Ohia Forest

The Isle de Gambino is well known for it's sugar sanded coasts and expensive hotels, but there is a more tropical beauty waiting further inland. Up in the tropical mountains awaits Ohia Forest, an ancient land with tree dating centuries old. Many a legend have been from it's very soil.

Fallen giants, sharp rocks and water-rotted flora litter the floor of this forest, making it difficult for quick, unimpeded movements. The ground is a soft, moist mud, making even the lightest warrior sink an inch deep. The canopy above hinders most sunlight, but does nothing to shield from the frequent rains are so famous to the climate.

Be sure to bring bug spray.

General- A beautiful forest composed of slippery elements to challenge even the most graceful fighter.

Weapons- Tree limbs, twigs, ferns, mud and rocks.

Natural Element Resource- Earth, wood, water.

Bonus Effects- Five posts in a down-pour decides to grace the stage, lasting until the end of the fight.

2Unchecked Twitch

D' had hoped her prelim would be in a more agreeable climate, but... you take what you could get, right? This was just a preview of some of the things she'd have to deal with in the tourney proper so she'd put up with it. Stiff upper lip and all.

Her purple eyes moved upward as she walked the path marked by bright orange flags, though her lids closed when a large drop of water landed squarely between her eyes. It had been raining on and off, and she could tell with the soft rumbles in the air that the deluge was returning quickly. This fight would be nasty and sticky, but it'd be just as bad for her opponent, so she'd just roll with the punches.

The first and most important adjustment was to her clothing. While preferring to fight in loose clothing, she knew rain and mud would just mat and cling to her. Up top, she wore a varsity gray shirt with "The Immortal Double Jump" on the front and "XPJS" on the back with a fancy, authentic-looking collegiate emblem. Otherwise, she wore green camo fatigues belted, tightened and tied at the ankles, knees and waist. Twitch wore black sneakers with pointedly good tread rather then boots, not worried about the problems that came with long exposure to mud and such. To her, the main issue would be the ability to pick up her leg, and she didn't want to weigh her body down with heavy boots. Some might wonder if she was wise to give up that traction for lower weight, but she'd argue that she wasn't giving up traction at all.

And so there she was, walking with her staff acting as a walking stick, following the marked path as she took a piece of cloth and tied back her already damp hair into a single ponytail to prevent any of it from sticking to her eyes. Eventually she'd come to something resembling a clearing, the Judge there waiting with no care for the weather. That man/woman was given a respectful nod before D' began stretching her arms and slowly picking up her legs, one at a time, to see just how sticky and nasty this ground was.

On a scale of one to ten, pretty sticky and nasty.

(Sorry about the delay Wulf~ Home from work now and I have an AM shift in the morning after which I can post proper/do more besides an intro)

Oh preliminaries.

While this was only Ryke's third time entering the tournament and during her second go-round there had not been a preliminary round, it was still amusing to reflect on past preliminary matches, whether it was her own from three years ago or watching her friends while she sat out last year. Heaven or Hell's prelim rounds were always a treat, as they often set the stage and the tone for the rest of the tournament. This year was bound to be no exception. While some of the competition was largely unfamiliar to her, she felt slightly recognizable as the token ginger carrying a baseball bat.

Initially, the former bounty-hunter entered the so-called arena with high spirits and high anticipation, but that changes fairly quickly after setting foot onto the soft, muddy ground that spanned the whole forest.

Right. Forest.

Why were they fighting here again? Of all places? She had fought around and in a fountain, in a kitchen, a clocktower, a parking lot, there might have even been a football field somewhere mixed in there but a forest? That was new. And not at all exciting.

The "arena" was certainly met with some measure of hesitation from the only female member of Bloody Pandas. Ryke turned her eyes to the sky above or what of it peeked through the canopy of leaves and branches. That didn't look terribly promising either but then, mother nature often did whatever the hell she pleased whether it inconvenienced her or not.

After making peace with the hand she was dealt, she scouted out the area for her would-be opponent and was happy to find someone already waiting. Small blessings right? Her opponent was on time. Though, Ryke squinted her eyes ever so slightly as she approached what, at first, appeared to be a normal woman brandishing a staff. Upon closer inspection did she really notice the feline-like ears that stood out just enough to be seen. There were plenty of anthropomorphic residents on Gaia, but truth be told, she had yet to square off against any of them.

