1Adrinai Telasai

Adrinai was grinning. He had rolled away from Rayner just before Loppa had leapt on him, avoiding being sandwiched between a mech and an ork place. What's more, he had landed a significant blow on Rayner. He'd even heard the man groan in pain!

Adrinai's grin didn't falter even as he realized, while making his way toward the young water-weaving opponent, that his left arm wasn't responding to his orders to assume a defensive position. His shield arm was being stubborn, hanging limply at his side no matter what he told it to do. A quick glance confirmed that his shoulder was significantly further out than it was supposed to be.

Dislocated.

The thought didn't even bother him, although some tiny voice in the back of his mind was aware that it very much should have. He thought back on the match up to that point, and realized that he shouldn't have been surprised. He'd used his shield to absorb a rocket stomp and then a rocket-propelled bullrush through a door. Come to think of it, most of his problems so far this round involved rockets. Still, he'd clearly pushed that arm to its limits earlier, yet it was his own ill-advised attack, diving 8 feet onto an opponent and expecting that arm to take the impact, that had propelled his body past the breaking point. He pressed the button that released the straps on his shield and let it clatter to the floor. He didn't even spare it a second glance as the flow of water picked it up and carried it across the hold.

Adrinai's eyes snapped up to the young man. Adrinai was still grinning, a slight hint of madness in his eyes. Clearly the young man had recognized him, perhaps from his appearance in a previous Heaven or Hell? Adrinai didn't recognize his opponent, however. How could he? All humans looked pretty much the same, and even if you did get to know one well enough to pick them out of a crowd, when you saw them a decade later they didn't even look exactly the same as they had before! It was yet another frustration that the longer-lived races had in dealing with their kind.

"Autographs will have to wait, young man!"

Adrinai wasn't sure what to expect, but he had just enough time to react as the water came flying at him, his buckler flying up to intercept it. He'd expected something... more, as the force and volume weren't even enough to drive him back a step.

themightyjello Wrote:

Adrinai's maniacal grin faltered. It wasn't that he'd finally recognized the boy... no, he simply hated puns. They were just so... tasteless. He was going to have to teach this no-class boy some-

Supreme Jerk Commander Wrote:

> “I AM YOUR OPPONENT!”

His intention to leap at the boy fell apart under the weight of Rox's dramatic entrance. While he still considered diving in for good measure, it occurred to him that there was a member of Mountain in the cargo hold doing as she pleased without anyone to oppose her. And what she pleased, apparently, was to sink the ship with them all still in it. Adrinai left Rox to sort out the rude pun-making opponent and turned to Ryke. She had managed to cross the hold since the last time he'd been specifically aware of her position, so Adrinai stalked toward her.

"Zandra Ryke, is there a reason that you're trying to kill us all?"

WHY!?

In the time since he'd gotten on this boat he'd been:

  1. Surprise punched by an anthro girl.
  1. Had an orc fall on him.
  1. Had a greasemonkey tossed at him.
  1. Had a train nearly run over him.
  1. And now this 8-bit Angel was interrupting the elf that was about to try and stop him from helping Rayner.

They were all about to be both underwater and on fire and frankly this was all getting quite ridiculous!

Supreme Jerk Commander Wrote:

> “I AM YOUR OPPONENT!” > > > > At which point she'd she'd confirm her words by throwing a right jab at Justice Man's Justice-Face. Not full strength, but enough to let him know it was on.

"FINE!" The man from Mountain shouted back at Rox as she took it upon herself to cut in; the water he had thrown at Adrinai wouldn't be redirected until after it splashed the elf, when it would splash down on the hull and start flowing back towards the masked man, rejoining other rivulets that were being pulled in from the pouring rain coming through the shattered deck.

Rox threw her jab and the bandanna covering Justice Man's Justice-Face blew up for just an instant as something large and round and about the size of his head came flying out. Like an inflating balloon it seemed to grow and stretch over the course of that instant as something entirely too large to fit inside of his mouth spilled out of it and into the path of Rox's jab: an honest-to-gods cannonball!

The iron ball lobbed in her direction, not moving anything like at the speed it would have come out of a cannon but instead more like an exceptionally large shotput that, if her Battle Aura didn't knock it away, would sail in a low arc through where she was standing and then crash down onto the wood and water behind her with a big splash and a heavy crack. Jabbing at the thing likely wasn't going to break her fist, especially not if that flaring aura around her was an indication, but it probably wasn't going to feel pleasant.

Of course, that's assuming it slowed her down at all. It was a gamble that might have ended with Anson getting a face full of cast iron.

If that didn't happen, though, he would already be stepping back out of the range of the jab just in case Rox tried to follow up her "1" with a "2". His tetsu-bunshin no jutsu technique was at best going to slow the Pixelated Princess down, but it would give him time to shift his stance and let the water that was streaming towards him along the ground collect into a larger mass.

"Then come and--"

The wave-like collection of harbor water that rose unnaturally out of the shallow pool that was starting to fill the bottom of the hull came back to him on his right side, where the dagger he held in his hand was pointed at it... and accordingly it followed the tip of that dagger like a cat chasing a laser pointer as the masked man swept it past the outside of his own right leg in a semi-circular pattern before he flicked the knife upward and the water 'jumped' at Rox.

"-- get me!"

Like before, it was nothing but water. There wasn't enough pressure to act like a water cutter and there wasn't enough there to carry her away with it, but she was about to get a spray thrown in her face and if she blinked then she might miss the part where Anson's back-step immediately became a forward lunge as he jumped to try and slam both of his boots into the center of her chest and send her tumbling backward into the elf.

