The aelf sure liked to look at him. If the slime could blush, it would be doing so now. It was kind of embarrassing to have another creature stare so intimately at him. What was going through the humanoids mind was definitely not what was filtering through the nuclei of the slime. The aelf's disposition and mannerisms were different, but not enough for the slime to truly take notice. Instead the slime removed the sunglasses it had been wearing and fidgeted cleaning them. Anything to dissuade the gaze now on him.

This posed a minor problem. The slime had expected to bond over drinks, cheat the aelf into signing up and be done with it. Looking at the soupy wine soaked paper now, it seemed that deception was not going to work. Standing up slowly, V would move to look out over the balcony, dragging the keg along behind him with one arm while the other carried his glass with him. It was all supposed to be dramatic like. With a wave, the slime would motion the aelf over. With five fingers.

Regardless of if his soon to be partner came over V would don his sunglasses again and st the keg down, it's contents sloshing slowly. The slime would wait until he was sure Cypher was looking at him before beginning his pantomime. First the slime moved one of his hands back and forth as if it were riding on something, then he would move his arm up and down, making large waves stretching his membrane. The slime then pointed to himself with a thumb and repeated the hand motion, his arm structure returning to normal. V finished by pointing to Cypher and making the had motion a final time.

It was pretty straightforward, at least the slime thought so, as it started to 'drink' from the bottle it had filled previously. Straightening itself, it was clear that the slime could take on nearly and form it wanted and the clothing stood out a bit more against the black mass and the sky. It wasn't quite heroic or romantic, but V looked like quite the picturesque fool as he gave a big thumbs up to the aelf.

The beast finally gotten the interest from another, and from all the various grades of beasts, demons, angels, or even gods, in the world it just had to be a cat of all things. Lifting his ears as the feline female asked him a question of the form of speech that he much rather prefer, the oversized canine bares his teeth as he raises his head only to speak in a deep rumbling voice, "If you prefer verbal speech, I am open to speak the 'common-tongue' of men."

Remaining firmly in place where he sat, the creature slowly turns his head to face the one who is speaking with him. As his sight becomes fixed on her, the emerald color of his irises briefly and faintly glow a more vibrant shade of the color.

"Apparently, I must have missed you as I came in... As you already know, the common folk, or humans, never seem to get over seeing things that they may find themselves seeing only once in a lifetime." the wolf continued, seeing and noting his own mistake as he entered the establishment. Again, out of all the species, this particular race, opposite of his own, in so-to-speak, seems to take more of a notice. No. You don't know me, and I definitely don't know you, yet I was going to try and be coy by remaining silent to see how much and also to see how far it can get me. Yet, over two millennia of living, you do get into the habit of developing 'manners.'" Managing to smile at the young feline with his protruding canines making breaks across the friendly expression, he introduces himself, "I am one they call Xero and I am the gmork, and you are...?"

"Excellent! Your shameless reputation seems to have been an understatement, Miss Kae." Fasumbra chuckled to himself, reaching into his breast pocket and producing a plastic card that he placed on the bar beside him; a legally distinct Maestrocarde. Fas flicked it down the bar at her casually, making the faintest of clinks as it hit her empty glass and stopped. He then returned his attention to Akshaya.

"I see. Well, then..." Fas paused for a moment, reaching to his breast pocket once again and withdrawing a small metal case. He flicked it open smoothly, and withdrew from it a business card, which he placed on the bar next to the giant woman. His name was printed across the center, Fasumbra Langardo, along with Destructive Forces Operating Company in the top right. A universal telephone number was in the top left, as well as a Portal Key ID for teleportation. All of this was neatly debossed in Silian Rail font, on the bone colored card's surface.

"Take my card, have her give me a call. Unless of course, you and your sister would like to visit the office instead and take care of this in person. I assure you I will do my best to make sure the two of you leave satisfied." Fasumbra gave her a bright smile, and another friendly pat on an arm.