She reserved judgment for the catgirl and just strolled on over to introduce herself.

"Twitch, right?" She offered a hand to shake. Ryke was rather unassuming in appearance as always, dressed down in a fitted slate colored tee, a green canvas jacket slung over one shoulder, shorts and a pair of fairly rugged looking boots. From the other hand dangled her all-time favorite weapon - her beloved bat. It had seen numerous battles now, looking worse for wear with all its knicks and dings and the paint chipping from the Aekea BugBears flag that decorated the bat, but sure enough it would get the job done.

4Unchecked Twitch

Ah, an opponent with a weapon... she was glad, wondering if fairness and all would force her to relinquish hers. It was only the prelims right? No reason she couldn't fight hand to hand if her opponent was, right? Speaking of hands, she reached out and gave her opponent a firm handshake, small claws never touching her foe's skin.

"And you are... Zandra, right? It's nice to actually meet you." As might be expected of a major sponsor, Twitch always followed the tournaments, especially its female combatants. It was a treat to fight someone with experience on this level, though she'd not let that fact blind her... getting star-struck, and all. She'd competed in local TKD tournaments, so she at least had a taste of the scene.

"Well, we're here and it's nasty... so let's get this started. Best of luck, ma'am," she said with a bow at the waist (force of habit) and a few steps backwards. Her five-foot stick was tossed between the two hands before she moved her right foot behind her a bit. With the left side forward, her stick's business end pointed down toward the muddy ground before her with that hand at her waist, her right hand holding the stick at the rear near her chest. Position set, she fell into an easy, loose rhythm of moving her shoulders to shift the position of the stick.

Back and forth, loose on the balls of the feet. Be ready to move. Don't let the terrain bog you down. Don't worry about being everyone else, just fight the way you know how and you'll be fine.

A toothy smile spread across her lips despite the unfavorable conditions.

Go time.

While she didn't try to sneak-attack the woman if she needed to settle, Twitch made sure to bring the tip up and, while taking a quick shuffling step forward to close the few grace feet given until they were only 3 feet away from each other, strike quickly with a hard jab to the chest with her staff the moment Zandra seemed ready to rock. With the weapon extended to bridge the gap, it might almost look as if she were using the staff as a pool stick and (the space between) Zandra's breast(s, where she was actually aiming) as the cueball. It probably wouldn't hurt at all, being more of an annoyance than anything.

No, she did not forget that Zandra had a bat.

Well at least the competition seemed friendly enough, and another female on the would-be battlefield was always a pleasure to see. So there was no reason to be anything but courteous. Even if they were going to exchange blows very shortly...a fight was a fight.

Quote:** Wrote:

The comment brought a little smile to her face and they shook as any good competitors would. "Just Ryke if that's cool with you." She could literally count on one hand how many people really called her by her first name, and they primarily consisted of family, the guy she was sweet on and her best friend - well sort of. So it was always a little weird to hear it from someone she had never met. It almost seemed a bit formal.

It was no shock to hear her opponents remarks about the state of their current location, the conditions under which they were about to get very violent and she agreed. "Yep. No question about. An' same to you." With introductions done, she gave Twitch some space, slipped into her jacket and was more than happy to let her make the first move.

Her opponent was clearly just testing the waters, so Ryke discarded the bat in favor of . Before she could become the human cue ball, she stepped forward and grabbed onto the incoming staff with both hands and gave a tug, forcing her to lean a little into the attack in order to strike out with a kick at the side of Twitch's left knee. The staff still struck the ginger's chest but not hard and certainly not square on and slid off.

That was a miscue on Twitch's part.*

*The author couldn't think of any clever Billiards jokes. Sorry. Will try harder next time.

"Oua!"

With her foot planted so, she'd be able to take the kick to the knee by bending down just a bit. This rolling with it wouldn't take off the power after the fact but the overcompensation allowed her to take control and keep her upright. To Ryke, it would seem that Twitch dipped a few inches before suddenly whipping her body in the opposite direction, this action preceding the feeling of getting slammed in her left side with Twitch's right leg, roundbouts the rib area.