Of course, there was still that Battle Aura. If he'd have tried the same thing against Loppa he probably would have ended up stopping dead in place and falling flat on his backside... hell, there was a 90% chance that he was going to crash down one way or another but it would be nothing compared to the bumps and bruises he'd already had his share of today.

Meanwhile, Anson had his left hand by his side the whole time, making a motion like someone trying to keep a basketball spinning by repeatedly slapping it along the same angle -- and although the water in the hold was starting to steadily rise bit by bit the area around Rayner and Loppa was still completely dry as the water around them had seemed to form some sort of anti-whirlpool; a ring of water flowing in a counterclockwise path was forming a wall to keep the rest of the floodwaters out, and every time Anson repeated that motion with his hand it seemed like the water wall got an inch taller.

He had to keep that fire from going out for as long as he could, since it seemed that nothing else was doing more than making the ork angrier.

**SCIENTIST MAN!**

Hello kids, it's me... Scientist Man. Here to explain to you a little bit about Orc physiology. Orcs are known by various names and standard physical attributes far and wide. In fact, their prevailing use in all forms of media means that they are second only to Humans in terms of species representation. Despite the slight variations on them that most are used to encountering, Orcs for the most part are known for their green skin, pronounced under bite, large incisors, muscular builds, and bad attitudes. Often, portrayals of Orcs have them speak with an accent (not racist), or some form of crude vernacular based on the English language. In comparison to the average human they are usually viewed as less intelligent and more single minded. There is one thing that Orcs, almost universally are known for, and that is their penchant for violence.

Today we will be examining one species of Orcs in particular, Gamus Workshopus. The Gamus Workshopus Orc goes by many names within its natural habitat. But since the writer for this Orc in particular had to be a special snowflake we cannot be content with merely disseminating on about the Gamus Workshopus. We must go deeper, as they say, and turn our attention to a sub-species known as the Outdated Armybook. More commonly known as the "Black Orc". The Black Orc could be viewed a rare genetic strain of Orcs. While the average Orc of this property - I mean world - has taken the strength, brutishness, poor linguistic skills, and lust for killing things to a degree that would far exceed that of others in all aspects. The Black Orc borders on parody. They are even taller, even meaner, even stronger, and yet also possess slightly higher cognitive skills.

Cut to footage of Orcs failing to solve a simple shape puzzle, but the one Black Orc in attendance has completed it.

It's truly remarkable what can happen when you combine the two genetic processes of "Always Someone Better" and "Flanderizing". The Black Orc: able to continue functioning in spite of devastating, perhaps lethal, injury; has high natural resistance to much bodily harm; and truly outstanding physical strength. And, should you manage to anger one enough - or wound it sufficiently, they become even more powerful! Among scientists we have a term for this called "bullshit". Mainly because it's bullshit that such a creature should exist, and yet it does.

NARRATION: "So scientist man, what does this have to do with the present situation?"

Ahahaha, I am so glad you asked! You see I am only here because I'm being held at gunpoint to explain this fanboy s**t to an audience of roughly half a dozen people, but god dammit, am I going to do it because it's what the people with the assault rifles want! You see...

Plays back footage of Loppa and Rayner grappling with one another.

When the man in the "power armor" went to stop "Loppi...", "Lowpee...", "Loppa..." Yeah, Loppa. As you can see, he tried to stop Loppa's absolutely stupid huge, and probably horribly infected mouth from pulverizing his collarbone.

Zooms in on the shot of Rayner holding Loppa's mouth open.

It reminds me a lot of those tortureporn movies you like Susan. Where the serial killer is on top of their target, just choking them to death while they flail with their hands and hold the serial killer's head back to try and get away. Usually there's lots of kicking on the floor too. I've always wondered why they never try to scratch or tear at the guy's neck or mouth. Nine times outta ten those chicks have nails sharp enough to gather enough DNA evidence, or at least injure their murderer in some way. Why don't they ever think about doing that?

NARRATION: "I don't know Scientist Man, probably because the writers are a bunch of hacks working on a script for some B-Movie. Also my name isn't Susan."

Haha! Whatever you say, kid.

NARRATION: "Can you at least get back to the footage."

Well excuuuuuusssseeee me for trying to stall for time before the execution squad here fills me full of holes. Let's see what our protagonist here does with the giant, on fire, Black Orc in a similar situation.

Flicks ahead from by frame until Rayner pulls his right hand away.

Oof! Well, as you can see here the guy in the suit of armor moved his arm away to grab at something I can't quite make out from this angle. I personally wouldn't have done that because it means...

Draws on a whiteboard: 2 Hands = 100%, 1 Hand = 50%

That's exactly half the number of hands as before, and that's bad! Half of anything is bad! Especially when the fireball with a name is currently twice as strong for some reason. That means one hand for him equals 100% strength using my incredibly advanced math equation. And since he hasn't used the other one yet, that-

TRANSMISSION ENDED.

Loppa's writer was back and so it was time for Scientist Man to leave. He had more important things to do anyway, like talk about why Mortal Engines was going to lose more than 100 million dollars at the Box Office. He (Loppa's writer) also didn't feel like typing a whole lot in Orcish at the moment, but it wasn't as if that'd impact his grade any.

Rayner meanwhile, well, he might have made a big mistake. Perhaps not as large of a mistake as Loppa's writer had perceived, but still a pretty big one. I'ze Mad only lasted for such a short duration for a reason: Loppa was far faster, stronger, and bestial. So while the man in the armor might have been pretty quick with those fancy jets of his, jets still needed time to spool up. On top of whatever time sink that he'd need to slip whatever he was going for around his hand. Loppa meanwhile, well he didn't need any such accessories or even more than the simple visual cue that Rayner had opened himself up for the attack that the Orc had wanted in the first place.

