that he minded. The Yakuza could go ahead and yammer and jabber all he wanted. He was only making things worse for himself in the end.

"Go ahead, take the first move if you'd like." Shinji answered with a shrug. He was entirely unarmored, it seemed, with the possible exception of the studded leather jacket he wore upon his broad shoulders, a fashion statement clearly taken from one Deitric Jocasta. Old, white-washed and torn jeans accompanied his outfit, as well as the similarly old, worn combat boots upon his feet. Shinji was a big kid, also in the likeness of his team captain he was a couple inches over six feet and though his body was clearly well-muscled and physically powerful, his frame was lean and slender. What muscle he did possess was of a wiry, sinuous quality, not limiting his movement with overly-unnecessary bulk. To assume he was a simple, slow-paced brawler would be a grave mistake. He paused, then, for a moment, to crack his wrapped knuckles, creating a resounding pop. Perhaps for dramatic effect, before he spoke up again.

"But, just 'cause 'yer a girl doesn't mean I won't try and break you in two. Just 'cause I haven't fought a girl before doesn't mean you're special."

Shinji was usually rather care-free and nonchalant about combat, but now his hazel-brown eyes leveled into a serious gaze. He wanted to make it clear that there would be absolutely no easy ride for her, on the basis of her gender, or anything else. Perhaps others fought with some sort of gentlemanly code of honor, and perhaps Shinji lacked that, but more likely it was out of respect for her abilities that he uttered the following phrase:

"You're not getting off easy just 'cause 'yer a girl." He announced, crystallizing his aforementioned belief. Just because he hadn't fought a girl before didn't mean he was scared to break her nose or snap her arm. On the contrary, if she was an entrant in this tournament she had better expect it, Shinji thought to himself.

He saw no reason to 'go easy on her'. As it where.

Comparative to his opponent, Shinji was entirely unarmed. Or so it seemed. Though it was unlikely that he had concealed weapons somewhere on his person it wasn't as if the lack of a weapon was slowing him down or putting him at a notable disadvantage. Rather, he slipped into a lazy boxing stance, drawing his left fist up it would rest about jaw-level while his leading right arm remained low, bent at the elbow a little above his waistline. Hopping onto the balls of his feat he shifted his momentum forward, then back, then forward once more, in subtle bounces.

"C'mon then, let's get this over with." He spoke in a more up-beat tone of voice as he made a beckoning motion with his leading right hand before returning it to it's previous position as if his hand were saying, 'come get some'.

His lips curled into his trademark grin for a moment, as his gaze mellowed into a calm, collected almost business-like expression. He was prepared.

“Thank you.”

Two simple words, spoken with such softness and earnest appreciation that it was difficult to believe they had come from such a tall and powerfully built adolescent. Shinji had given Isabella exactly what she wanted from this fight: mutual respect, and an attitude that told her, he was not going to hold back just because she was of the opposite gender. Her features smoothed into a neutral, uninteresting mask as she settled her deep brown eyes on her opponent.

Isabella began this battle like she did every one before it. Her right arm raised as she reached behind her, lightly brushing the tip of her gloved digits across the weathered hilt of her weapon an instant before gripping the handle. However, unlike the majority of her fights prior to this one, the adolescent warrior snapped the latch binding the large blade to the sheath across its wielder’s backside. It was a rare occasion that Isabella started with her greatsword already drawn, and although Shinji may not realize it, her doing so was a sign of great respect.

Gale, the name of the former assassin’s large sword, cut through the air with incredible ease, as if it was guided by the wind itself. Like other weapons of its kind, the Sky Blade extended a full sixty-five inches in length. Its translucent silver/blue blade made up the bulk of that, measuring an exact fifty inches, the hilt making up the remaining fifteen. Unlike other greatswords, Gale weighed roughly two pounds more – although this did not stop the six foot one Isabella from wielding in one hand as if it weighed nothing.

Clearly the adolescent combatant was strong, and only a fool would think to deny it. However, physical strength was not Isabella’s only attribute; although it was difficult to tell what else she was capable of at a glance, it would not take an experienced warrior to realize that she was also reasonably durable and most likely quite agile.

Isabella took a carefully measured step forward with her left foot, extending the gap between each of her booted feet to just shy of shoulder width. Her upper body swiveled at the waist, shifting about until the left side of her body was centered on Shinji and her right was the furthest part of her from him. With practiced ease, the adolescent warrior drew her weapon through the air behind her, rotating the large sword through a short flourish. Her left hand rested a quarter of an inch above her hip, unfurled with its palm facing the floor and hovering a finger’s length away from the hilt of one of the former assassin’s two throwing knives.

The Sky Blade was drawn through another brief flourish, and a barely audible humming roiled around Isabella in response. She too was prepared, and was already beginning…

"That's a big sword. . ." Shinji pondered, already doing a bit of mental mathematics. The range of this fight would most likely be somewhat different than he was used to, than his previous fights. As far as he could remember, at least during his time on Gaia, he had fought in predominantly close-quarters affairs, but that style would become somewhat more complex now that his opponent had such a reach advantage. These thoughts knocked around in his head for a while longer, before he came to a consensus.

Calm, brown eyes leveled off straight ahead, as Shinji's gaze settled upon his opponent's center body mass, within his peripheral vision he had a good view of her entire body, including the movement of her arms and legs. As she drew her weapon, the former-monk slipped out of his lazy boxing stance into a more orthodox Chinese one. His leading right palm would extend outward while his left hand would remain open, though retracted to waist-level. The right foot would take the lead, as his left shifted back, creating a sturdy base. This was Xingyiquan.

"Deep breath. . ." He thought to himself. His opponent seemed content to wait, regardless of the fact that she had desired the first move. For now, Shinji was content to remain where he was as well. He closed his eyes as he drew one deep breath, exhaling it shortly after. The cool breeze kept his silver bangs dancing about his brow while, just for a moment, he did nothing. Or, at least, so it seemed. However it appeared externally, internally Shinji had begun as well. He maintained his rigid-seeming stance, while an upwelling of sorts occured.

Chakra, a compound metaphysical force, is composed of spiritual energy, or chi, which Shinji was now garnering from within. Chi itself would have been molded and remolded over years of study, practice and meditation, it was strengthened by academic study, something Shinji regularly found time for, perhaps even more-so than his physical training regimen. In regards to physical training, internal physical energies garnered from the strength and stamina of his body would simultaneously ebb forth from within. The compound force of chakra would result instantaneously, though in meager reserve for the moment. Chi, that spiritual energy from within, would be combined with the physical energy of the body to create chakra which now expounded forth from an expansive chakra circulatory system within the former-monk.

Outwardly, without the aid of some sort of magical, mystical eyesight, it would seem Shinji were doing nothing more than a simple breathing exercise. His eyes would open, and the process of gathering or "charging" his chakra had begun. If she wanted the first attack, it was there for her to take. If now, Shinji was content for the moment to gather his strength, it was a welcome moment of peace in what he had presumed would be the hectic start to a hectic fight.

"This is nice. . ." He thought aloud, his voice as serene and calm as one would expect the voice of Buddha to be.

Ko chuckled as he let his arm fall back to his side.

"Perhaps."

A flash of spiritual energy washed over his body again before disappearing. Another spiritual change had occurred. His arms punched rapidly in front of him as preparation. And finally, he stepped quickly toward Deitric, keeping his right arm rose ahead with the left arm a little lower at chest level. His right foot was always further than his left, every single hand and feet being kept in a strict centerline of his body.