This is why she wore light shoes-- had they been any heavier, she would've begun to sink and set when she put her leg down. However, for as long as Ryke felt the need to hold the staff, Twitch would use it as a balance beam and anchor while she pummeled Ryke's ribs; her opponent would know it with how much Twitch's body pulled on the staff without actually trying to pull it away. With the mud and need to feel more the placement of her feet else she slip on an errant large branch or something, her legs were slowed to one kick per second, with each kick punctuated by Twitch's kiai.

"Oua!"

It was like a game of tug-o-war, only with more violence incorporated in the form of kicking and pummeling on one another. Neither one of them seemed ready to give up the stick yet despite the initial thought that Twitch might relinquish it.

Alright. Next plan.

The ground was soft, much to Ryke's dislike, but did her best to keep her feet firmly planted, especially as the incoming foot was ready to collide with her body in a most unpleasant fashion. She jerked, out of instinct for impending impact, but didn't plan on letting Twitch get away with such a sneaky move. She had already gotten tired of the tugging war that was going nowhere and forcibly shoved (and subsequently released) the staff and her opponent backwards.

"Here, you can have it back. Think I prefer a bat over a big stick anyway."

It wasn't enough to completely save her from getting clipped by the catgirl's quick leg but even a glancing blow off the side of her torso was still felt by the tournament veteran.

Her intent was to throw Twitch of balance completely and send her either stumbling backwards, or right down to the muddy ground.

Regardless of the outcome, Ryke's favored weapon found it's way back into her hands and she started towards her opponent again, to close whatever gap there was between them again.

[2/10]

8Unchecked Twitch

Tugging war? Why, there had hardly been a few seconds invested before Ryke ragequit the tug-of-war. =(

Getting her anchor moved while she was kicking wouldn't disrupt her attack-- the bar was there to help her launch, not turn and spin into the attack. Unfortunately, it was also there to help her reset her position each time. This meant that she wasn't going to be able to bring her leg back, and Twitch was instead going to spin 180 degrees CCW.

"Hngh--!"

Shoved back and with her left side facing Ryke, Twitch stomped down to cut out any sliding she was in the middle of doing. In the end, she'd come to a stop six feet away in a wide crouching stance, but with her staff back in her left hand-- the right had touched down near the surface of the ground and hovered there.

Ryke spoke, noting the preference of weaponry. Twitch hissed at the opponent, her fur, hair, and hackles raising even as Ryke walked over. There was enough time for this.

Oh man. Barely into the fight and already she had gone and

Her opponent was spinning. Not to mention hissing and hackles raised like a literal four-legged, fur-covered feline. She was spinning on top of that. Did she mention spinning?

Right.

Pushing Twitch away with a good shove of the staff hadn't gained the results Ryke wanted, but it was a start and let her have that brief span of time to grab her weapon and get back in the game. It was time to focus, considering she had already taken a staff to the chest and a modest blow to her side. Fortunately, she hadn't slipped and fallen on her face yet, but the ginger was certainly feeling a little antsy for some action.

With as careful footing as one could manage on a muddy playing field, Ryke darted forward towards her opponent, but before making contact, she too crouched suddenly and dug the head of the bat into the ground and forcibly loosed a concoction of earth and rainwater into her opponents field of view.

Was this a diversion? You bet. Affectionately named: the "clod-of-dirt" technique

She continued the upward motion of the bat like it were a golf-club rather than a baseball bat, and swung back down (at an angle) with full force - trajectory aiming for where kitty's neck met her shoulders, on or around the collarbone respectively.

"Sorry. More of a dog person. No hard feelings."

Sins of an Angel Wrote:

It didn't matter, because Ryke stepped forward and removed her own ability to dodge. To her credit, the diversion did make Twitch move (because she was going to keep growling otherwise), but likely not in a way Ryke would have appreciated.

Twitch seemed to be doing well not getting too grimy and nasty with this falling rain and mud underfoot, but all of that was erased when, in response to the rising mud, she used her springing position to leap further away. With the dirty water between them, Twitch would be as blind to Ryke's golf swing as Ryke would be to the nuances of Twitch drawing her leg back and shooting it forward during the leap. Mind, the relocation was supposed to take Twitch completely out of Ryke's range, what with her apparently having weapons with longer reach than Ryke's own.