[LOPPA'S LEFT ARM JOINS THE BATTLE!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PInuVXgxO1g)

The green trunk of muscle strained against the smoldering epidermis as it flew up towards Rayner in a blur, where previously he had been using it to help prop himself up next to the man. One could clearly see it pulse with of the Orc's tremendous heart as it dumped adrenaline into every cell of his body. He practically looked swollen from the stress being placed on his form, but to the Orc - if he hadn't been on fire, it would've been the time of his life. Loppa had yet to stop roaring directly into Rayner's face. His eyes grew ever more blood shot, it was starting to become hard to tell that the Orcs eyes were naturally made of a yellowed sclera.

The frantic fingering into Loppa's face from the armored talons started to make him dribble pricks of green ichor, but it began to sizzle and fry almost as soon as it was exposed to the heat radiating from his flesh. The tree trunk of muscle and fire swung "up" and wrapped the crackling digits around the man's forearm, and pushed the limb aside and down to hold it against the floor of the ship with a great -WHAM- from metal and fist slamming into the wood. Loppa was of course still clueless about the water surrounding the pair, such was his single-minded ambition. Maw agape, unhindered, and without hesitation he dive bombed Rayner and went straight for the neck, or collarbone. Wherever his mouth might find purchase, before the great glutton's mouth snapped shut.

User Image

His roars turned into the frenzied growls of a giant cat or some other beast gnawing at the flesh of one of its victims. Thick gobs of drool fell from Loppa mouth, his thick tongue wagging in wanton lust against the metal trying find and taste fresh blood. The giant Orc continuously forced himself on Rayner, pressing his body weight into him with all haste - the Deff Klaw pushing deeper sharper in unison, daggers for fingers dying to play with the soft organs inside of Rayner's guts. From the outside this looked less like a fight and more like a deeply violating, carnal act.

And that was when Rayner slammed something into Loppa's side that made his left eye twitch before the vessels that had ended snaking their way around his iris exploded covering the sclera in crimson, and blood began to leak from the tear duct. In his rage he hadn't even perceived of the sound from the metal man's jets powering up for a truly epic punch. Loppa had no way of knowing that its original target had been his jaw, but with Loppa effectively rending that target impossible to hit it seemed Rayner had had no choice but to settle for a secondary target: his ribs.

CRACK.

Loppa locked up as he felt a pain that keenly reminded him of the time he had fought a dozen Dwarf Hammerers. Then, as it was now, he did not appreciate those blows. However, just as it had been then... Loppa had shown those stunties who was the biggest and baddest of the lot. His Deff Klaw's fingers closed in tight, to grip, to hold, to slice, to eviscerate. The roaring had finally stopped. And with it the flames turned to wisps of smoke on his body. Loppa unlocked his jaw from Rayner's collar so he could pull himself up again. He would still go on holding tight to the man below him with both hands. One in the gut, one on the arm. The Black Orc didn't need to look at the wound. While it hadn't pierced his flesh, it hadn't needed to. Some of those bones that hadn't been cracked or broken were now cracked or broken. And if it hadn't been for the fact that his hide was truly black in appearance now, it would've begun to bruise from blood pooling under the dermis. His nostrils flexed as he blew out a spray of boogers and ichor on the mask of Rayner's armor.

She grabbed at some hanging ropes attached to the ceiling supports and used it to pull her body up, and kick her legs outward essentially vaulting over or sliding across the tops of a collection of barrels still miraculously standing despite the rocking of the ship and the commotion below deck. The water helped propel her along.

It was like a poor man's slip'n'slide, only in the cramped quarters of the lower hold of the ship. Places like this were her specialty however, and she rolled off the side somewhere in the middle (rather than continue her journey all the way across) and grabbed hold of it on as she stood. Ryke had every intention to barrel bash Adrinai from the back, because why not?

Rox withdrew her right hand and stepped back. Not in pain, but in surprise. Something wasn't quite right here. The dull thud of the cannon ball dropping to the deck between them confirmed her suspicions. Nothing about this battle was making sense, and Anson regurgitating vintage ship munitions like a damned Boa with a Katamari ball for a stomach did not help matters.

Again, Rox's bewilderment prevented her from following up and keeping the pressure on. And for that, she'd become victim of more water-bending antics.

Instinctively she'd brace herself and her aura, preparing for something far greater than what actually happened. “Denied!” had faded, so it wouldn't be in play here. Still, her arms came up to guard her face boxer style, and she bent her knees slightly.

Just... water?

More confusion. Then dropkicks. The impact itself didn't do much, though at the end of the day Rox still weighed 123lbs. She'd be knocked towards Adrinai, but kept her footing well enough to not utterly crash into him. Well, relatively well enough. She had to take extra care to compensate for all the rocking out the boat was doing in the harbor.

"Whoops!" she apologized to her comrade for interrupting his casual conversation with Ship-Flipper Ryke.

Her eyes returned to Anson. This dude was hell-bent on jazz-handing the water away from Loppa and Kael. She wondered how long he could keep that up, then compared it to how long Loppa could remain a living candle. Since the guy was able to spit things out at will, then trying to give him the hands was out of the question. Rox wasn't sure if that was the ONLY cannon ball Anson had Kirby'd, or if it was one of many waiting to be summoned from some cannonball gastro-dimension. She needed a weapon. Stream-fam had already chosen the Pixie-Hands, so she was stuck with them. Unless...