Then all of a sudden, Ko's left leg fell onto its knee, followed by Ko slamming his right hand downward against the wooden platform. And his left followed, then his right, then his left again. The chain of punches, along with their speed, was just like what he did to Deitric just a few moments ago, except this time he was rambling the floor like a drum. The sound of wood being struck rained constantly through the air. His fists weren't concentrated in just the area in front of him, but also to the right and left positions, while still keeping their range ahead of him (basically, straight ahead, straight ahead right, then straight ahead left; a cone-shaped area).

And then he stopped about two seconds later, slight dust blowing away as a result of tenderizing the boards. As the wind blew and the airship moved throughout the air, Deitric would pick up another sound that followed after the rambling ended.

C-C-C-CREAAAAAAAKKKK.

The boards underneath his feet were feeling...shaky. It was bad enough that they were haphazardly thrown onto one another then nailed down as if they would withstand the weight of at least three people. But after what Ko just did, the boards were starting to teeter more and creak more consistently as the air blew through. He probably didn't notice from their positions, but Ko had removed each and every nail that his hand could find immediately in front of him. The Way of Metal made it easy for him to manipulate the shoddy nails and remove them like the wood they were pushed into was merely clay. This way, if Deitric made one movement where he stood, a large section around him would go falling downward onto the second platform, with the unnailed side of course leading the way in an angled manner.

51Glass Raivyn

Gale glided through the air uninterrupted, a faint, almost crystalline hum forming in its wake. By now, Isabella had fallen into a steady rhythm, rotating the large weapon at a comfortable speed as not to overexert the muscles in her right arm too early into the fight. Even now, the adolescent warrior could feel the strain the continuous motion was putting on her wrist – although she was more than capable of handling a little discomfort.

Unlike the sword’s previous owner (Isabella’s own father), the former assassin did not yet possess the necessary skills to draw on Gale’s extensive capabilities over the Element of Air on a whim. In her nevertheless trained hands, the Sky Blade required some coaxing.

She could feel the greatsword’s power swelling more now than an instant ago, and Isabella knew that in a short span of time Gale would be ready to deliver exactly what its wielder wanted.

A soundless breath of air slipped out from between the adolescent’s lips. Her eyes remained on her opponent, watching him as he stood there and breathed. The former assassin could make a thousand different guesses (a slight exaggeration, but nonetheless) as to what Shinji was doing.

For now, Isabella focused on the task of bringing her sword’s power to bear. Shinji had offered her the first move. However, in her mind, she had already taken it by beginning Gale’s constant flourish only a scant few seconds ago.

Isabella moved only slightly, and only to reaffirm her balance. Otherwise, nothing about her previously established posture changed…

52The Thunder Tyrant

Deitric began to back away and circle from his opponent, not unlike a snake sidewinding is way through the sand, looking for the right time to strike. Initially, he was perplexed at the other man's actions, but that didn't last for long.

The brave could practically see what little rigidity and structure the platform had begin to deteriorate, save for the places where the boards had been glued together, rather than nailed. Not that he could do anything about it - the platform was growing more rickety by the moment. But there was no use crying over spilled milk.

The haphazard way that they were put together meant that even though there was still a bit of distance between the two men - roughly eight or teen feet - that much of the platform had become rickety, simply for lack of uniform construction. Boards criss-crossed and fit awkwardly together; nothing was even or equal in build or shape. The platforms looked like someone had cobbled them together out of the odds and ends of a DIY construction store's wood selection.

The platform was already pockmarked with holes - Ko was doing an excellent job of compounding that problem. At the rate he was going, the platform could capsize at any moment, or even collapse on them. Neither of these were things Deitric liked to ponder, and he didn't think it wise to fight on the platform any longer. A faint change in hue flashed in his eyes as he disappeared.

So, he leaped. Specifically, the dark-skinned tribesman jumped right off the platform, using the not-inconsiderable brawn of his legs to throw himself right off the edge. The platform buckling beneath his legs (which robbed some force from his leap, but not enough to stop him) as the force of his push-off toppled and dislodged several planks, leaving the kneeling Yakuza to deal with the mess of the collapsing platform, which was now something of a trap for the Asian who would have to find his own way off the airship's rapidly deteriorating top level.

To Ko, it must have seemed as if the fighter had simply disappeared, like he jumped off into the great blue beyond without a care for the fight. In truth, he had grabbed one of the myriad lengths of rope that hung all about and swung down to the bottom-most tier of the air-ship - the second one was as unsafe as the first, but for much different reasons.

He knew Ko couldn't come down on the same end he had - too much space had separated the two, and if he couldn't maneuver around on the rickety platform any longer, neither could the Yakuza. That left three other sides - which, for the most part, he could see. He stood on the platform, a few feet from an edge with the sky to his back - listening, rope lax in hand. The subtle darkening of Deitric's eyes came from the switch from normal eyesight to infrared, so he could see if the man landed on the platform above through the myriad of gaps and slats - wood had no inherent heat, but he could glimpse body heat in the open spaces if Ko didn't take a rope down like the brave had.

London bridge came falling down.

Deitric moved, causing the platform area around his position to collapse just like intended. But his opponent saw his intentions, and instead decided to take the leap by himself. Interestingly, he not only took the fall himself, but he practically leapt off the side to fall even further to the point that he only had the ropes to grab a hold of. Ko watched as he disappeared beyond the second platform, then pursued, leaping from the top level to the second one. Wood pounded the surface as more of the top level broke apart piece by piece, each board pulling down the next one it was connected to. All Deitric heard above was just more collateral destruction.

Ko could tell that his opponent had grabbed onto the ropes to save himself. It was not only the most common sense thing to do, but he saw the wild jerks the ropes made, as they rose upwards toward the balloon above. So, it looked like his injun friend wanted to take this fight to a different venue. Or rather, he wanted to test the asian's capabilities against a death-defying fight in the sky. There was no trampolines or soft landing waiting for them below. Or at least, he did not see any. No netting, no nothing. So what did the triad think about that?

Well, he unbuttoned his cuffs, rolled up his sleeves, then jumped off, too, like the crazy guy he was. His right hand grabbed a rope on the way down; and like an acrobatic swashbuckler, he swung in a large arc downward, his white tie and fine black hair fluttering in the wind, holding onto the rope with just one hand out of sheer skill. It seemed like all of this was natural for a down-to-earth guy like Ko. Who would expect someone who grew up in the city to use a rope with such bravery and lack of fear. He was on his way toward Deitric from behind, since his back was facing the sky. It looked like he was about to ram right into him at the speed he was going.

Ko extended both of his feet forward, going for an aerial dropkick, while releasing the rope just when he arrived at the platform. He let momentum carry him the rest of the way. He wanted to see just how much he managed to injure his opponent. He wanted to push him even further than before and pursue that weakness, as if a shark smelling spilled blood in the waters. He was a member of Iron Tempest. And their goal was to claim victory by any means possible. Even if it meant destroying peoples' bodies with cars and fire.

Fortunately for Deitric, Ko had perhaps grown lax in his opinion of the tribesman. Was the Triad beginning to underestimate his opponent? Had he, like others before him, assumed that simply because the Khasmin man came from a foreign, barbarian land that he was all brawn and no brain, or that the sole talent he had was waging war?

