Trapdoor Spider Wrote:
It was as Ferris thought-- Rou hadn't even ventured to look up once during her observation, save for when she'd gauged the distance to Latent some minutes ago. It was time enough for her Magelight to lose it's luster, so she drew the rune, and threw another. Her face soured, quickly growing bored by waiting.
"Be careful, they said. It'll be super effective, they said," she grumbled softly, shifting her position in the tree.
Rou had chosen a spot about 8-9 feet in the air, high enough off the ground, but not so high to hurt herself getting down. The forest itself was massive, and trees grew to gargantuan heights, thick with leaves and branches and all sorts that made even the canopy untouchable to someone like Rou.
He would have had her, if the trees were but that much shorter.
His descent, as quiet as he might try to be, were not without the thick tangle of albeit small branches and leaves, which had to bend for him to make his way through. Brushing noises alerted her on a windless night, and Rou snapped around with eyes wide, the role of surprise reversed on her.
"******] she yelled, ungracefully, as she nearly fell out of the tree backward, if not for her hand pulling on a branch to right herself. It snapped after being pulled too far, but was enough for Rou to bring her feet beneath her, landing on the leather soles of her boots in the dirt, a slight sting to her ankles. She was glad she hadn't been stupid enough to wear heels in the forest stage.
With half a step back near the tree's base, into the packed path of the road, Rou quickly turned over her right hand, and the energies flickered above her palm into a fireball about the size of a baseball. She held it there, however, casting a brief glance back up into the height, at Ferris toting his spear that glinted briefly in the cast of the Magelight.
Rou whistled, in lieu of a relieved sigh. "You almost had me there, flyboy!" she laughed with a lopsided smile, giving the ball of fire in her hand a small, idling toss-- up, then down. Flying had always been a tricky thing in Heaven or Hell, banned in previous years that Rou hadn't even considered that it might've evolved with the times. She wouldn't be making that mistake again; better to learn in the early rounds, while the gettin' was good.
Her yellow eyes shifted to the spear in his hand, before drawing her tongue slowly across her bottom lip. "Hope you brought a rubber for that thing," she teased, with that wide cheshire smile of hers, and took another two steps back, well into the road. It was the clearest area in their vicinity, the least amount of canopy above and trunks in the way, for the stretch of road. The Magelight cast a long shadow in front of her, partway through it's life. **"But you should know, I like 'em big. I bet you're a grower, though, aren't you?"** she drawled in a honeyed voice, before leaning back, and pitching the fireball to the tree Ferris hovered beneath.
It caught quickly, for the bark up the trunk was easy fuel on the dry night, but it nonetheless would take a good ten seconds or more for it to eat all the way up to the top, not in the immediacy to harm Ferris beyond maybe some smoke in his eyes, for the moment. Now with a free hand, Rou was quick to draw 2 runes in the air, quicker than she could write her signature for the flow of her finger.

Holding, signified by it's emptiness. The easiest of all the runes, the collection rune, Telekinesis. "Chain." With her command, the red jewel on the back of her silver bracer glowed a soft red, and from within it's depths opened the small portal of holding to withdraw the requested item. Rou grabbed it with her left hand, the cuff of her wrist shackle open, and she slapped it onto her right wrist, which sealed with a resounding click.

Holding: Ability to open the path to Sitra Ahkra, to deposit or withdraw items from the Gem of Holding on her bracer.
Telekinesis: Ability to pull items closer to Rou-- the larger the object, the more focus and time it takes. This must be an item that is soulbound to Rou, such as her equipment, or an item from the arena that she has handled for more than 5 seconds.

With the 18-inch length of chain in her right hand, she held it at bay, ready for the inevitable charge down. Her right foot shifted behind her, dragging in the dirt, prepared.
"Why don't you come down here, big guy?" she taunted, nearly purring. Her voice was so facetiously sweet, it was almost infuriating. **"We'll have a real swell party."** Rou cackled beneath her breath, low and humored. The more she breathed in this woodland air, felt the pounding of her heart in her chest, the smell of battle returned to her.
It was intoxicating.