It was time for Pixie-Senshi to GET SWOLE! Rox's aura flared brightly as she darted away from Adrinai, leaving him to whatever barrel-inspired fate Ryke had planned. Remaining upright was rough since the ship was not cooperating, but she managed to reach the weapon.

6Adrinai Telasai

Adrinai was impressed with Ryke's speed. In these cramped quarters, she was probably more nimble than he was, despite his racial advantages. As Ryke picked up a barrel to use against him, a decades-old memory flashed through his mind: the one time that Adrinai had actually played a video game. The Elf had never been a fan of modern electronics. He reluctantly owned a smartphone because sending an electronic mail to a wandering hero requesting assistance was much easier for the average person than paying the local wizard to use a Sending spell like they did in the old days. There was one time, though, 20-odd years ago, after he had saved a small farm from marauding orcs (with a 'c', not whatever the hell Loppa was), the family had invited Adrinai to stay for dinner. After dinner, the young boy that lived there had asked him to try out a new game on his Gambino Entertainment System. The name of the game finally came to him... Konkey Dong! That was it, Ryke reminded Adrinai of Konkey Dong! Like the titular villain, she was trying defeat the hero with barrels. And that must make him the protagonist of the game: the princess climbing the tower to rescue her beloved plumber while dodging flames and barrels. Add in a sinking ship and it would be a perfect description of the battle at this point!

Unfortunately, unlike in Konkey Dong, Adrinai didn't get to see the barrel rolling slowly at him from far away. Instead, it came down from above, albeit not from behind since, as fast as Ryke was, she wasn't so fast that he couldn't turn and track her movement. He'd expected an attack and had his buckler at the ready, but her use of a large, heavy weapon proved to be a problem, especially since he was down by an arm. The barrel struck his buckler, shoved it aside with ease, and Adrinai was caught by the barrel in the chest while still trying to leap back out of range of the strike, battering him away and to the floor, where he landed hard on his backside.

Adrinai's vision went white with pain for a second, and he had a brief moment of panic that the blow had reopened or worsened the wounds that Rayner had inflicted earlier. As he pushed himself back to his feet, the panic subsided. He was sore, but he still seemed to be intact. If she was intent on swinging that barrel around, he was going to have to get creative with his approach.

Adrinai brought his right hand across to his left, where he could fumble with the straps and unbuckle his buckler. He still held it by the handle, but nothing was firmly attaching it to his forearm anymore. As he began to rush at Ryke, he whipped his arm forward, throwing the buckler at her face. As he did so, he dropped into a slide, using the slick deck to perform a sliding kick at her shins. He stayed as low as he could, hoping that the buckler throw would force her to defend high, preferably with the barrel, and even if she swung it, he was almost flat against the ground and planned to pass under it.

Whether he collided with her or missed, he would use his Shieldbearer ability to summon his kite shield onto his arm where his buckler had been. It was a little awkward, having the larger shield on his dominant arm when he normally kept it on his left, but he had a feeling he was going to need it.

Adrinai can summon one or both of his shields onto his arm(s), buckled into place and ready for use. Oh there flames, and there were definitely a lot of barrels, that’s for sure.

The elf was quick on his feet, matching her close enough that he wasn’t completely taken by surprise when she slipped under the supports and over the barrels to get at him while his back was turned. He was fortunate enough in that respect, not that a barrel to the chest would have killed him, but then he was still nursing some prior injuries.

The barrel made a very hard, woody sound as it connected first with the elf’s buckler and then a far more pleasing noise when it actually connected with his body. He had managed to partially block it but the blow still sent him reeling and seemed to stun the elf if but only for a brief window of time, in which - well - Ryke couldn’t do a whole lot but to retract the barrel to her person in her own defense, in order to avoid getting bashed in the face with the buckler. With such a narrow window of time, the barrel was her shield to prevent her face being rearranged uninvited. That did mean that the buckler did cause the barrel to bounce back right into her nose. Her eyes, still shielded by her goggles, were safe. Her nose, not so much. Ryke didn’t think it was anything serious but regardless there wasn’t time to assess the damage.

Seeing Adrinai gracefully fall into a slide, Ryke tossed the barrel at the incoming elf, and jumped up, grabbing at some low hanging rope and used it to swing herself legs first, perhaps to kick him or hit him on his slide past, but when his shield manifested on his arm, she opted instead to simply drop on top of him and go sliding along the deck, like so-

Or she would end up just tackling him. Honestly, either outcome would be just as funny.

show spoilerhide spoiler[Minor] Devour

Cost: 0%

Effect: The user can swallow an object whole and keep it in an extradimensional space. The swallowed object does not have to literally go into the user's mouth, but the mouth area is the opening of the extradimensional space. An object small enough to be held in one hand can be swallowed immediately, whereas larger objects must be compressed first; compression of the object takes 1 second per foot of length being swallowed and does not damage the object in the process. Objects that are swallowed can be spit out afterward, and the user may choose specifically which object to spit out if multiple have been swallowed. A spit object either spills out onto the ground in front of the user, or can be spat at up to the speed of a thrown object.

Limitation: If a swallowed object would deal damage to the extradimensional stomach, the stomach ruptures and all swallowed objects spill out onto the ground in front of the user.

Limitation: If the user loses access to the Devour ability (such as becoming unaspected) the effect immediately ends and all swallowed objects spill out onto the ground in front of the user.

Limitation: The user cannot swallow an object that cannot be forced into the opening such as an unwilling, non-helpless creature.

It wasn't Rox that was the one who ended up flat on her backside and learning to float; the kick caught her solidly but whether it was that Battle Aura or just toughness it didn't seem like he had hit a soft target at all. The battle pixie stumbled backwards a few steps through the rising water, and the masked man fell where she had been standing with a tremendous splash and a few bubbles as he groaned with his face underwater.