Weapons, plural.

Special: Dust Kick Wrote:

- A straight or side kick sends out a shockwave of energy on the ground, raising the titular debris in a 3-foot wide, 4-foot high (roughly, the height of her foot after a standing kick) cylinder. Direct hit delivers a concussive force of two meaningful kicks; getting caught in its immediate wake (1½ feet) or the edge delivers the force of a single meaningful kick. Moving at a constant rate of 20mph, it has an effective range of 25 yards after which it dissipates completely. Two charges.

To Ryke, it might seem like all the mud she splashed up suddenly crashed back on her, and for some reason hurt her chest/face/stomach/whatever was in the way a hell of a lot more than water, mud, and twigs should. Twitch, concentrating on aiming on Ryke's last position with the knowledge that her attack could still hit full-on if Ryke shaded either way, fell on her right side in the mud. The grip on her staff remained true, though she felt her hand slip down a bit. Assuming Ryke ate the Dust Kick, Twitch would quickly scramble to her feet, wishing it was raining harder to get the mud out of her hair.

"Crap-"

It had been a worthy attempt at least.

She missed. That much was obvious by the distinct lack of resistance when the head of her bat met only air and rewarded with a good hard kick to the chest - or so it felt like. Twitch was quick on her feet, which was both good and bad. It was always fun to try and catch a more swift opponent, but it usually meant spending a little bit more effort.

Her so-called diversion had given the other fighter a convenient curtain of mud and debris to hide behind and splash back at her unceremoniously while using the opportunity to almost wind her. That was sure to leave a mean looking bruise, and Ryke stumbled back to accomodate for the sudden blow to her person.

Being downed was not about to stop her and she was resilient enough, and stubborn enough, to keep at it. Her position, however, did offer her a good vantage point of the forest floor. After discarding the bat, temporarily at least, Ryke grabbed the nearest fallen tree limb (of a modest size) light enough for her to lift without strain. Getting right back up on her feet with little hesitation, she hurtled the thing right at Twitch.

Yes, she just chucked a tree branch at her opponent with what seemed very little rhyme or reason. Of course, there was a reason - because the second the branch left her hands, she grabbed her discarded weapon and sought to close the three feet or so of distance between them with a quick sprint forward.

Knowing Twitch would have to contend with the incoming branch, that would hopefully leave her open to attack. While she dealt with the problem at hand of blocking or defending herself from, Ryke maneuvered her way back into striking range. She raised the bat high with all indication she was going to bring it down straight at her opponent but ducked down as she put all her force into a downward swing at the same leg she had attacked before.

[4/10]

12Unchecked Twitch

Ah, the kick hadn't floored Ryke as she'd hoped, but there was enough of a lull to start getting back to her feet. She never took her eyes off her opponent while rising, Twitch not knowing the exact range of the bat and not wanting Ryke too close with it-- a nice swing could turn the tide, and break up Twitch's zoning.

With her left side still facing Ryke, she turned her shoulder and braced against the tree limb. It was sizable, certainly not something she'd want to get hit in the brainpan with, but thrown at her she could just kinda... take it. It was an odd thing to just drop her weapon and decide to throw things, and if it happened again then Twitch would actually move out of the way because if it was anything like a cartoon, Ryke might find a car or kitchen sink to throw.

Anyway... "blocked" the big branch, got it. It dropped down right in front of Twitch as she took a half step backward and it splashed up mud on her shins, not that there wasn't a lot of mud there already. Twitch's face was one of slight confusion until she saw Ryke pick up her bat again. Was she going to thr-- nope, no she's going to start swinging.

The staff still being held by the left hand, her right quickly joined in and swung the staff so it was in an upright position, and moving to intercept Ryke's swing-- left hand would be much lower than the right. She wasn't expecting such a quick change in direction however.

Aaaaaaa stop being confused stop being confused stop being confused

DINK

"Fffff---"

Twitch's freezing gave Ryke the opportunity to land that attack, and there was no beastly bracing happening here; Twitch's knee buckled and she was going down. Not having the mind to do what you were supposed to do != not knowing what you should be doing, and so as she dropped with a throbbing knee, Twitch used the last of her balance to twist her body to the right and yank up the staff to slam Ryke in the chin. Just a little painful something-something to keep her from pursuing, so Twitch could start mentally cursing at herself for falling for that and try to get back up.