It was a mistake to underestimate any opponent - if Ko didn't respect Deitric's capabilities, he would learn to. Fighters were humble, or they were humbled.

Against Ko's hopes, Deitric did hear the difference between the deeper, baritone thud of a weighed, vertically aligned body hit the second platform amidst the falling wood. Wood made a particular tock sound against other wood, a person bodily landing on a wooden surface made a louder sound that fell somewhere between a bang and a thud. Not that Deitric knew these noises by heart, only that he could tell one was not like the other.

Abilities Wrote:

Hearing: Deitric's hearing is not above averaged, but he is a trained tracker, and can [i]pick out specific sounds from a tumult of noise.

The tribesman had often hunted simply to survive, meaning his senses always had to be well-trained to the task at hand. His hearing was no more advanced than any other human's; he could no better hear higher frequencies or lower. But what he could do was differentiate sound, and he did it very well. He had to - the difference between a man rustling in the underbrush and a deer could be the difference between feathering a meal with your arrow, or your kinsman.

His skill wasn't singular to him, or even to his people. Soldiers abroad could distinguish the difference between various calibers of gunfire and artillery, even in the midst of a massive bombardment or hectic gunfight. The ability to pick out and identify noises was not unique, although it did require a certain level of aptitude.

What's more, even without his hearing, he had been proactive in his descent - his eyes were turned upwards, and he saw the thermal radiation off of his opponent's body through the gaps and slits between the planks of the second platform like morning sunlight through a window's blinds. Unlike a well-made deck, which would have had each wooden slat fitted to the other, these platforms were shoddily made and gaps big and small weren't uncommon. Admittedly, the Asian's heat-mark flashed in and out of sight as he moved across the platform, but the black-haired fighter could follow his movements nonetheless. When it began moving quickly towards the side - the same side that Deitric had himself leaped off of - the tribesman knew what he had in mind. It wasn't hard to guess; coming in from that side held no other purpose other than an attempted attack from behind. And by the way one of the ropes jangled and swung away from the platform, he could guess which one his opponent had grabbed.

When Ko swung in towards the platform, he would find that his opponent was facing him with a bemused expression on his face, and that the tribesman had backed away from that edge to the opposite end and off to the left, well out of the other man's potential strike zone. If the Asian tried to let go of the rope and smash into the brave, he would fall far from his mark, and even if he could risk re-aiming, Ko would find himself without the element of surprise. Deitric could have possibly attempted an attack when his opponent swung in, but the risk of missing was too great. Better to wait for more suitable opportunity.

"Perhaps you would do better in the circus than in the fighting ring."

55a simple simulacra

( Yup, not a problem :3 )

It seemed his opponent didn't want to make the first move after all, something Shinji was on the fence about. However it looked, or rather, however he looked, he wasn't a simple brawler, there was actually a functioning mind behind the facade of lazy, carelessness. And, it was quite a high-functioning one, at that. Here and now, he recognized the advantage a giant sword could create, and he also recognized that charging in headlong would be hazardous. It seemed his opponent was quite adept at quickly utilizing that large sword, and Shinji's eyes shifted their focus from the center of her body toward the sword itself, tracing it's movements as he retained his seemingly-rigid stance, that of Xingyiquan.

It was silent, then, for awhile. Drama building to a climax, it suddenly seemed as if the two were locked in some sort of Clint Eastwood style shootout.

"Well, looks like we got ourselves some sort'a Mexican Standoff. . ." Shinji thought aloud with a slight grin.

"And I don't plan on running into that big sword of yours. . ." He added, though in the form of a mental notation.

So, he would continue the process of gathering his chakra. At least for the moment. He would have enough, soon enough and until then so long as his opponent didn't mind he would continue to accrue it. Energy would fluctuate within, traversing the multitudinous coiled lengths of the chakra circulatory system, creating a cyclical rotation of energy within. For the moment, this rotation was calm, serene like Shinji's outward expression. But, his intent was to harness the energy he was subtly gathering to knock his opponent out of the fight.

And so. He waited.

Ko did not have anyone to hit as Deitric backed away, so he changed up his move a little. It still had the same movement of letting go with his feet sticking out, but its only purpose this time was allowing the asian to strike the pavement with his feet, then roll to ride out the rest of the momentum until he stopped in a kneel. He faced his opponent as he stood up, having a hand pull a little at the knob of his tie to make sure it was still relatively in place.

He raised a brow at the man's comment about him being in the circus, flashed his eyes to the side for a brief second as if he was thinking, then ran toward Deitric across the shaky platform. This was the last level that they had to transverse. Unless they found their way back up to the second level, there was nothing but ropes and ground below if this platform met the same fate as the first. But here Ko was, intentionally stomping away against the ground with no thought of that; or maybe he was thinking about it. His eyes kept himself from running into any holes. Didn't want to trip or have one of his feet falling accidentally into one of them.

Then it happened once again. Another shift in Ko's energies. The energy came then went away, Ko's target range being three to four feet in front of Deitric, so he could stop and raise his dukes up in his usual stance, waiting for a good time to strike. In all honesty, Ko had been underestimating Deitric for the entire match. Not once did he see the man as an opponent to worry about. He was able to use lightning and had won many battles before. But that did not mean a thing to Ko because the asian was a different opponent. He was not anyone else the injun had fought. He was Ko Yuen. He either earned his right to impress Ko or remain stagnated behind his pride. Nothing was going to stop the asian from hurting the injun until the bell rings. His confidence had not been broken.

It was also because Ko went into the fight with strategies, while Deitric was mainly riding on instinct. Not saying that he doesn't have one, but the fight so far had proved the fruit of the asian's efforts. A person with a plan could focus more on pushing forward than someone who had to watch and calculate what was going on to try to figure out what to do next. And against a slick person like Ko, the injun had to worry about both the expected and the unexpected.

12

57The Thunder Tyrant

Deitric didn't look particularly worried about his opponent. In truth, Ko had done very little in comparison to past opponents, and what little he had done was not impressive. Less so because he just kept feeding the tribesman time to recover, acclimate, and build up his power. Whatever stratagems the Triad had used, or planned on using, were being thrown to the wayside because he wasn't keeping enough pressure on the tribesman to bother him.

The warrior's vision shifted back to the visible-light spectrum as he watched Ko approach, his left thumb hooked into one of the belt loops of his pants. Almost casually, he moved his right foot as if he were going to step forward and meet his opponent, who was now running dead on towards Deitric.

CRICK

Deitric's single step came down on one of the planks with surprising force. The eight foot length of wood dislodged itself from where a nail had kept it in place, and the opposite end rose up with surprising speed as the end near the brave went down, rising right in Ko's path. If the Asian man didn't check his speed, move to one side or the other, or otherwise get out of the way, the plank's tip would catch him square in the stomach.

The attack was - at best - a distraction, he didn't expect it to actually hit the other man. But he wasn't looking to harm Ko just yet; it appeared as if he were trying to keep the man at bay, perhaps to loose one of his infamous bolts of lightning. But appearances could be deceiving - what the tribesman had planned, or what he intended to do was still not readily apparent.

[12]

58Vintrict

Pressure wasn't always as easy to read as black and white. It existed on many levels, from straightfoward offense to more indirect means of dishing it out. Just because Ko wasn't pounding his face like before didn't mean he wasn't being pressured. It just meant that Deitric was trying to bide time for his offenses, but still was being forced to act regardless against each manuever Ko performed. The next proof of this was his feet striking into a plank, causing it to rise up on a collision course for the triad.