So far he hadn't taken any real damage, but he'd gotten himself knocked into a lot of things. A few bruises and a lot of soreness were going to be waiting for him in the morning, and with the way this cramped room was looking he should be grateful if it kept to just that. For now though, taking a few bumps and lumps was a fine trade to keep the other team off balance a little longer. The best thing that he could do to help his own captain right now was to keep the orc burning for as long as possible and make sure that no one jumped in to try and help the behemoth.

The ship rocked violently as some wave hit it from outside, but floating in the shallow water as he was Anson could only really feel it from the way that the bottom of the hull shifted to brush him as the water tried to level out. It seemed like things were getting a bit crazier outside as well... maybe it was time to start working up a bit of a maelstrom in here as well.

Anson crossed his arms over his chest in a forward motion, and the water behind him surged forward, creating a cresting wave underneath him that lifted him back up onto his feet. His eyes turned quickly towards the tangle on the floor nearby, but the anti-whirlpool he had set into motion around Rayner and Loppa was holding back the standing water in the hold for now. Where he stood the flooding had gotten to about knee deep, it was progressing quickly but he was still going to need more than this for the Soul of the Sauna to really hit its stride. As long as he kept this water churning, the longer this dragged out the more of an advantage he was going to gain as more and more of the water around him was being pulled into his the water spirit's influence.

Supreme Jerk Commander Wrote:

> It was time for Pixie-Senshi to GET SWOLE! Rox's aura flared brightly as she darted away from Adrinai, leaving him to whatever barrel-inspired fate Ryke had planned. Remaining upright was rough since the ship was not cooperating, but she managed to reach the weapon.

"Sure you can swing that thing, Sparkles?" The young man's right hand pulled up to his chin as he trudged forward a few slow steps in the water; gripping the drenched bandanna that had been around his face and pulling it down around his neck with a tug before his gauntletted hand, holding the dagger reverse grip, moved to his left shoulder with the tip of the blade pointed toward Rox.

Without the mask, the unnaturally large grin he had upon his pale face was out in the open. Mouth stretched wider than should have been possible, with sharp, jagged teeth like those of a feral animal. Combined with the spectral ears sprouting from his head like steam coming off of him, the effects of the Wolf spirit's transformation were out in the open. He still had another cannonball in the Wolf's stomach, but the spirit was a big eater and if he was going to get serious then he needed his tool kit unfettered.

Anson's left hand gave one more spin of the wheel on the anti-whirlpool and then he clenched his fist out beside him and snapped it across; turning his upper body as he did like he were throwing a left hook -- only he would be doing it half a dozen feet shy of Rox and her new toy.

That swirling wall of water that had formed around the two heavy-hitters peeled off a strip at the top of it, like skinning an apple a strip of water jumped up from the churning mass and jumped for Rox; wadding itself into a ball of white, turbulent water as it crossed that distance at the streamer.

Like before, it was just water, but unlike the 10 or so gallons that she'd had thrown in her face the last time this was 100. It wasn't going to batter her down, but unless she braced for it the wave was going to smash her up against the gap in the hull that she'd just pried the STIKK out of and Anson would come charging in right behind it with his right hand at his left shoulder and his left hand at his right hip, keeping the two gauntlets across his torso defensively in case the digital diva was going to try and swing on him with that club.

Lame! Rox didn't even get a chance to celebrate her “Loot Get!” in proper fashion.

themightyjello Wrote:

Rox returned an innocent smile.

A hundred gallons of water came rushing in, threatening to sweep our petite heroine away and leave her at the mercy of the awoo-eared antagonist. But, she had seen Mr. Jazz-hands sling water twice before and in both instances the attacks relied on the volume of the water itself to do its thing. Now he was pulling out all the stops by bringing an exponentially greater amount of water to bear. And with it, an exponential amount of force.

This time, Battle-Pixie Rox was ready.

Gripping the weapon with both hands, she swung it hard. Not at the advancing Anson, or even the water. No. She sought for the weapon to bite down into the ship-floor itself.

Rox wasn't heavy, but she was strong. As the Stikk sank itself deep into the deck below, she strengthen her grip and braced herself. Her world was briefly replaced by ice-cold sea water. Her aura flared, but, since it was not focused, Rox would experience all the unpleasantnesses that came with being smacked by over 800 lbs of angry ocean. Her body stung, bits of wooden splinters stabbed at her extremities, and her hair would absolutely be a mess. Still, she did not move! All thanks to the Stikk acting as her anchor.

Anson rushed in to press the attack, and he'd be greeted by a sparkling pink-gloved fist exploding through the remains of the “wave”.

"^_^" Rox's words came with AUTHORITY!

Unlike her "introduction", this punch was a right straight and carried with it all the power her strength afforded. Her left hand remained on the handle of the Stikk still buried in the floor.

It did not remain there much longer.

Anson was a crafty fellow, as she soon found out at the onset of their fight. If she wanted to come out ahead, she had to keep the pressure on. As a follow-through to her punch, she'd step forward while rotating her body clockwise (bringing her left foot towards Anson). Suddenly the Stikk erupted from the ground, freed once more from its wooden confines.

NOW, she'd be swinging crude axe with her left hand in a diagonal slash/chop coming from Anson's upper right to his lower left. That Rox though, she was a pretty cool gal! Even in the midst of all that was happening, she had the presence of mind to make sure the "Choppa" lead with its blunt edge during the attack. Because at the end of the day, Rox thought Justice-Guy was an absolute badass. She still wanted his autograph after the fight, and he couldn't do that if she were to do something silly like CHOP HIS ARM OFF!