Adrenaline: 2+1 = 3

13Sins of an Angel

Now things were getting a little more violent. Which was a plus in her books. This being her third return to Heaven or Hell, Ryke had certainly been itching for a good bout and so far things were going along swimmingly. With a few blows traded already, the fight could only get better from here.

As usual, her opponent was light on her feet and boasted a not-too modest reaction time. It was expected. Anyone who entered this gig ought to be quick to act.

Some delight was taken out of seeing Twitch mildly confused over this new turn of events. There was no action plan or any sort of long and thought out methods to the former bounty hunter-turned small time engineer's style of battle. Go with the flow. Just about everything was spur of the moment, not that she didn't take the time to predict how an opponent might react, or think before she herself acted. Usually, a loose plan was formed mid-way through but that was really the extent of it.

Twitch had obviously not been expecting the "surprise" attack, but that made it all the sweeter when it connected.

Down she went!

However, retaliation was not far behind. Her opponent was clever, and quick to strike out again with the staff, and Ryke was almost caught entirely off guard and that damn stick would have knocked her head back like a bobble-head doll.

"Ohshi-"

Almost was the key word.

With equally quick reflexes (well maybe not those of a cat), she swung the bat back up - and it cut through the air to meet the staff in a well-timed parry. Instinctively, she thrust her left foot out to strike at Twitch's yet un-damaged knee. It wasn't a bat, but a good hard kick in those boots was still highly unpleasant.

It was at that moment that the heavens above decided to part and near-drown them in a not-at-all-unexpected downpour. The skies had seemed threatening right from the start, but never gave any real indication of when the rain would start. Now seemed like an appropriate time, of course.

So, figuring out how not to slip and fall face first in a pool of mud and moss would be just grand...

[5/10]

Equipment Wrote:

Work Boots – Rugged and about shin-high, Ryke’s boots have a steel reinforcement in the toe, offering protection from falling objects and puncture wounds. In addition, they are equipped with composite steel plate mid-soles, while they add a little extra force to kicks, they mainly prevent puncture from below. Not for everyday wear and mainly just for combative use.

14Unknown

Twitch had been showing Ryke her left shoulder almost the entire fight, nearly sideways as per a staff-wielder's typical stance. A collapse on her left side with a strong right would only further reinforce this position. This would make her right leg incredibly hard to attack unless Ryke was going to physically step over Twitch to hit it That said, the kick would be aimed at Twitch's hips.

Unless Ryke was going to physically step over Twitch to hit it.

But y'know, it didn't matter in the end where she decided to toss her foot. After enough using the staff, Twitch simply opened her hands to let it fall against her body and roll of on its own time as her arms wrapped around Ryke's offending leg. The combination of that knee attack and the one following made that one side a bit sore, but... these were just kicks right, albeit with steel toe boots or something, right?

With teeth grit to push through the pain of concentrating her movement on that side, Twitch moved her right arm around Ryke's leg while pulling herself up and closer. This was done as fast as humanly Esterianly possible not only to be sure that this tackle succeeded with little to no complications and as much surprise as could be mustered, but also because Twitch wasn't fond of holding on to someone's leg while they were holding a bat.

Her head was against Ryke's thigh, neck tight and shoulders pulled up... it was all the protection she could offer for the short couple of seconds needed to drag Ryke's feet together and out from under her. The ginger was slated to flop most unceremoniously onto her back, Twitch vying for position as she crawled atop, using her claws to hold onto clothes or body parts as needed and available to ensure that she was always holding something, always aware of Ryke's body and where it was trying to go.

Her eyes were also up, because she needed to know where that bat was and where it was trying to go.

15Sins of an Angel

The rain continued to pelt them, and Ryke was feeling grateful she had remembered to wear her jacket, and shorts as opposed to long pants that would have just weighed her down as they became further soaked.