And Ko answered with his own foot. His left foot stepped forward amidst his running. Instead of hindering him, Ko used the risen plank as a stepping stone, which allowed him to go flying the rest of the way. His height above the ground wasn't much, but it was enough to get him to Deitric's position by the time he would land. And the first thing he did as he soared toward his opponent was have his right fist be pulled back at the peak of his jump, and aimed a punch at the dark-skinned warrior's face on the way down. He even posed in the air as he did this, right leg bent and left leg straight while making the face like that of an action star showing their teeth for the camera.

13

59The Thunder Tyrant

KILLING IN THE NAME OF

Up and over came Ko - if it was a surprise to anyone, it wasn't to his dark-skinned opponent. The plank was an obstacle, meant to make the Triad move. Deitric had, in his mind, given the man four options; to move back, left, right, or over. Ko, being an aggressive fighter, chose the last option; the one that had the most risk and most potential gain attached to it. He didn't blame his opponent for the choice. It was the one he would have made, albeit he would have made it differently.

Ko soared through the air like a human spear, but the warrior wasn't going to give any ground - his hands were up, ready to repel his opponent as the Asian's fist led the way towards his face. He looked almost as if he were going to catch the Asian right out of the air - something not at all out of the realm of possibility for someone of his strength. Deitric bobbed to his left, the fist narrowly missing his face as he moved just outside of it.

For a small, singular moment in time, the two men were within arm's reach--

KRACKA

--a flash of light and a wave of heat warping the air--

BOOM

And then they weren't. The tribesman had waited until Ko was practically on top of him - within punching range - to cast his attack. The lightning bolt hadn't manifested with his hands, as most people generally liked to think it would when they faced Deitric, but instead had seemed to shoot forth from the area directly in front of his face, aiming to catch his opponent across the upper half of his face - the forehead and the eyes, rather than directly in the center. If viewed in slow motion, the lightning would have had a slight arc to as it moved, going right over the shoulder of Ko's outstretched arm on its way to the man's face.

There had been - at best - two or three feet between the two men's faces. Ko was quick, both of wit and body, that much was certain. But Deitric doubted there was a man alive who could block or dodge his lightning bolt at that range; it might not have been as fast as Mother Nature's brand of lightning, but it was still much fast. Faster than a car, and faster than a man, that much was for sure. Not even the supernaturally fast Kindred he fought in the finals of the GTB IV was fast enough to do anything about it, and that was an opponent who had possessed freakishly unnatural speed.

Unfortunately for the Triad, he lacked any sort of grounding, and he was struck in the face; if the charge touched flesh, then there was nothing stopping the severe, debilitating electrocution that was to come. If Ko wore armor - in truth, Deitric didn't know - it wouldn't do much unless it covered his face; like rubber, non-conductive protective material only worked at the site of transference. Even if Ko had a means of dissipating the electricity, it wasn't going to stop the heat or force behind it.

And, in truth, those were worse than the electrical aspects. Deitric's lightning bolt wasn't fatal, meaning that the shock could be exceedingly painful, but it might not cause a great deal of neurological damage. The heat of the energy transference was the real threat; it could blister and char skin far easier than the Asian's clever little lighter, and the force of the transference that could bodily bowl someone over. Ko was going to be lucky to be in any sort of fighting condition - the flash of light had probably temporarily blinded both of them, but the burns and electrocution could have permanently put the Triad's eyes out of commission, not to mention the effects on the brain that came with being electrocuted and essentially smashed into the face with no ground to stand on and absorb the shock. The force wasn't enough to throw Ko away, but it was enough to break a nose or two, which could spell trouble when he had already taken two severe blows to the skull.

Even if Ko could anticipate the attack from watching videos of his opponent's previous fights, he couldn't have guessed when it would come: Deitric's transformation upon rebirth had left him fundamentally different than many Gaians. He had no energy signature to read; no chakra, no chi. An age old monk could turn their esoteric gaze on the brave and see nothing more than a man no matter how much wisdom he possessed.

Both men were most likely momentarily blind, but Deitric was used to the sensation - it didn't stop him from continuing moving to his left, where he knew there were relatively few holes of any real size; the bonus of defensive posturing was knowing your terrain. His arms were upraised out of natural caution, but the chances of Ko retaliating physically immediately after being blinded and struck by lightning were slim to none - for one, neither man knew where the other was, exactly, and wouldn't until they regained their vision.

For the time being, the two men would be forced to wait - fighting without sight wasn't exactly easy, or effective.

[13]

60Vintrict

Ko's fist flew home toward Deitric, but a white color flashed next between them as his fist struck through air. The air thundered with the transfusion of electrical discharge, causing a series of white sparks to radiate from the point of impact. Ko landed soundly onto the wooden platform, more of the electrical bolts going off his body until it all ceased. Thus, the nature of lightning. It left as fast as it came. Smoke rose upwards from Ko's head, drying a lot of the moisture in his hair to the point that it changed into bed hair.

It was not surprising that Deitric did this. He wanted to charge up some juice and let it loose in an effort to take down his opponent. His usual tactics. And they worked. Yet, fate dealt a joker card when Deitric believed he had pulled out an ace.

He only got the job half done.

It was only the right side of Ko's face that was stung with electrical burns. His right arm had punched out strongly to try to nail his opponent in the face with that leaping power. In reaction to the punch, his opponent had dodged himself to the left before releasing his little trick. The lightning bolt was a smart one, which carried over his shoulder to still aim at his face. It would have been better if his arm was able to take that attack. The material under his suit would have done well to damper some of that power.

Ko stumbled backwards as his teeth gritted, muscle spasms moved through his face, and his eyes shut as the lightning laser beams hit into his eyesight. His hand rested over his burning right eye, blind to the world, whereas his left eye had barely missed the same fate. He didn't know what condition it was in, but this was clearly going to call for a doctor after the fight was over.

Calm down, Ko. Think. Thiiiiink. He was still in a fight. Hitting him in the eyes with a stroke of electricity was part of Deitric's plan. If he panicked now, he lost. This fight was all about keeping your composure, especially on a riggedy platform like this. Anger boiled up in his body, but he couldn't let it override his most important senses. So the asian calmed his face, relaxed his stance, and spread his arms. A migraine was slowly building up in his head, because having electricity hit your eyes was not the best feeling in the world, especially to the nervous system. This called for traditional, short term methods of ancient Chinese meditation techniques (hehe, long right?).

Inhale...exhale.

The "Way of Fire" ability currently going through his body was being disturbed by this predicament, but was being counter-balanced with relaxation by Ko's meditation. His skin was a darker red than the slight tan that he had before, as heat accumulated upon his body.

Inhale...exhale.

The headache was excruciating. The world going dark was a fearful thing for many fighters. Fortunately, Ko had training in this type of scenario before. Couldn't be a notorious martial artist in the Triads without such crucial training. Someone could hit the lights any minute in a business meeting between gangs, and that could be the difference between life and death.

Inhale...exhale.

The ringing in his ears were dying down. The oldest Chinese masters were able to take control of their body's internal workings and actually do things such as remove feeling from one limb to dislodge it from a submission or even stop their heart for a brief moment. Ko was not able to do feats like that, but he got the logic behind it. Breathing exercises naturally calmed breathing and reduced your heart rate. But with his training, he had a better handle on it, able to do it a lot more quickly.