The fan favorite, the voter's choice, the prize-fighting punchers of the power pixie packing popular poll-winning pizzazz. The blindside punch caught him completely off-balance, smashing into his cheekbone with the sound of a dull and wet thud the turned the world completely sideways; his head snapping to the right fast to look at the floor as it started to zoom towards him. The fact that he was mid-step may have been the only thing that kept him from going underwater again, because rather than taking a step forward his right leg buckled and his knee came down on the hull beneath the water stopping his fall.

" gaia_star gaia_star gaia_star ...did someone get the number of that bus...? gaia_star gaia_star gaia_star "

He could taste blood in his mouth, and his vision was swimming even more than the water in here should have allowed for. It wasn't just his head, he felt that one all the way down his neck and it was difficult to lift his eyes off of the floor where Rox's fist had driven them; though with the black spots swimming through his vision and mixing in with the whitecaps on the water churning around them they probably wouldn't have been much help to him right now.

It wasn't his eyes that helped him here. The wisp-like ears of the Wolf spirit perked up at the sound of the STIKK's teef being wrenched out from the deck boards, and in that instant Anson suddenly remembered why he had his arms held up in front of his chest.

"Oh balcony--" He barely managed to utter an expletive-deleted as both of his arms shot up over his head and the ridicu-club came down on him from the upper right. His right arm up over his head with the hand above his left shoulder, still holding that knife clenched tightly in the steel grip of his gauntlets, the Five Fingers of Justice. The left was on top of that, with the back of his wrist just over the right's elbow, forming a cross with his forearms to catch the wooden axe as it came down... or fail to catch it, as the weighty tree limb cracked down on that steel and his body bent under it, arms forced down onto his left shoulder along with the club and for a moment he couldn't tell if the hull was buckling underneath him or he was just becoming compressed like an empty soda can, but by the time he felt the momentum of that swing stop his upper body had been forced down so far that his nose was pressed into the water.

Gods, why did he always get stuck fighting these tiny gorilla women?

He finally let out the breath that he had been holding since taking that swing, and with it came a white mist that briefly lingered over the water in front of his face.

"That..."

Anson's wrists twisted and his hands turned inward onto the sides of the STIKK that was wedged between his gauntlets.

"...wasn't..."

A crystalline lattice started to appear on the club where Anson's hands were touching it, and it quickly grew, shooting down the length of the weapon towards Rox's grasping hand; the harbor water it was soaked with was rapidly turning into a sheet of ice encasing the weapon from the halfway point down and in the blink of an eye it was going to start doing the same thing to Rox if she was still holding the club.

"...COOL!"

show spoilerhide spoiler[Minor] Flash Freeze

Cost: 10%

Effect: The user causes a touched volume of water to be covered in a layer of ice. For a large pool of water this would create a layer of ice across the surface (up to 3" thick) that could barely support the weight of a person briefly. This ability could instantly freeze a water pipe or a puddle, or encase a wet object in a thin (less than 1" thick) layer of ice. Forms made of ice can be drawn out of bodies of water using this ability such as pulling an ice lance from the surface of a pond.

If she was bold enough to keep holding on, or simply couldn't get her hand off fast enough, Rox would find that ice covering her hand, the her wrist, then all the way up her arm, and it would continue spreading over her until her entire upper body was encased in an inch-thick layer of ice. The Flash Freeze woulds top at waist level when it got to the flood waters, instead making narrow skirt-like shelf of ice at the surface of the water and stopping there.

With the strength she had shown there was little doubt she could easily shatter that ice and she could probably snap her joints out quickly but the water soaked into her clothes had frozen along with everything else and so it wasn't going to just fall off just because it had a few cracks in it.

Unfortunately, he had stopped dribbling the basketball. And that meant that the dry spot in the center of the room was about to get several feet of water crashing down on it from every side.

When Ryke threw the barrel at him, Adrinai managed to get his feet up mid-slide just long enough to push it past his body and let it fall behind him, but by the time he cleared the barrel, Ryke was no longer in front of him where he'd been aiming. He looked up and found her suspended in midair, at the apex of a jump designed to avoid his slide-kick, and she was just beginning to descend. He had already been in the process of manifesting his shield, and she landed on it and balanced there as they slid across the water. The added weight pinned his arm to his chest and caused his body to kick up more water, leaving a visible wake behind them.

"Excuse me, could you please not!"

Adrinai could protest, but he really couldn't do a whole lot about being ridden like a pointy-eared surfboard, since his other arm was continuing to ignore his commands to grab the side of the shield and fling her off. After roughly a second of tolerating the embarrassment of being surfed on, he seized what he hoped would be an opportunity to dislodge his unwanted passenger. He hooked his legs around a passing vertical support beam, causing them to go from sliding down the aisle between stacks of barrels to suddenly spinning about that anchor point, turning his body 180 degrees in the process of changing the direction of their momentum and causing them to careen directly into the barrels that were stacked adjacent to the support. Had Adrinai been standing, the stack that they whirled into would have only been about waist high, but since he was laying flat, he slammed full-on into a barrel. With luck, Ryke would be pitched up and over the barrel from her elevated position, and Adrinai gave a feeble push with his shield just before the impact to help with that.

"Urnf!"

Adrinai's right shoulder hit the barrel first, followed by his torso, nearly knocking the wind out of him. He knew that he had no time to simply lay there and recover, both because he only had a narrow window to get to his feet before Ryke would seize the initiative again, and because the water was rapidly getting deeper. He pushed himself to his feet, water dripping off of him.

"Ryke, are all of your gadgets waterproof?"