"Well, it was a pleasure meeting the two of you. I hope we can continue to do business in the future. Unfortunately, I have a few more appointments to keep today, so I'm afraid I'll have to be going. Unless either of you have something else to dicuss?"

"Here, in the Crimson Hawk, or at least this part of Gaia, you may find that people are looking at you less in curiosity, and more in wonder-- 'is this person here to watch, or to fight?' Also, from the distance, you could be mistaken for a regular competitor."

She pursed her lips momentarily, slightly shifting her train of thought. "I'm not that old, but I know others who are. I'm D' Aire, president of The Blazestar Empire, and the main financier of the Heaven or Hell tournament." She lifted a hand to indicate some of the streamers and banners that the wolf may have missed, many visual advertisers to the upcoming spectacle.

"I have other titles that aren't too relevant here, but what is a 'gmork?' "

Izette stared off into the distance as the events played through her mind. It happened so quickly as she danced toe to toe with an Elder God. He matched every move that he did, hell he even got a few hits in on her with the use of her own knives. Actually, she was pretty sure she gained a stab wound on her side.

"Izz? Hey! Izz? Are you okay?"

However, it wasn’t for her cousin’s constant yelling in her face that she was pulled back into the shop, mentality that is. Blinking a couple of times she looked around to see that she was surrounded by not only Jake but Ryke and Connor too. It was surprising cause she honestly thought that maybe she was here all by herself.

“Oh, hi Jake.” With a shaking hand the punker lifted her smoke from her lips and exhaled. It was a nice to have the feeling of cigarette smoke dance along her lungs. However, the chorus of peacefulness quickly broke into a chorus of Ryke’s screeching in a panicked state.

”Oh sweet ******** christmas-that’s not his head? DID YOU GUYS HAVE AN ARGUMENT?”

Izzy laughed slightly as she peered inside the box slightly, from a quick glance she wouldn’t be surprised if someone thought it was Melech. Both of these assholes had white hair and similar features. However, if one were to actually pull the head out they would quickly discover that was not the case. They had different eyes, different smiles, and they even bled differently.

”Wait - where’s your eyepatch?? Izzy - what did you do?”

“Just taking care of some unfinished business.” The punker took another drag of her cigarette before wincing slightly before clenching her left side before pulling her hand away. It was soaked with the red blood which resembled her own. Clearly, the adrenaline was beginning to wear off. Many people knew Izette for taking her beatings, and normally she did pretty well considering that she was known to walk away easily before the injuries really kicked in. However, these injuries were setting in rather quickly. Guess that’s what happens when there is woo-woo magic involved.

“Hang on...wait, wait, wait, Mel? Who is Mel?”

“…really? I thought I introduced you two.”

“….Hehehehe. Why don’t you introduce me, Izette?” A new male voice entered the sound of the shop that neither Jake, Ryke, or Connor had heard before. And what was more startling as it seemed to come from the garbage bag with matching rustling as well. However, it only seemed to continue to laugh as colour quickly began to drain from Izette’s face.

It wasn’t Melech.

This was someone new.

Someone that the punker thought she had taken care of.

However, without any hesitation, Izette grabbed the bag by the knot and began to repeatedly swing the bag against the counter.

“SHUT. THE. ********. UP.” With every word, the bag made contact with the tool bench causing more blood to splatter. It was a black ichor mixed with the sound of mush forming with every crack against the counter. The punker even let out a loud audible scream as she continued to beat the bag int the top. She didn’t care that the were liquid splattering everywhere. Nor did she even consider that it might get on her friends.

She just wanted the laughing to stop.

By whatever means necessary.

Fasumbra continued to speak, but Kae had stopped listening. She stared at the empty glassware in a daze, still trying to come to grips with the fact that she had so abruptly had the tables turned on her. It was a strange feeling to a woman used to getting her way, to others being putty in her hands to manipulate towards some desired goal. The taste of blackmail sat bitterly in her mouth to replace the bite of vermouth, and the back of her throat teased rising bile at the idea that all of her resistance might be so easily erased by... whatever that had been.