"I know you want to. Come and get me. Cause I swear it will be your last chance."

"Yo."

Antonio had taken a moment to get his bearings. The whole thing was pretty surreal, seemed more like something out of a Dali painting than a place for warriors to do battle. Oh well, the Diavolo family wasn't the most noble of Roma's remaining patriarchs. Still, Antonio felt he was a cut above most of these plebeians - only a few had struck any sort of chord in him at all. Ko colored him impressed, and this opponent of his looked like he had a shred of scruples in him, in startling contrast to Rakgan and that Deitric fellow.

Until, of course, the aristocrat ripped through his own fine silks as if they were threadbare rags, revealing the rippling contours of his battle armor. Antonio flinched inwardly at anyone so barbarous. He wore his usual athletic outfit, collar turned up, hands lost in the pockets of his black slacks. He slipped a cigarette out of the pack and pressed it into the gem-encrusted pommel of his jian. A few seconds later and a thin trail of smoke rose up from its cherry tip, and he brought it up to his lips in time for a long drag.

He figured by the time he exhaled he would have given his opponent a chance to react.

"So," he drawled, rolling his neck and cracking his knuckles. He brushed a strand of blond hair away from his face, impassive red eyes unblinking. He took up a neutral stance, in one smooth gesture unsheathing his jian. The tassel dangled at the end of its hilt, and the dull ricasso gave the weapon a kind of menacing edge. One jab from those could get rid of an eye quite handily.

"What did you join this tournament for, amigo?" He swung the Chinese blade in a test arc through the air, getting a feel for it. After all, soon it would be tasting something a lot richer than air, figuratively and literally. Antonio could just imagine the way it would bite into his opponent's flesh, steel on skin, that wonderful squelching sound followed by a guttural scream. His last fight had been a bitter disappointment; there hadn't even been any blood to speak of.

"The money..."

He kicked aside a lunchbox that sat near his foot, scattering the contents - two bananas and what appeared to be a half-eaten sandwich - across the deck.

"Or the bitches..."

His lips curled up into a faint smirk at the thought of bronze-skinned concubines draping themselves over him. There wasn't much that appealed to Antonio Diavolo more than money and sexy women. Well... there was one thing.

"Or the fame?"

He spat out a glob of saliva and phlegm. It entered a half-full bucket of purple paint with a faint dinging noise that was lost to the vicious winds. Damn workers, always bringing along more than they even needed. Excess was one of the things Antonio hated. One of the many things he hated.

"Myself, I just came 'cause I'm a hero, y'know?" Nothing like starting a duel off with a boost to one's own ego.

That was the Diavolo trademark, after all, right alongside the clan motto (kill things and have a good time doing it), and the slogan (our name means demon and we're like cliche archetypes of them too!), and for good measure the widely-revered bloodline's signature aphorism (you can never have too many mottos).

"Say, what's your name, anyway? Might as well start things off on the right foot, since by the end of this shindig you won't be standing at all."

Spooky slowly turned his head away from the beast that he had been preparing to fight once another man began to speak. What nonsense was this? Oh, so the big guy wasn't going to be fighting him after all? What a waste. It would have been fun riding his gargantuan body down to the earth below in a tumbling duet of death. Phaw. His emotions were a tornado once he quickly began to realize that there in all likelihood wouldn't be a person trying to tear him limb from limb.

Wait...

Now he began to speaking, some inane prattle that Spooky was mute too. There was just buzzing in his ears behind this helmet and the shield of his most bizarre psyche. It was better this way. Euphoria began to envelope and and pour through every layer of muscle in his body. He once again found himself in a state of stabilization. His eyes had honed in on the thing once it reached for a cigarette; suddenly it dawned upon him that he had forgotten his smokes. And then he began to draw from the cancerous habit that many indulged in. Though... there had been no match, or lighter. Spooky smiled.

An interrogation was it? He was no clucking hen but this thing speaking in garbled tongues and mute whines did. Already he was annoyed, and the seed of annoyance had been planted. With proper watering it would grow into a Tree of Rage from which there would be suitable bounty for malicious intent. The right hand of his suit tightened and balled as his patience wained but finally the noise had stopped. His mouth formed a reply that his brain had no part in.

"My name is Matthew 16:28. But I am apparently also..."

His fist rose upward to display the FIGHTER that had been attached to the wrist.

"Marius."

The threat attached to the preceding sentence would not win his opponent any points. Each jab made at an annoyed Spooky only resulted in further punishment. With this suit it would not be a joy to be on the receiving end of the psycho's messianic wrath. He knew there was fire somewhere, or at the very least heat at the disposal of his opponent. Also judging by his cocky speech, rampant ego, and physical features; Spooky knew this man was not human. Good. He didn't have to go easy on him. Though the eyes were a dead ringer for one of two things, hell it might have been both: faggy vampire or faggy demon. Lovely.

[OOC: I was referring to their personalities being similar to those of demons (bloodthirsty and such), not that they actually were demons.]

Antonio grimaced when he realized his opponent wasn't the talkative type. His head dipped a centimeter, the most he was willing to offer as far as a nod went. The cigarette dipped in his mouth, pointing haphazardly to the ground. He realized that his left hand was still clutching the neck of the Chinese liquor that Ko had given him, over half full. Whatever it was, it managed to be potent, relaxing, and incredibly high in ethanol all at once. Or maybe Antonio was starting to hallucinate that all alcohol he came across these days was high in ethanol.

He wouldn't be surprised, especially now that he was standing on a ship that could only be described as "holy hell what is that?". Either way, he maneuvered a few feet to place himself five or six meters from his opponent. Separating them were a handful of ropes that dangled from the ceiling like a makeshift curtain, but Antonio could still see Marius and assumed the same could be said for him.

He cleared his senses, blocking out all distractions except the distant lyrics of Leekspin that echoed through the ship. Yaa tsi tsup ari dik ari dull an dik ari dill an dits tan dool la dippyduppy...

A familiar heat coursed through his veins, filling him with spontaneous energy. He felt ecstatic to finally have a fight worth coming to. If he could find a way through that armor, he'd finally get to see a little blood in this tournament.

"Let's do this," he muttered half to himself.

...yaa tsi tsup ari dik ari dull an dik ari dill an dits tan dool la dippyduppy...

Isabella silently mulled over the implications of Shinji’s ‘inactivity’. She could make any number of accusations as to just what her opponent was doing. However, more so than what that might be, the adolescent warrior was greatly intrigued by the fact that he had not made an attempt to attack her. Although given that she saw no obvious weapons secured to Shinji’s person, she could draw the likely conclusion that he simply did not want to step within reach of her weapon. That, or he had yet to settle on the proper course to do so.

In either case, he had given her more than enough time to gather all of the power she could within Gale.

A fraction of a second after Shinji spoke, Isabella took a swift step forward, drawing her right leg to the forefront and sending a slight vibration through the scaffolding the both of them were standing on. The adolescent’s upper body retained its position, causing her muscles to strain and tighten in response. She held this stance for all of a second as she mentally prepared herself for what was about to happen.