Ryke was honestly surprised when Twitch gave up her weapon in favor of grabbing the incoming leg. It had been a little bit too predictable, so credit was given where credit was due. Still, the 5'7" engineer turned brawler for the sake of HoH now had to fight for balance on what was anything but solid ground. Lean and lanky as she was, the ginger wasn't weightless and as the forest floor became all the more awash with soft, pliable mud - the less traction either of them were going to have.

This fight was bound to end up on the ground at some point, so it wouldn't be a big loss if it happened sooner than later.

Twitch's arms wrapped around her leg successfully, practically hugging it close to her body.

"Hey hey, woah. Not only am I not into girls, but I definitely don't do the furry thing-"

How good was Twitch's grip? The rain wasn't letting up anytime soon and with her legs exposed to the elements, said extremities were bound to get slippery and hard to really hold onto for long. That said, she felt the pull and gravity attempting to work against her. They were going down, but even still, she had time and freedom to follow up. With both of her opponent's arms occupied, and head snuggled up against her leg, what could cat-lady really do but find the butt end of the bat jabbed repeatedly into the back of her skull.

It did nothing to break their fall and the subsequent splash of mud, twigs, leaves and what-have you bothered the ginger very little.

Twitch on the other hand was more likely to get a face full of it. For the most part.

Didn't she hear somewhere that mud-baths were good for the skin? Who knows.

[6/10]

16Unchecked Twitch

Twitch had wished it was raining more... and suddenly it was. That was fine, she supposed... thank goodness she decided to had claws to resecure her hold if it began to slip. However, it wasn't needed since Ryke ended up on the ground, her body shielding Twitch's face from the mud that splashed. The strikes to the head were expected and prepared for already, what with the bracing of the neck and hiding of the face. Unfortunately, the back of her head was exposed, her shoulders able to come up only so much, and so she took those hits like a champ-to-be while being subconsciously thankful her opponent didn't try to rear back and fully swing or something, since that would have given her a serious pause. Twitch paused once she took the first hit, but her plan was lacking in multiple fine motions that she needed supremely fine motor skills and absolute concentration for. Thank goodness, because getting "tapped" in the head constantly was starting to take its toll.

This simple plan concentrated on climbing up Ryke far enough to lessen the power of her hard bat jabs by so being far too close for an effective hit at that angle, and also putting her hand by the lady's face. With Twitch's head lying against Ryke's chest by now and the feline between her legs, it was pretty easy to tell where Ryke and where her head was, so this task was rather easy. To be extra sure Twitch peeked up from her turtle stance, sure her hair would catch the pouring rain before her eyes did.

There would be no rearing back of a fist to signify an attack that Ryke should quickly dodge. There would only be the quick motion Twitch's right hand opening up at Ryke's left jaw as the heel of the palm lightly brushed her skin... even it felt much, much worse.

Special: Pulse Wrote:

A hand thrusting forward distorts air as if it were water, and the ripple effect continues in a straight line; size of actual distortion is just larger than her hand (1 foot diameter). Concussive force upon direct impact delivers the force of two meaningful punches, and an indirect blow gives the impact of a single meaningful punch. Moving at a constant rate of 10mph, it has an effective range of 15 yards, after which it dissipates completely. Despite visual distortion, no elemental tie to Air or Water. One charge.

Twitch mashed her face back into Ryke's chest after spotting the Pulse, left arm dropping onto her right shoulder to have more of an idea of what the dominant arm was doing. And by "mashed her face into Ryke's chest," we mean "leaned forward enough to headbutt her in the middle of her collar." It was there that her face would now again hide.

Not to discount Ryke's vigor at all, and Twitch was no surgeon gifted with superior precision or anything, but she'd heard plenty about how a well-placed strike to the jawline on an unsuspecting person could easily knock them out. With the situation as it was, she felt it was time to test the theory.

At the very least, the combination of attacks would hopefully stun Ryke out of attacking with the weapon, giving the back of Twitch's head a break. Even if Ryke was only going to be allowed a couple of hits in a couple of seconds, she was still attacking with a bat.

Well this was getting a little awkward and fast.

First, her opponent was hugging her leg, resting her head against her thigh. Oh sure, it was all part of the fight, but don't tell me it didn't look a bit incriminating. No more incriminating than Twitch climbing the ginger to secure herself a better position.