Mind control? It couldn't simply be that - the Rose would have rapidly, and aggressively countered any sort of mental invasion. Likewise, any mere suggestion would have likely been rebuffed by her genuine anger at the man for snubbing her. This power was entirely unlike anything she had ever experienced, and the violation left her feeling sick and worried. Kae was... afraid.

The clink of plastic against empty glassware stirred her slightly from the introspective reverie, but she gave the card the same blank, thousand-yard-stare, taking several long moments to fully comprehend what it was she was looking at. Hesitantly, expecting it to suddenly burst out in mocking laughter or somesuch, the Helvetian flipped it between her fingers, frowning at it. The style of it was unusual, but its purpose was fairly evident.

Carte blanche. It should have excited her... the way it had when he had first let it purr from between sophisticated lips. She had considered it the proper reparation for being so brusquely corralled here. Instead, it was a hollow consolation to just another layer of indignity heaped upon her. Part of her wanted to throw it back at him out of spite... but perhaps...

She laid it back down on the table, and returned to staring out through the polarized glass, watching the bustle of guests arriving at the hotel. It was only when Fasumbra had departed... and hopefully Akshaya with him, that she stirred. Payment of the tab was almost mechanical, and she spared little attention to the pair of furred friends camping out near the concierge as she booked a suite on the upper floors... all for herself. If the man was going to pave her way to stardom on a highway of gold, then she was going to milk that ******** dry. Several thousand per night?

Perfect.

+---------------------+

Elevators were a luxury that had slowly grown on the dimensional outcast, as the parasite progressively seemed to leech away more and more of her ability to 'shortcut' normal hassles like stairs. Fortunately, they were also pretty darn fast in this luxurious hotel, which meant little time dawdling... and musing about the still very awful predicament that draped its shadowy influence over her shoulders. For now... it would be nice to relax for a bit, removed from the stress of the lobby and made all the sweeter on someone else's dime. Then maybe she would see about registering for this tournament.

The entrance to the suite was easy to find, being one of only four taking up the entirety of that floor. Kae had opted for something in the eastern theme, hoping that the famed tranquility of the Orient would be captured for her in microcosm, easing her rest. She wasn't disappointed.

The keycard granted access to the sliding door, and she coolly took the single step down onto the bamboo hardwood flooring, sighing softly as she let the parasite disentangle itself for a bit, unweaving her dress into a less complex, more natural growth across her body. Sharp blue eyes surveyed the suite, and marveled at both its opulence, and also its seamless integration of traditional comforts and technological marvels.

A well tended rock garden, lit from overhead, dominated a lowered area replete with lounging cushions and mats on recessed benches along the sides. Near at hand was a fully functioning and fully stocked autobar, with a small ordering kiosk - a la carte, and expensive, no doubt. A partial kitchen lay off to the left, and behind rice papered sliding walls lay the multiple bedrooms... and no doubt the onsen she was already daydreaming about.

She pushed aside the meagre barrier, unable to prevent a subtle smirk from tugging at the corners of her mouth. The hotel staff had truly thought of everything. A stack of soft towels lay ready by the edge of the imitation mineral pool, that had no doubt been filled with thousands of dollars worth of San Pellegrino. And next to it, two small squares of fabric.

The shapely girl plucked them from the stone, shaking them open from their neat folds. Two triangles of white stretchy nylon, one corner of which was tastefully engrammed with a stylized 'C.H.', greeted her. Simple... but very thoughtful of them. The second piece revealed the matching, saucy bottoms, which brought a wry smile. Hot water disagreed strongly with the Rose, and wearing actual clothing, however scarce, would be a refreshing change of pace.

She set them back down for the moment to appreciate the various other features of the partition. A massage table with shelves of products waiting at the ready, several comfortable varnished seats for relaxation, a calming fountain... it really had it all. Minus the massage attendant. Perhaps that would have to be specifically ordered.