Isabella swung Gale, a grunt of effort escaping her and emphasizing the action. The Sky Blade moved through the air with astonishing speed as the former assassin carried it through a precise horizontal swing. Isabella’s threat range was hardly surprising to anyone capable of doing the math. Gale’s blade alone extended just three inches shy of four feet. This, in correspondence with the length of the adolescent’s own arm, created a rough six-and-a-half, to seven feet (depending on the positioning of her upper body) area in front of her, which she alone threatened. For the time being, however, this mattered little in the way of dealing a physical blow to her opponent, and more as to where specifically the release of Gale’s power would begin, and thus were it would end.

In the wake of the Sky Blade’s passing, the overabundance of boards shuddered, graced by the first tendrils of unseen power an instant before the full release of the weapon’s gathered energy occurred. The subtle tremors turned into violent quaking, disrupting the haphazard craftsmanship to such a degree that a number of the wooden beams came loose, a couple of which taking flight as they were caught up in the surging gust of wind that manifested between the two combatants, and began a swift charge towards Shinji’s side of the arena.

No one could say that the emergence of the moving wall of enchanted air came without warning. All the while that Gale was harnessing the necessary power to do so, it had hummed, and the shaking planks of wood gave some forewarning as well – although it was experience fighting against the weapon that often allowed a person to notice these signs. Nevertheless, the release of that built up energy was a rough three to four feet from where Shinji stood. In the process of readying herself, Isabella had taken a shoulders width step forward, followed by a second stride a moment before she had swung the Sky Blade. This put her an approximate ten feet away from the breathing man, as opposed to the previous twelve they had started with.

Arguably, the short distance between where the gust of air began and where Shinji was standing was hardly enough to give any ‘average’ person time to react to something as naturally invisible as wind. However, Isabella had seen it done time and again, and she knew it would be foolish to assume that it could not happen this time as well. This gale moved with enough speed and power to lift a horse off of its feet and send it sprawling. It rapidly expanded ten feet in either direction, consequently covering the entire width of the scaffolding, while also rising ten feet towards the sky. Likewise, the windstorm would not dissipate until it traveled a full twenty feet (vanishing close to twelve feet beyond the edge of the platform), gradually losing some of its strength along the way.

Isabella took a few, carefully placed steps forward in the wake of her sword’s release, making sure to avoid spots where the boards were knocked loose, or where the contents of partially filled paint cans had spilled. The thought to charge in after Gale’s windstorm flickered through the former assassin’s mind before the voice of reason brushed it aside. There were too many variables, too many unpredictable ways which her opponent could respond to the immediate threat – and as certain as Isabella was that she could handle whatever it was he managed to do, she was not foolish enough to think that she was one hundred percent prepared. She had never fought Shinji before. His capabilities were as much a mystery to the adolescent as she was certain hers were to him.

Thus, the former assassin opted to remain just shy of seven feet from Shinji. She situated herself in such a way that her greatsword was held at a diagonal, while being gripped by both hands, with her right placed closer to the cross-guard than her left. Gale’s pommel rested just beneath Isabella’s left hip, its blade extending somewhat behind her, with its tip hovering a scant few inches above the platform. The adolescent’s right shoulder lined up almost perfectly with her leading foot (her left). In turn, her upper body possessed an adequate twist to support the positioning of her arms, as well as a distinct forward lean to help her keep balanced.

Needless to say, Isabella was keen on keeping Shinji within sight, maintaining eye contract (more or less) with the man throughout everything as it happened.

[[Just to clarify, all of my measurements (mostly in the latter part of my post) are based on the presumption that each of our respective characters began this fight four feet away from the arena’s edge. This would put them twelve feet apart from one another (as you mentioned in a post prior to our fight beginning). If this isn’t alright with you, I can go ahead and adjust my measurements according to what you picture for the placement of our characters. Also, I am sorry for the lengthy delay… I had to figure some details out that I apparently overlooked while writing up Gale.]]

66The Thunder Tyrant

There were two men on the platform, but only one of them had two functioning eyes - temporary blindness from the flash of light notwithstanding. The fighter's face was bright red, as if he had gotten a slight sunburn - more or less immune to lightning, he wasn't immune to hyper-expanding air heated by lightning no more than someone who was resistant to fire could be resistant to smoke.

Deitric felt something nudge against the side of his boot and stopped - he had moved to the left far enough, and as he could tell from the vaguely body-shaped blob that could only be his opponent, Ko wasn't coming after him just yet. Without taking his eyes off the rapidly-focusing sight of his opponent, the brave reached down and grasped whatever lay near his foot. It was a flathead hammer.

Without waiting for his vision to fully clear, or his ears to completely stop ringing, the brave hurled the hammer right for Ko's head. He didn't need to be too accurate; there was hardly nine feet between the two. It wasn't going to be fatal, but getting beamed square in the back-and-right side of the skull with a thirteen ounce hammer probably wasn't going to feel too good.

Immediately after, the tribesman began to move forward, ignoring the stinging, raw pain in the flesh right across the front of his abdomen. The muscles still ached, but the feeling had dulled a little. Deitric's steps were measured - rather than in a straight line, his left foot was going out to the left slightly, and the right did the same in its respective direction. It created a slight illusion of weaving to and fro, when in truth he was moving very little to one side or the other. It was commonly used by boxers and wrestlers alike, which begged the question: was Deitric coming in to beat the Triad into submission, or to take the fight to the ground?

It wasn't immediately clear which he intended to do. What was clear was that the warrior was coming in with fists raised; the left slightly lower than the leading right, his chin down, and his broad shoulders hunched slightly. He approached like any good fighter would when approaching an opponent who had equal length, and that he was going to try and get well within arm's reach.

Some might have asked-- why did he ruin the element of surprise by throwing the hammer?

Because Deitric didn't want to "surprise" him. He wanted Ko to know he was coming, because when they were face to face, the Triad was easier to anticipate. A man with his back turned might do anything. A man face to face with his opponent was liable to fight face to face, and that was exactly what the Khasmin brave wanted.

67Vintrict

Wherever Deitric went, Ko's right hand followed. His right eye was out of commission, but his left eye still worked. It would be stupid to let Deitric get out of the minor vision range he already had. So there was hardly a surprise when the hammer was hurled at him. He had half a mind to grab the thing out of the air to show how futile that was, but conditions did not make catching it favorable. A sway to left helped, instead.

As the thing went flinging off to who knows where across the platform, Ko's right foot slipped under something itself. As if karma was playing just as much of a role in this fight as themselves, he pushed upwards his foot to kick something at Deitric. It was the plank the man had used prior to force Ko to leap at him. Since it was left on the ground out of place, it served as a nice little weapon to use. The wood swung upwards, going for a one way trip toward the injun's face. Ideally, that is. His opponent was protecting his head enough so it wasn't going to do any more than act as a detriment.

Ko pushed in behind the plank, weaving to the left. His fists were raised, too. His sole left eye bore calm anger toward Deitric as he moved in. And from Deitric's right (still in front of him), he threw forward a right straight aimed for the injun's face. But as it flew, colors of red, orange, and yellow flickered to life as fire rushed over his fist, using one charge of the accumulated heat to enchant his punch with flames.

He wasn't out of the frying pan just yet.

68The Thunder Tyrant

When the plank swung up at Deitric, the tribesman simply bobbed further to his right than he had done previously, completely side-stepping the oncoming piece of wood. He saw that Ko was there to meet him - he expected nothing less from the determined Triad. The two men were about to enter another exchange; perhaps the final one if either of them had any say in the matter.

