Months ago:
The giant of a man had been searching for weeks, digging through catacombs, labyrinths, tombs, and burial mounds, only to have his search turn up fruitless. On the night of his final night out, he'd decided to give up, to turn his head the other way and to walk out on this foolish quest all together. His armor was torn and shredded, despite being enchanted to withstand most of the elements involved in dangerous fighting. His muscles ached, his stomach rumbled, and his mind was tearing itself apart between human emotion and thought processes and the more animal side of things, which at that moment, had began to interest him much, much more than returning to civilization.
Ignoring the urge to return to the forested region that he usually inhabited, he instead decided to stay one more night in the mountains as one last effort to get his mind in order and figure out what it was he was looking for. His body settled against a large pile of stone, and slowly, while he watched the clouds drift lazily across the darkened sky, he began to drift off, hearing ever louder the voice that had originally led him on this wild chase to begin with.
Mighty hero, champion of dire evil, betrayer of kin and love, destroyer of many a city and civilizations alike. You've finally began to understand that what you're looking for isn't an object obtainable physically unless you've first done so mentally. Now that you've realized your true form is the key, wake up, and look to the shrine in front of you. When you kneel before it, you'll receive what I promised you in the beginning. However, if you choose to accept the gift, you must do exactly what your human emotions require of you. Return to humanity at the time and place that I specify, and your objective will be displayed to you as soon as you gaze upon it.
The man's senses were slowly returning, his eye sight slowly becoming more clear as he eased his way back to wakefulness. His hands groped around him for a hand-hold, and slowly, he pulled himself to his feet, looking upwards at the giant shrine which had magically appeared before him. Shaking his head in disbelief, he walked up to it, and sitting upon the marble surface of the shrine was a strange piece of armor. Deciding to follow the word's advice, he knelt before the shrine and closed his eyes, only to open them again in shock as he felt his chest constrict, his breathing become harder, and his movements, even minor ones, caused him great difficulty. Cursing himself mentally for his own stupidity, he hung his head in shame and waited for the end, only to feel the burden lifted.
In denial, his emerald green eyes opened slowly, only to gaze down upon a green-tinted armor that covered his entire body. Not only that, he found the armor covered even his head, having formed a massive helmet that was very delicately crafted, although he couldn't see that at the time. To his great amazement, his body had shifted also, growing larger, gaining more muscle, his body parts growing longer, his body even growing new parts. Of course, at all of this, he wasn't alarmed, because he was quite aware that he was shape-shifting into a form that was a little bit closer to his natural form than usual, and he began to understand. The armor augmented his strength, augmented everything that he was, but in doing so, it required much, much more. His body had shape-shifted to meet the requirements that the armor needed, and he had figured this would be a problem, until he felt free movement of his tail and wings. The armor had crafted itself around all of his added features, and was perfectly fitting for his massive form.
Ah.. ah... ha.. hah... AHAHAHAH, YES. His monstrous face twisted beneath that gigantic helmet, and for the first time in years, a form of a smile lined his tooth-ridden lips. He twisted his head to gaze upon his sword, which twisted and reformed itself before his eyes, and with caution, he reached out to grab what the weapon had become. His hands grasped upon a gigantic mace, something that should have likely been wielded in two hands, but he found himself able to lift it with absolute ease, hefting it above his head and looking up at it with a form of pride. The gift that he'd been given was great, almost too great to handle, and as he celebrated his good fortune, he remembered the other part of the voice's demand. He nodded silently, the wicked smile still lining his lips, and he walked past the shrine towards the edge of the mountain, his mace at his side, his armor clinking quietly as he moved.
His gaze fell upon a city, and suddenly, he understood. He seemed to recall an event that had been held in that city; infact, an event that he had been a part of. Memories flooded back, and he began his long walk, right down the side of the mountain, following the lights in the distance with his emerald eyes.
Vince's armor was quiet as he towered above the crowd at the grand opening to this year's Heaven or Hell. His wings were pressed tightly against his back to keep from hitting participants; not that he would have cared, it was just more convenient for moving more quickly among the crowd with the wings folded. His mace hung at his side, a golden gleam about it, even in the room that was pretty much devoid of most forms of light that would create such a thing; almost giving it the view of a golden aura around the weapon. His eyes followed the crowd, watching the interaction amongst the competitors and spectators, and after a while, he left the room. His direction was the front door, and why he found himself walking that way, he couldn't quite understand. His eyes gazed out from behind their metal protection, and he began to get this urge-- Primal, deadly.. natural instinct at its finest.
Pushing the front door of the building open, he looked ahead to see most of the people who had been enjoying the festivities outdoors start running in different directions, and that's when his gaze caught it. The vehicle was rushing right towards the building, and after a few seconds, Vince saw that he was the only one left in the immediate area. The security had pretty much just walked away, unsure of what they could possibly do against something as large and destructive as a full-sized truck. Vince stepped forward, walking a bit away from the building, and kneeled, waiting for the truck.
As the truck neared, the voice spoke again, this time gently guiding Vince's hand in the direction that it wanted. Do you understand yet, Vincentius? While you have slaughtered people and brought ruin to entire city-states, you have saved an equal amount. You're being asked to use the primal instinct and the just evil that you have followed your entire life to make the correct decision. This is up to you, now. You know what you must do.
Vince nodded gravely and stood up, ripping the mace from his right side and swinging it upwards across his body in a diagonal slash, reaching towards the heavens. In a golden splash of light, Vince's body altered once more, and where the mace had swung, a giant tail followed it's direction, smashing directly into the truck. The tail was massive, massive enough to stop that truck's momentum and send it flying in a different direction, throwing it completely away from the building.