For now, she would play with the digital temperature gauge... and get this onsen nice and steamy.

Her previous visit to the famed establishment played like a ghostly echo over the present. She had been asked by the Velis, people who were genuinely interested in her friendship without the pretense of expecting certain benefits in return, to assist in a matter concerning both Celeste (who had found herself in a troubling situation) and her eldest daughter. Such a request involved active participation in the notorious Heaven or Hell fighting tournament (the Crimson Hawk Hotel being an annual sponsor and offering lodging for participants and spectators alike) alongside the couple and another friend of theirs. Even though a win wasn’t in the cards for them, fortune saw to the girls’ release from the unscrupulous contract that had been looming over her head and limiting her freedom outside of the tournament.

The opening ceremonies had proven eventful, after being confronted by one of Lilith’s goons, her best and brightest no less. Most of her downtime had been split between avoiding him as much as was humanly possible - difficult considering his position as a benefactor that year - or locked in arguments and bargaining with the Red Witch herself.

After a few moments reliving the past, Rai cleared the haze and re-focused her mind as the line in front of her moved closer to the check-in desk.

Returning to this place had never been particularly high on her list of priorities but alas, she was here on rumors of Lilith’s potential appearance. As a person of status who donated towards the event’s running costs or to the hotel for team suites, her presence here would be welcome but not necessarily required. Whether or not she would show this year remained to be seen. Just whispers exchanged through the network all seemed to suggest that she would. So, in addition to verifying the legitimacy of these whispers, she would also be lending her talents and aid to a certain grim sorcerer who had plans and reasons of his own for being here. They had not yet discussed the finer details of what those plans were but she had no concern and assumed he would fill her in on a need-to-know basis. Was she curious? Oh yes, very much so, but there was also some enjoyment in the mystery every time she watched his machinations unfold in ways she could not have predicted. He was a fascinating fellow. Their partnership was mutually beneficial, so Raien had no reserves about placing her faith in his abilities to set the stage and pull the strings in such a way that often toed the line of what could be considered morally acceptable, but somehow never compromised their operation.

Finally, the line cleared. She stepped up the counter and set her bags down on the floor. The clerk acknowledged her with an exaggerated smile and a noticeable twitch in her eye from a combined effort of over caffeination and sleep deprivation. “Good afternoon, Miss. How can I help you?”

“Yes, I’m here to check in. It should be a suite, reserved for a Hastus. I’m his assistant.”

The blonde woman behind the desk said nothing and went right to typing away at a frenzied pace, looking up the information provided. “Are you Ms. Martell?” Raien was prepared to show the clerk some identification, a little something she had crafted near the beginning of her rather unorthodox partnership. Bespelling the hotel staff would have likely set off alarms, or it was just as expected that they were all warded against magical tampering. “Yes Ma’am.”

Cora, according to the name tag pinned to her leppel, only lifted her eyes from the computer screen for a moment to acknowledge the response and take in Raien’s - or Ms. Martell’s - appearance briefly. The mage had certainly made no small effort in pulling this entire charade together. Her wild, earthy brown mane had been carefully pinned back into an elegantly braided coif that hung low against the back of her neck. A pair of thin, but large and circular framed in a light color were perched on the bridge of her nose. Of course, with the new name came an appropriate appearance. While even a thorough disguise would mean little to the Witch herself if she indeed was in attendance but it was enough for the mundane and those with no knowledge of her otherwise. The dress was designed with an overcoat piece, black in color with the bust and chest cut almost like a pinafore - revealing the blue dress beneath - with full sleeves and a buttoned front. It stopped several inches before the hem of the dress, itself which fell above the knee. The simple, black tights and high-heeled shoes accentuated her already long legs and further alluded to a sense of confidence and professionalism.