The warrior didn't stop moving forward - Ko's fiery punch hit nothing but air where his opponent's head had been as Deitric abruptly went under the punch. the fire singing the top of the warrior's considerably shortened mane. If the Triad had had any plans ready to set in motion, it was too late now.

As soon as he ducked under his opponent's punch, Deitric's speed seemed to rapidly accelerate in the split-second of time where he threw his own left handed punch with his right hand lowered to guard, his attack suddenly carried by a huge burst of force as a spiral of electricity burst to life around him as he came in beneath the straight like a freight train, aiming to smash his opponent and dash him to pieces.

Quote: Maelstrom Spiral - Deitric's only true "finishing" move, is similar to the Thunder Drum attack in that it only requires the use of one hand. The main difference is the expenditure of energy and exactly how it manifests. Assuming he has enough energy generated or enough to expend, Deitric can pool it all into a single fist before attacking.

Once the attack has started, the energy begins to spiral in a cyclone fury from his fist and backwards, spilling over the warrior and the area around him. The attack hurls Deitric forward, enveloped in a swirling tempest of power. Anything in the way of the attack will usually be knocked back, and anything directly struck by the punch will feel the sudden reversal of the spiral, abruptly pushed back with an explosion of force and electricity.

The air around the men exploded with flashing, warping lights and rippling heat mirages as Deitric unleashed the single technique a majority of his opponent's dreaded if they had seen him in combat before - the Maelstrom Spiral. Worse for Ko, he had unleashed it point blank - they were easily within punching range, and the tribesman had torn open the floodgates on his remaining pool of power as his own hook soared through the air towards the Triad's ribs.

If the Asian thought the black-haired tribesman's last punch to his ribs had hurt, he about to learn an entirely new definition of agony with the force of the Maelstrom and the cestus combined. Ko was inhumanly tough and sturdy for a man of his size and build, but he wasn't going to have much of a chance to respond - as soon as the warrior's fist struck his opponent's torso, the spiral that had grown around him would explode forward and force the man away like the gale winds of a storm.

The warrior had one ace up his sleeve - he knew that, being so close, that Ko would be within range of the Spiral's electrical field that exploded into existence around him whenever he set the technique into motion. Hopefully the momentary stun would ensure the strike rang true, even if the possible element of surprise did not. Deitric wasn't aware of his opponent's under-suit that could dampen electricity, but if he had been it wouldn't have stopped him. Surely the suit could only dissipate so much, after all.

If the Triad had still underestimated Deitric prior to that moment, he would be a fool to continue doing so afterward, if he was still conscious or had all his ribs intact. He had underestimated the tribesman's abilities, his patience, and his willingness to make sacrifices in the name of victory. Winning could only be achieved through blood, sweat, and tears; Deitric Jocasta was unafraid to shed any of those things.

And shed he did, of that there was no doubt - when the light faded (assuming Ko was struck and knocked across the platform), the burnt and bruised tribesman would be left standing, smoke rising from where the fire of his opponent's flaming attack had brushed his hair. Blood leaked from his nostrils, painting the lower half of his face in a grisly, macabre mask of crimson war-paint. Muscles visibly twitched along his body as he breathed in and out deeply through his mouth, a spray of aspirated blood misting outward each time he exhaled. The glow in his eyes had dimmed considerably; the separation between pupil, sclera, and iris were visible again, if only barely.

But what others couldn't see, was what he felt. The tribesman's left arm felt numb, as if a nerve had been pinched. He could move it, but doing so felt sluggish for the time being; something he concealed. Tingling pain, like thousands of needles pricking his skin, ran through his body. His abdomen had a terrible, dull ache of fatigue to it. In truth, it was questionable whether or not he'd truly had enough power to pull the technique off, it would have been safer to cut off his power use for a while after the lightning bolt and give himself a limit to avoid any self-induced injury.

But Deitric refused to accept any limitation - least of all his own body.

Now, it was only a question of whether or not Ko was still in enough of one piece to continue fighting. The tribesman was never much of a betting man, but after that exchange, he would have figured the odds were stacked against his opponent.

DRAGULA

69Vintrict

One person gets one time in their life where they are presented a choice. This choice represents the product of all of one's experiences and what feelings lie in their heart. Every thing they have done in their lives have led up to that one point, where their decision defines truthfully who they are. Stories begin or end based on this life-changing decision. You either walk away as a coward...or you rise up as a legend. Champions are not born. Ko did not believe that. They are made. Boasting your words of victory to a crowd meant nothing. It was through effort and action where the real words lied; where truth shone upon your very being and revealed who you really are. Sweat, blood...that was a given. But it was the one who hungered for victory that really had a good chance of grasping it. That day had come for the asian. This moment was going to go down in Heaven or Hell history. At least, he hoped it did.

It all began when Deitric dodged his punch. Following the normal standards, Ko was ready to block against whatever move the guy threw out. He figured with that stunt of striking his eyes, his opponent didn't have enough power to throw out anything significant that he couldn't deal with. Guess the look on his face when he struck Deitric's punch to the side with his left hand as if he was just punching normally, only to see a great surge of power and electricity be thrusted upon his body. His left eye grew in shape as shock came to his face, the notorious Maelstrom Spiral being released at the most dangerous range one could be in. He had thought that the ailment he inflicted Deitric with would have warned him not to push himself this far. But clearly, he did not care for his own body.

Ko felt stupid for what he did in reaction, too. The punch was directed off to his side, but with the way it was launched at the asian's body, the fist was slid across his right breast and moved outside to his right, leaving a good punch to the ribs. And on reaction, Ko actually had his right arm go down and grab onto Deitric's thundering left arm in an overhook before the move could reach its full potential. The spinning array of destructive forces tore at his dress shirt, ripping it to shreds to reveal his layer of protection underneath. The suit could reduce electrical powers by a quarter, but damn did it still pack a punch, burning holes into the material rapidly.

CRSH, KRCK, SLSH!

So many sound effects of tearing, shredding, and discharges ripped through the air as Ko practically hung onto Deitric's arm. But the punch was so great and torrential that he clearly could not hang onto the arm for long, and his body went sailing several feet backwards. Every crooked board that was in the way was ripped asunder, weakening the floor's stability second by second. And for those few moments, Ko felt his body lock up, control taken from him as the voltage ravaged his muscles.

Having slid to a stop near the edge, his body fought against the pulses driving through his muscles as he lied on the ground. Any normal man would have been done in by now. Any normal man would have just quit right then, so they would not have to worry anymore about being blasted with electricity. Any normal man...wait. Ko wasn't a normal man. That's right. He still had some fight left in him. He still had something to do. If he fell now, then he did not even deserve to continue on in this tournament.

And so he rose. His body jerked in various places, but the energy running through his body gave him enough toughness to keep going. He still could do something. Doing nothing was just sickening. He had fought too hard to let himself be done in now. So as he rose to stand once more in a stature of stability and calmness, he felt that today, he had made himself seem more than just this hooligan who runs cars into little girls. That maybe he understood what pride meant, though he had no proof of that thing called honor.

He spit some blood off to his left, then had his right hand slap his chest as he walked toward Deitric in a defiant manner, avoiding the various holes that were created by the devastating attack. Ko looked a mess. Even as he walked, he was doing a lot to keep himself from looking weak to his opponent. But he felt his opponent was just as harmed. Those powers of his were going to be his downfall. That was the asian's aim, after all.

