In the parking lot outside the forge, Rayner stood frozen half way out of his truck, staring at the rooftop, face frozen in an expression 2 parts '*I'm getting too old for this s**t*' and one part '[********]'. The scarred man squinted, as if willing it to vanish, like it being a vivid hallucination would somehow be a good thing, finding himself fidgeting nervously when it did not, digging into his pockets as he let the occasional fat raindrop smack him on the head, door closing behind him as he took out a pack of cigs and a lighter, holding it up to his face as he set the tip glowing-
And immediately watched the buffeting winds snuff it.
Not to be deterred, he tried it again, and a third time, to no avail, before the man stuffed it all back in his pocket, cursing wildly under his breath as he yanked his car door back open, hovering about to get back inside taking a long, deeeeeeep breath, and pulled a little flask out from between the front seats before slamming the door.
If he was going into a building with a giant a** goddamned lizard squatting on the roof, he was damned well gonna have something go his way first. After taking a drink entirely too long to be called a sip for courage, he started storming toward the building, dedicatedly NOT looking at the crowing bag of scales on the roof, fiddling with his lighter still as he stormed in, not because he was nervous or twitchy or anything, just DEFINITELY because he liked to play with the thing, wondering who the hell had written the rule that every time he went to a place of metal casting there would have to be a giant flipping clawed monster waiting for him. Last time this nonsense had happened, he'd gotten his most prominent facial scars. The long overcoat whipped around his legs, battering at the backs of his knees and thighs, making for a nice distraction- and he even held one arm way up, flipping the bird skyward without looking as he neared the front doors, taking a deep breath as he dragged one open against the winds, walking into the forge and letting it slam behind him, the echoing click of it sealing following a few moments after, muffling the howling of the wind outside.
He looked up for a moment, half expecting the roof to cave in on his head under the weight he couldn't have possibly imagined it had been built with in mind- but after a few moments, he decided it must have been after all.
Well. Not like it was the least likely ******** thing to happen around these parts, he supposed.
The oppressive heat slowly settling in, the room as a whole rather warm, and the rhythmic echoing blows of the mechanical hammers at the other end of the room were actually comforting, in comparison, and after a moment he strolled his way in, peeling the large coat off one shoulder, then the other, half-sitting onto an anvil as he shook it out and started rolling the thing up, looking around the room as he dug that lighter out again, finally lighting his smoke and taking one long, deep breath as he looked around the room to make sure there wouldn't be anymore overgrown reptiles in here.