It seemed a name and once-over were perfectly sufficient in the wake of proper identification. Security was lax. She made a mental note The blonde woman - Cora (Raien was reminded of her name again when she made eye contact) - brandished a set of room keys. She handed them over with a too-wide smile that implied she was tired of waiting on entitled guests and ready for her break where she could hide away from the world long enough to down her tenth cup of coffee. “Here you are Ms. Martell. Do enjoy your stay!”

Raien smiled in return, uttered a thank you before turning to retrieve her belongings. A tall gentleman in uniform gathered the bags in hand before she could and offered her a wide open-lipped smile. “Please, allow me to see you to your room.”

Although she was not one to normally enjoy being waited on hand and foot like such, she fought the protest and upheld her image. “Such excellent service you provide. Thank you both very much.” Compliments were paid to both members of the hotel staff, and Rai followed after the man with her bags towards the elevators.

While she would have much preferred to ride up alone, she remained tight-lipped and politely silent during the climb to the fourth floor. Much was the same while being lead down the long corridor after exiting the elevator. A few patrons were seen roaming the halls, suggesting that they would not be alone in this wing of the hotel, but it was considerably quiet. Absolute privacy would be difficult to come by in a largely popular establishment such as this, but as long as all neighboring guests were of the respectful variety, then it would suffice. The man’s voice cutting into her thoughts made her realize she had all but tuned him out until they stopped in front of a door at the end of a corridor. ”Here were are, Ma’am. I hope you enjoy your stay, please inform staff if there is anything additional we can do for you.”

”Yes. Thank you.” Rai produced several pieces of platinum without prompt and offered it to him. He accepted the tip readily and trotted off towards the elevators once more. The silence that left in his wake was merciful bliss and she wasted no time getting herself and her belongings into the room itself.

"Interesting!" The wolf answered, his eyes once again glowing from either excitement or with great interest. And the manner in which he answered, his lips reeled firmly back against his gums, revealing his jagged canines and his voice rumbled with a deep growl.

Peering up and about at all the advertisements that are all on display to influence those who may wish to test their mettle against others like themselves. His head looks off to the left and then to the right only to come about to return his sight upon the female when she continues on only to end her statement about herself of her other titles with a question about him.

"Not a surprise that you have not heard of a gmork for we are too few to even be considered to be in existence." Xero answered, his deep voice not even hinting a sign of sadness or regret of being part of a race that is slowly disappearing. "Yet, to sum it up to you in a way that I can be understood, gmorks are like werewolves or worgens or whatever those mutts call themselves now a days. Now, we don't share their weaknesses like being slain by weapons or items made of silver though we can be slain... Mainly for our pelts or a common rumor of having mystical powers." The wolf grinned at the young feline again as his feline-like pupils of his eyes narrows at her own eyes. "Honestly, there are more to us than meets the eye, obviously. For one, being so old, yet only possessing the endurance of those just becoming adults."

Hoping that he answered the girl's question as simply as he could with an explanation or two to keep her from getting confused, the wolf shifts his gaze away only to ask about the banners and streamers on display,"Now D'Aire, what will it take to sign up to one of these tournaments you so proudly keep on display here?"

Leon sat in his room in a nearby desk using a good old paper and pencil, along with a calculator in hand. Leon was already in utter pain after his sprawl with Athan and now it was getting worse, other than a pain physically with the broken ribs, swollen right cheek and now with the recent math done to calculate the damage done to his ship, a blistering headache. While Leon made more than his fair share of money as a bar performer for local bar it wasn’t exactly something that would pay anywhere near that much. Leon attempted to rub the temples on the side of his head, though that certainly didn’t help grow out the frustration. He was starting to think that maybe trying to hit someone with a bloody spacecraft was actually a terrible idea, especially since it only seemed to make the fight tougher than it actually was (Not like he attempted to avoid the fight in the first place after all.) He lost his focus, and now it shown in what would be a major deficit to his funding. In frustration he threw the calculator he had in his hand out of the window and snarled. This wasn’t going to get him anywhere. He wasn’t going to pay for it, it would seem his only option was the best one.

He needed to steal available parts.

