'You see? He draws! Cut him down where he stands!'
The old battlefield had its share of restless spirits, bitter both from having their lives cut short at the hands of an unknown enemy and from having their own names forgotten among the many others that fell beside them. They spoke of the unseen blade, of the false friend, and of the merciless foe. They spoke of so many things that the Fury grew impatient with the ceaseless prattle of dead men and ached for anything that it could break apart with this boy's two hands so that it could replace what whining with the satisfying crunch of flesh and bone and steel.
Ryugi Kazamaru Wrote:> "I'm Rance Blackblade of Smash and Sass! > > And by the time I'm done, you'll be right back up that mountain of yours!"
It took a moment for him to wrench free the tightly clenched jaw of the Fury to break that heroic smile long enough to answer the stranger. "...Anson Brent, of the Mountain..."
'Enough enough enough enough enough! JUST KILL HIM ALREADY!'
"...which will be coming down on you!"
The masked man took a step forward toward that outstretched sword, his own weapon held out from his chest horizontally with his right hand on the hilt and his left a third of the way up the scabbard. With his sword outstretched like that Rance threatened a significant amount of distance, but he didn't control it. If the Sass man lunged or took a swing with the blade Anson would tilt his own weapon to angle the thrust away and step in; if Rance didn't do so first, then the man from Mountain would be the one to take the first lunge: thrusting his sheathed sword about halfway down the length of Rance's blade on the outside edge, and then titling it over the top of the sword to swing the tip of his sheathed blade over the top of Rance's right arm while applying pressure to the top and outside edge of the sword to push it slightly across his body and drive the front edge into the catch of the crossguard of Anson's own blade.
There was definitely too much distance between them for this to have ever caught Rance with his own weapon, the swords were pretty much right alongside one another at this point and there was still the full length of Rance's sword arm between the mercenary and his opponent... but that's why Anson had an extra 3 feet of reach.
As soon as he finished stepping in alongside the outstretched sword Anson's left hand snapped outward, using the length of the hand-and-a-half sword as a guiding rail as he slammed the wooden scabbard outward like a reverse iaijutsu strike aiming to smash the reinforced tip into Rance's lower lip.