She could hear the comments now...

Worse yet, the rain fell and fell, pelting the ginger's face without regard for her upright position, at the mercy of the skies above.

Her efforts to beat the butt end of the bat into the back of her opponents exposed skull was a success. It was definitely a little difficult thanks to their now, very close proximity, the angle not entirely permitting her a wide range of motion but damn did it feel good all the same.

Ryke stopped, however, the minute she found a hand reaching for her face. That didn't bode well. Ryke released the bat with her left hand, letting her right fall to the side while clutching it then promptly dropping it in favor of pulling something yet unseen from her right ankle. She used her left to make a quick grab for the offending arm, if only to throw her attack off course or at least cut down on the sheer force of the blow. The tight space she had to work within and quickness of her opponent didn't allow her to escape entirely unscathed and like Twitch, she took it like anyone getting struck in the jaw might, by gritting her teeth and hissing through the pain.

Simultaneously, she had released her knife from the protective sheath at her right ankle and quickly lashed out at the figure on top of her, gripping the blade like an ice pick about to be buried in the back of her opponent's left shoulder.

A little bit of a vicious retaliation, but you do what you must in times of desperation. Besides, Twitch had claws. That was totally unfair. Not to mention, she was a few hairs taller and heavier than Ryke herself, so shoving her off would have been a little difficult, and not nearly as effective at stopping her. Still, getting ruthless this early in the game meant she would have to step it up for future matches...

[7/10]

18Unchecked Twitch

It didn't take much effort to twist the palm, since Ryke was manipulating Twitch's arm. She might be able to keep from getting KTFO, but Twitch wasn't going to easily whiff an attack that large, close, and easy to fine-adjust.

She wasn't even thinking of how their fight could be interpreted; she'd seen enough matches and heard enough talk to know that if you're grappling, it's going to look silly. Hell, people even talked down on both professional and Olympic-style wrestling because they were all close and personal, and as a fan of both Twitch didn't really think twice about that sort of thing.

Besides, she could save the comments about how soft and warm Ryke's body was for after the match. smilies/icon_wink.gif

With Twitch between Ryke's legs, she thought the lady's movement to her right leg was a movement to her for some kind of hair hold or something, so she leaned slightly away in preparation for it while still moving up Ryke's body. She could still feel her sore hip and knee, but she could handle it much better down here; it was part of the reason she'd dragged Ryke down in the first place. If this fight went back to standing, Twitch might be copping a slight limp that'd make dodging the bat that Ryke just released a mite harder.

But they were on the ground and Twitch didn't know that Ryke was going for her knife. Likewise, in her preparedness to stab Twitch Ryke wouldn't be aware that Twitch's left hand, the one that had been on her shoulder, had likewise slipped up to the right side of Ryke's face.

"....!"

Twitch's eyes mouth opened wide in a silent scream, the slits of her wide eyes thin lines. Her body stiffened and she stared down at Ryke. For a split second, the pain was all she knew, that searing hotness that made her body stiffen all over again.

The second passed, and Twitch locked eyes with the woman. Despite the rain matting down her hair and fur, her ears were erect and sloping back. She looked downright pissed, giving hints to the reason her species was called the Hellcat. However, the important thing wasn't Twitch's eyes, it was her hands. While Ryke might have held Twitch's right hand, she still did nothing about the mobile wrist which flashed open in a familiar gesture.

...That still wasn't important. It was the barest feint for the the free left that cupped Ryke's cheek. No moving this one away, baby.

It sounded kinda cinematic and all, and might've been rendered for the movies for thirty seconds when in reality, from stab to face touch, only a second and a half had passed. Twitch's body was still stiff, and she was snarling again, though the pain caused her eyes to water.

Not that Ryke would've been able to see that because the moment Twitch's hand touched her, she was probably yanked into the land of the unconscious with apparent simultaneous blows to the temple.

an enhanced version of the Pulse, this time with a purplish red ball of flame traveling in the center of the rippling. Fire element, distortion size remains the same. A direct impact delivers the force of three punches while a glancing blow offers the force of two. On any impact, delivers moderate damage to the area around it by way of a burst that can set cloth aflame. Three charges.

So... this was how Heaven or Hell went...