But around here, where would he find a mark?

Thinking for later sadly, and currently he wasn’t going to be gathering any good ideas in utter rage, he needed time to think he and he wasn’t going to do that being cooped up in this room, He lifted himself up from the chair and immediately winced. The quick shot up from his seated position seemed to have rattled his ribcage a bit. He took a deep breath letting the pain subside before heading out of his room, and toward the hallway. Maybe a breath of fresh air, and looking about would do him some good.

It wasn’t often that Connor was frozen by indecision, but today was one of those days. He was pulled by Voss whose laughter joined in with the crazy Izzy was trying to beat out of her talking head. He was pulled in another direction by the sudden hunger of the parasite reacting to the raw emotion flooding the room, the scent of blood and the otherness he could feel from that head.

“...ah, s**t...”

And finally he was yanked back by a sense of deja vu so strong he physically took a step back. Melech walked past and Connor could only stare. The yellow of his eyes writhed with the black of the parasite while his skin itched to be split so it could feed on this thing that so disturbed him. It wasn’t that Melech was inhuman; Connor himself was far from normal and had seen stranger. It was the feeling that Melech’s mere presence sparked an internal war within him that was rarely a good sign.

The fiend was familiar in a way both amicable (Had they been friends, once?) and hostile (Not what he seems! Intruder, rip and tear…) and it made Connor shudder as he heaved on the metaphysical chains keeping his passengers at bay.

“Connor.”

Time quite literally stopped.

His mind retreated to the Bleed, to the dreamscape of a dead goddess and a sea of tears within which floated so many worlds, so many lives...and not a one knew this Devil, but somehow he knew Connor. The familiarity he had with Izzy and Ryke and even Jake as he stepped up and relieved Izzy of blade and bag spoke volumes. This must be the ‘Mel’ Zandra had mentioned, the devil was intimate in a subtle way with Izzy that only made too much sense to Connor.

It may have made sense, but nothing else about this was.

The miasma dissipated even as the parasite thrummed along Connor’s spine and Voss turned his eye on Melech, exuding a pressure everyone would be able to feel. Connor approached Mel calmly, but the Devil would be able to see the radiating power he left in his wake. For the sake of his friends Connor didn’t allow a visible display but for this stranger he made it quite clear. He reached out to Jake and gently removed the bloody wrench from his grasp. Piss-yellow eyes locked on Melech.

He came down from a leaping charge, landing before an opponent stunned by the sudden and seemingly suicidal charge. It was the same every time, just as it had been in his own country, it seemed even the Chinese and Koreans were surprised by it. Just how Tenro liked it. He landed ten feet from the opponent, a smile born of battlejoy lit his face darkly as he brought the sword down, continuing the momentum. Arms extended, bringing the long blade of his Kubikiri Nodachi down on the neck of the poor sod who happened to be in front of him.

Blood sprayed the air, raining from the great cut into the neck.

“Watashi ni anata no atama o ataete kurete arigatō!” He shouted, and he meant his gratitude. Another head to add to his achievements, and by the looks of it, the fellow might have been somewhat important. He would find out eventually, he supposed. He would advance in rank and achievement regardless, and do his family proud. Green eyes looked about as the warriors of Satsuma pushed into the hole he made, widening it more, spears slashing into the enemy with an almost beautiful rhythm. Today was a good day.

His attention returned from the momentary lull, that half mad smile touching his face even still. The allied forces had broken the gates on the third day of battle, but were being held back. An enemy shear came in, and he swatted it aside with the flat of his sword, a spear from a soldier standing next to hem found it tip buried in the throat of the attacker. He made a sharp bark of a laugh. That had been close, better pay attention or they might wind up taking his head.

It was now the fifth day of battle, and the enemy was relentless in trying to breach the walls. Giving the state of affairs they would retreat back before making a final charge to push into the fortifications. “Sore wa masani jikan.” He said in expectation. The battle was just about to reach its climax. He was looking forward to it.
