" Dragon Jerky."
That was what the bag said anyways, in big bold letters at that. Damion wasn't sure if that meant it was made from real dragon or if that meant it was hot but in either case he would be happy. It was also cheap, another point in its favor, but the red and yellow bag still remained unopened on the stone of the fountains outermost wall next to a black boombox.
" Can't be real dragon....but what if it was? If I cooked Ryugi, would he taste like this?"
It didn't seem likely and the earth elemental wouldn't find out until after the days dance was done. Everything was all set up for the tango of a lifetime, shoppers diverting in their streams away from the 20 foot by 20 foot red roped barriers set up in a square. It was the most public place he could find short of setting up in a store and that idea hadn't been as appealing. After all, they were here to be seen right?
Damion stood up and ran a hand through his raggedly cut hair and began to pace with barely pent up energy. His purchase had meant to distract him but with the coming fight on his mind it was difficult and only the steady tap of his bare feet on the marble floors kept him calm. He had dressed in a hook button sleeveless shirt, yellowing fangs making up the buttons, and wide black shorts in an effort to atleast appear like he cared about his appearance. They swished softly with his pacing motion but it was lost amongst the louder drone of so many mall patrons.
Too bad they'd have to get out of the way.
" Ladies and Gentlemen, May I have your attention please?!"
This waiting s**t was for the birds, time to get the crowd riled up. Damion's voice boomed out and cut through the lower background chatter, turning heads and silencing voices as people began to stare at the strange man, more out of horror than anything as he clambered onto the statues in the center of the fountain.
" Now, you don't know who I am, but I know you know what time of year it is."
" Thanksgiving?"
" Cute, but WRONG!"
Damion stood casually ontop of a gilded lion head and smirked down at the crowd with his hands on his hips, slowly building into his element.
" No ladies and gentlemen and....whatever the hell you are. It's time once again for that greatest of all blood sports, the HEAVEN OR HELL TOURNAMENT."
It would be difficult to get this genteel crowd excited, but damned if he wouldn't try and do just that, his words setting an excited buzz of conversation through the rich and snobbish. Some echoed his words as the excitement of the moment caught hold and Damion pumped a fist into the air.
" My name is Damion Hedley, Remember it. You'll be screaming it later as myself and Benjamin Nicolai square off for your entertainment and the approval of the judges. This bout and many like it will determine who enters that most hallowed of tournaments."
Both hands came together infront of his chest and those in the back of the slowly gathering crowd began to push forward. The Plaza had filled swiftly as people caught sight of the dark man standing atop their fountain and while they came with outrage- or to stare at what could be a mad man- they stayed for the entertainment. Who didn't know of the Heaven or Hell tournament, the Noah Foundations big publicity stunt that had seen more property damage done than any war could have matched in all the years it ran.
" Now ladies and gentlemen, we the fighters are here for you, for your entertainment, and we need to hear your approval. We need to hear those voices raised in praise and derision! So I tell you now, let me hear it!"
Few voices gathered into the moment, shouting wordless praise even if they were few.
The showboating elemental leaned forward towards the crowd with a look of pure hatred and anger on his face. His lips twisted until a word growled fourth that managed to be louder than the shouts that had come before it.
" LOUDER"
And they were, slowly but surely, louder as each person began to chant the tournaments name into the air in their various native languages. It mixed and swelled like the sea until it was a wordless barrage of noise shaking the glass of the skylights above and roaring down the gilded hallways.
" HEAVEN OR HELL!"