With the rising water levels, he was already worried about getting to higher ground, but if she was about to electrocute them all, then that would kick his urgency up a notch.

She swung and missed when trying to kick at Adrinai as he came sliding at her but was successful in her attempt to land on top of his hoisted shield. The slick deck was covered in far too much water, pouring in from both the hole in the hull and holes in the upper level decks as it allowed in the rain from the near-literal monsoon raging outside. Judging by the rate at which it was rising, they needed an exit plan asap. A wave cascaded behind them as they slid along, narrowly missing crates, barrels and other cargo and probably drenching everyone else in the process.

”Sorry, no can dooOHSHI-”

"Urnf!" indeed. The elf-turned surfboard came to a rather abrupt stop once his legs found the support beam, halting his slide immediately and abruptly. His passenger doubled over, and tried to desperately cling to the shield and avoid getting thrown off and into the wall. Alas, her fate was mostly inevitable as she was tossed from the elf right through a stack of cargo and right into another support beam directly opposite of the one Adrinai latched onto. Her lightly armored jacket once again mercifully absorbed some of the shock on impact but did not spare her entirely from the pain of being thrown with a fair amount of force and momentum into a wooden beam and several dozen crates or barrels of cargo. It was still enough to take her out for a minute as she muttered profanity under her breath and tried to untangle herself from the mess without inhaling a mouth full of water meanwhile.

Despite being sopping wet, in pain and bleeding as the earlier wound across her jawline (thanks to Rox) re-opened, Ryke wasn’t ready to give up just yet. Getting thrown forcefully into a wooden support had hurt yes, but not as much as it hurt the beam itself to have a 150lb woman slammed into it at practically ramming speed. The support was already weakened, and while Adrinai was getting his bearings, she pulled the shock mace free from her belt again and climbed - more like scramble climbed - up on top of a group of barrels still standing to get out of the water and put herself behind the support. With her butt on the top of the barrels, she kicked out at the beam with both legs until Adrinai’s question stopped her from hitting it again.

Quote: Wrote:

She stared at the elf with a measure of deviousness. What an odd question to ask right? Or maybe not so odd. In reality, the only “gadget” that anyone needed to worry about was already in her hand, looming threateningly over the water. ”Idunno, should we test it out?” She thumbed the switch on the bottom of the maul and gave it a toss towards the water before kicking the support one more time with both legs, ensuring it broke. Ryke didn’t stick around to see if half the upper deck came down with the loss of the support, and with it probably a ******** more water. Nope, she was trying to get the hell out of dodge by climbing all over the top of the barrels to avoid the water and head towards her masked teammate.

Though nasty to deal with, the maul is a non-lethal weapon designed to incapacitate opponents through electrical shock dealt upon striking and making impact. The shock part comes in by pressing a stud on the lower end of the shaft, which envelopes the head of the maul in disruptive energies. The stud can be set to off, low - having minor destructive force but resulting in minor to moderate electrical burns depending upon length of contact; medium - double the stopping power, the electrical burns dealt on this setting are twice as severe; and high - this setting has the capability of delimbing an opponent and causing significant blunt force trauma if enough brute force is put behind the strike. However, this setting is usually reserved for heavily armored opponents. Being that it is collapsible, she can wear it on her belt for easy reach.

The jerk had even MORE tricks up his sleeve! Another failing on Pixie-Senshi's part. Before she had the chance to properly react, the ice had overtaken her. For lack of a better term, she was "frozen" in place, her facing still carrying that half disgusted half confused expression she 'd now regretted making.

Rox's world became a depressingly cold one. But the fun didn't stop there! Excess water, no longer charmed by Anson's globetrotter impersonation, swept through the deck, flipping her frozen self upside-down. The woman was now in a precarious situation, bobbing around the in chaotic soup-like conditions, legs sticking comically into the air. She was a pop-star buoy, seemingly helpless to mount an adequate response to the insanity happening around her.

In reality, Rox was thinking. Her battle aura fought hard to stave off the early stages of frost-bite, but obviously this wouldn't last for long. As the cold numbed her limbs and stilled her breath, her mine was running full tilt.

Maybe she had bit off a little more than she could chew? Mr. Jowaine warned her about the dangers of participating in this barely legal bloodsport. True, she idolized the event and its participants, but that did not change the fact that they were, for most part, crazy mother ********.

Rox was young, inexperienced, and naive almost to an extreme fault. She'd fought monsters, yeah. All magical girls did! But she was, at best, still in season one of her character development. She'd not yet been battle-hardened, she'd not yet been pit against the otherworldly horrors that majority of the HoH cast dealt with daily. As such, she lacked a certain something that even the very person she was against now, in spite being not much older than herself, had. Exactly what that was escaped her. It'd probably take the entirety of the tournament for her to figure it out.

It didn't take her long to figure out the other thing she lacked in relation to her fellow pugilists: Oxygen.

Adrinai's keen ears could hear the crackle of electricity on the mace as Ryke thumbed the switch, even over the wind and rain of the storm. It didn't take a genius to figure out what was coming next. Adrinai immediately freed his shield from his arm and pushed off the ground with his feet. The water was now high enough to provide considerable resistance and keep him from actually leaping and instead left him awkwardly trying to drag himself up onto the barrels with only one arm. He didn't quite make it in time, and the last second of his frantic scrambling included a fair amount of pain and a bit of spasming before he got his feet clear.