"I am still standing," he said to Deitric in that thick accent. "The fight isn't over yet. You should be able to stand up to one more attack, right?"

He grinned, stalking toward the man, heat slightly present around his reddened skin. Deitric was originally considered the beast in this fight, but Ko's nature called for reconsideration. Or maybe...it just called for a different title. A beast held sweat and blood as their pedestal of pride. But these things were lacking in the asian's beliefs. A man this cold deserved a more fitting description.

70The Thunder Tyrant

After the flash of light, only one man remained standing. The warm air around Deitric stank of pungent, burnt ozone until the high-altitude breeze carried it away. The tribesman's face was bloodied gruesomely, more from his own abilities than from his opponent's effort. His muscles were pulled taut, striations and veins visible even from afar.

He looked tired and strained, but amidst the pain there was also something else - triumph. Even while battered, his stance mimicked that of gladiatorial champions from across time and space; a singular statement of prowess that only the man left standing could take.

Deitric wasn't standing unscathed, though. The muscles in his core ached and the fever-warmth of his burns hadn't abated. Sweat ran down his back in thin beads, the fatigue of exertion combined with his mostly fire-related injuries made him feel like he was standing in an oven. The strange, dry fatigue his opponent had induced on his abdominal area was more noticeable than ever, but he refused to let it get the better of him. The pain was always a constant in battle, even when he won. But it was all worth it; every bit. It always was, and always would be.

He watched his opponent rise while he jigged his left arm to and fro to try and return some feeling to it. The only thing he felt was pins and needles in the flesh; like the arm was asleep. He could move it, but it felt like a blunt instrument, not the adroit limb it ought to have been. He was only mildly surprised that Ko rose - he doubted the man would stay down for very long no matter how badly Deitric beat him; the man was simply too stubborn to know when to quit. It was a trait he admired in opponents and allies alike - an opponent without the drive to win was never much of an opponent.

Deitric shrugged noncommittally at his opponent's question, not bothering to wipe up the mess of blood smeared over the lower half of his face. He preferred not to waste his breath on empty words. The tribesman wasn't in the best shape, but he was in arguably better condition than his opponent. With a fatalistic sense of duty, Deitric's right hand drew something from the criss-crossed belts he wore at his waist.

Gleaming in the clean sunlight was nearly eight or nine inches of cold, razor edged steel. Unknown to his teammates or even those who had known him since he had arrived from his foreign homeland, the knife Deitric held in his hand had cut short the lives of more men than he cared to think about. It had slit throats, disemboweled and crippled men, tore them screaming and crying and twitching from life.

He drew it now, but not to take life. Deitric had not taken a life since he had come to Gaia - five years of bloody, internecine warfare stayed his hand in matters of life and death. The Triad had his lighter, though, and Deitric had his knife. Each was a tool, designed with a purpose in mind. Surprisingly, the caesti didn't stop him from wielding the knife - he simply preferred not to carry other weapons while wearing the gauntlet-like weapons. The knife was always on him, however. He had carried it since he was a child, and it was never far from his sight or his hand.

The tribesman didn't deign to speak, but there was a dangerous glint in his eye. Deitric was notorious as a knife fighter - he didn't hesitate to stab people, sever tendons, or otherwise cripple men with that blade in his hand. His own teammate could attest as much; the brave had severed Shinji's Achilles Tendon in their match up with a strange precision that was normally apart from his usually loose, adaptive way of fist-fighting.

It was because of the inherent nature of the knife. That keen edge could end fights instantly. Amongst the tribes of his homelands, knife duels could go on for minutes at a time while the men twitched and feinted, trying to draw one another into overreaching. It was from those knife-fights and their tightly-wound tension that Deitric had developed his ability to watch and wait; a knife fight was nothing more than two coiling snakes, watching to see which slip first.

And like a snake, Deitric waited, swaying slightly in the air, his eyes wide open. He held the knife at his waist, almost casually - there was no point in bringing it up to guard like some sort of fencer, there was no give and take, guard and riposte with the long knife. The poise of the knife fighter was cold and ready to snap at any moment to snuff the life from an opponent.

If Ko came too close, he would find the bite of Deitric's knife to be even less enjoyable than that of his lightning - the gleam of the blade was like the rattle of a copperhead, warning of the menace that lay in drawing too close to it.

[16]

71Vintrict

A knife, huh. A little too late to draw it. He probably could have done some good damage to Ko if he drew it earlier in their exchange, but that put to question if the asian had any knives of his own to draw. A smirk passed over his face as his left hand reached behind him. Grabbing onto something of his own from within a holster, he removed it from its scabbard. Letting fire come into behind around the object he drew, Ko threw his left arm around his body as swiftly as he could muster. A blade of his own was on a spinning trip toward Deitric, engulfed in flames. The knife was seven inches in length, with a white handle as its rest. It was aimed primarily for the center of his body. It should come to know surprise but his skill in throwing the thing was on par with his skill in hand-to-hand combat. A little sloppy, however, considering his condition.

Ko had expired both charges of his heat into it, making it into a rather big fireball. It was thrown from the range of five feet, so Deitric was going to have a tough time evading it in time, especially with the condition to his body. He could block it, too, but that would cause a splash of flames to rain against his body. The asian then placed his foot underneath one of the planks, kicking it upwards into a stand, using it as a shield in case Deitric decided to throw his own knife, his foot keeping it propped up. Whatever the case, that was his last action for the fight. He simply placed his hands into the pockets of his pants and waited for the horn to blow.

17

72The Thunder Tyrant

The knife flew through the air, but that was all it hit.

Deitric had lunged to his left, not because of the throw - but because he was intending to try and draw Ko into another exchange where he could put the blade's wicked edge to work by "showing" a flank maneuver that was really just another bear-trap waiting to close on the Triad. He had only seen a slight shift in Ko's movement before moving; he hadn't known what the man was reaching for, only that it provided a chance to change positions relatively unmolested. The flash of spinning steel was all Deitric saw of the knife as it sailed off the stage, down to the Noah Dome below.

For a moment, the tribesman still look ready to fight - knife hanging low around his waist as if he were about to rush his opponent and cut him down. The FIGHTER on his wrist began to flash and scream with digital noise; loud enough to cut over any sound competitors could have made.

BEEP--BEEP--BEEP--BEEP

"..."

Code: Fight:: OVER

The silvery blade of his knife disappeared again as Deitric walked away. Grabbing a rope, the warrior began to pull himself up with only the strength of his arms, his legs dangling as he climbed towards his team's sideline platform. It was the only way back up the platform, and he preferred the company of his team to that of his opponent. Like a predator who was no longer interested in its prey, he hadn't bothered casting another glance at Ko.

[17]

73Vintrict

That man was still as nimble as ever, even with those wounds. Almost as if his body was truly indestructible. That almost humored Ko.

"Hmph."

Well, he wasn't angry anymore, really. He felt like he got something out of this fight. Ko would recover his knife later. On second thought, he'll just go get it now. Walking over to one of the ropes, he removed his tie then wrapped it around his left hand. Grabbing hold of a hempen rope, he kicked off the platform and began a descent toward the ground, sliding along with the tie acting as somewhat of a protection against burning his hands. Clearly, he didn't want to perform any extraneous movements to bring pain to his body any more than it already had. Bad enough that he just experienced the equivalent of a human tesla coil.
