Gustave Aodhart: Staccato of Steel 1pm, The Ruined Studio.
Maximos was successfully deflected by Gustave's guard and set to work moving into his next strike with little hesitation, though something seemed off about his movements to Gustave. Maybe it was that he was out of practice, or maybe he had some sort of internal conflict that stalled his thoughts for just the smallest fractions of a second. In either case, this presented Gustave no advantage so he put it to the back of his mind with the rest of the excess.
Now was the moment, a decisive clash of steel on steel that would shape the coming moments. If Gustave made the wrong choice on this move he was finished. Maybe not on the next move, maybe not even on the one coming after that, but he saw a potential end in this mix.
Maximos was right in thinking that Gustave would try to rush him down here. He presented a perfect opportunity to do so. It was true that Max was pretty well protected from the front against Gustave's sword, but Gustave was used to fighting opponent in full armor from head to toe. This was not his first rodeo, and so he set to work rushing Max down with the first lunging step on his left. In this process, Max's short edge cut was already coming from above, and Gustave was turning his left arm to bring his falchion back up to deal with it.
The cut would come down, and Gustave would catch it against the clip at the tip of his sword, just as he had done with the thrust before, but this time Maximos' own force of movement would assist Gustave in conrolling the trajectory of Max's cut. The blade would follow the contour of the concaved clip and glance off to Gustave's right slightly. Gustave, moving now to bring his right foot up and cross in front of his left, would already be lifting his right hand to guard his face from the outside line to prevent Max from simply push-cutting his ear off.
The end goal here was to get his right foot up and sidelong to Max's lead foot on the right side. The end position of his sword would be to turn his left hand and bend at the wrist. Then, keeping his arm in mostly the same position as it had been when parrying Max's strike, he would turn his forearm to bring a diagonal cut from the upper left to the bottom right, intersecting Maximos' head. The hope was that Max would let go of his sword with his armored hand to guard his head, which Gustave would answer by throwing a jab from his right hand into the gap that would be left in Max's guard by the movement of his arm.