The water level was rising even faster, now. Ryke had given the storm yet another avenue to dump water on them from above, and if he didn't find a way up, the water would rise high enough that he would find himself right back in the electrified water. At least the ceiling had only collapsed around the one support that Ryke had kicked out. The one that Adrinai had used to stop his slide was still doing its job, although he didn't like how much creaking wood he could hear from all around them. Taking on water from below, battered by a now-raging storm from above, it seemed like the ship was in danger of coming apart. He knew that, if nothing else, he didn't want to be stuck down here in the hold if the worst were to happen.

Unfortunately, the ideal path would have been to follow Ryke, but the debris that had come crashing down had cut off the most direct route. Adrinai leapt across the aisle that he had just been surfed down a few seconds earlier, landing on another stack of barrels, and with his racially-enhanced sense of balance, he began to sprint along them, looking to chase after Ryke on a parallel course. When he realized that she was heading for the young man on the opposing team, Adrinai called out to Rox.

"Rox, Ms Ryke is coming from this direction, and we need to get out of here!"

He hoped the Battle-Pixie had a plan, because he was fresh out of ideas.

And then he finally saw her, bobbing along, upside down, legs sticking out of the water while her upper half was a submerged popsicle.

...dammit!

The rush of uncontrolled water stirring the soup in this closed space took as much of a toll on him as it did upon her. The fat end of the stikk slipped out of his grip as the waves took Rox for a ride; Anson himself finally lost balance as the water rushing to fill that gap pulled him along with it a few feet closer to the center of the room before his feet caught purchase on one of the raised boards beneath the water and he fell onto his hands and knees with the harbor runoff well above his head at this point.

His head was swimming along with his body, still feeling the effects of the pixie-dust Rox must have powdered her boxing gloves in. Everything around him was a blur of motion and sound, and it took a moment for the young man to realize it was because he was completely under water now. He could still taste blood in his mouth, but when he opened it salt water rushed in instead. No, no, he'd bought "time" just now but if he didn't pull himself together it was just going to be the same thing all over again. The same gorilla in a size 6.

Anson's hands fumbled for each other under the water, the left pressing onto the hull to find something solid and the right sliding that dagger back into its sheath before he pushed himself up and came out of the water with a tremendous gasp and a collection of stray flotsam jostling around from his sudden imposition. The water spirit was loving this, the wolf spirit... not so much.

For a moment, his knees buckled again and the man from Mountain fell halfway back into the water before he caught himself. Breath caught in his chest, his jaw clenched tight and his joints stiff as he struggled to keep himself on his feet.

Oh. Oh no. Water bad.

It was mitigated by the fact that the charge had plenty of room to disperse, but the feeling was still about as pleasant as taking a seat on a hot griddle and it took everything he could muster just to keep his body from reacting on its own as the low surge of electricity shot through the interior of the hold. He had a pretty good idea of what Ryke wanted right about now, and it was exactly the same thing that he wanted. To not be here.

He fought against the sluggishness in his legs and stumbled forward a few steps, reaching his left hand out toward her as she climbed across the tops of the barrels in his direction. He couldn't stand straight, but he stretched out his hand as high as he could towards the greasemonkey as he stumbled about underneath the gap in the ceiling.

"Zz-zz-tt-ake... mm... zz-aaa-nnnnn-dd... kk... zz-aan-dd-dd-rra..."

The words came out with stuttered breaths between clenched teeth, but if she reached out and touched his hand... or tried to grab him by it... or even was reckless enough to jump off of those barrels out at him, she'd suddenly feel herself seized and yanked upward like she'd just been snagged by fishing line -- once again a white shape like a cloud of steam would burst out of her hand or wherever it was that she'd touched him with and she'd find herself in the grip of a lupine apparition; the jaws locked down on her hand and not letting go while also not painful at all.

The wolf could carry 250 lbs and a Ryke was barely more than half that, soaking wet. Without any delay the specter would drag her by the arm right up through that hole in the deck like a wolf dragging a kill, and about as fast. The spectral wolf didn't need solid ground to tread on, and so it could pull her out through the opening in the deck towards the storm waiting up above; going at just enough of an angle that she would come out above the deck rather than straight out of the hole. Like before, it would release her once they got up above but Anson's estimates were complete guesswork right now and she would probably end up getting "dropped off" about a dozen feet above solid ground if she didn't shake herself loose of the wolf before then.

Of course, that didn't really do anything to improve his own situation. He needed a ride of his own, and so as soon as Ryke was clear of the hole and just as his knees gave out under him again, Anson lifted his right hand above his head and snapped his fingers. On call, a wolf burst forth for him as well with his fingers hooked into the wolf's jaw like it was a hand-hold, and up he went as well... though quite a bit slower than Ryke's ascent had been. Himself, with his armor and soaked through as he was, was over 200 lbs and considerably closer to the limit of what the wolf would be able to carry.

show spoilerhide spoiler[Minor] Wolf Bite

Cost: 20%

Effect: An attack that creates a spectral wolf at the point of impact which immediately latches its jaws onto the target and applies a pulling force for 3 posts. The wolf deals no damage, and will always pull in the same direction once created (usually down and back).

Benefit: Each wolf has an effective weight of 100 lbs if hanging on a target. The wolf can drag up to 250 lbs if no resistance is applied.

Limitation: The wolf does not have a material form but can be destroyed by dedicated attack (a strong kick, a sword slash done as more than a flick of the wrist, or any damaging ability that isn't merely including them in an area of effect unless that area is specifically intended for wolves and nothing else).

Benefit: The user can dismiss wolves as a free action.

[Major] Overwhelm (Passive)

Effect: Reduces the activation cost of Wolf Bite to 10% spirit energy per spectral wolf and allows the specters to pull while treading on air.

Once the water stopped licking at his feet, he was finally able to take a calm breath again and look around to see ... legs flailing around in the air.
